Im sure for some people these dubs holds precious childhood memories. To be honest I like the DiC voices, but some of them were misscast - Luna. The censorship and americanization was due to old conservative times. Some people like the original dic ost which I find horribly cheap, but once again nostalgia is very powerful. Cloverway though was indeed rushed and Usagi voice reminds of me a 40 year old on heavy drugs. Then the inconsistencies with terms and attacks. All in all they are product of their time.

It is weird for me because if not for the DiC dub, I probably wouldn't have discovered the show at all. But I do remember the first time I compared how Luna sounded in the original to the dub and I was shocked. lol. Did they really need to make her sound like an old lady in the dub? And I feel the dub misrepresented the characters at times. Like over emphasizing that Rei gets annoyed with Usagi to the point they make it sound like she's just mad. Among other things...At the same time, those clips do bring back memories.

I used to be a lot angrier about the dub, because as a translation it was horrible, and I didn't (still don't) approve of the erasure of various characters' sexual orientation. But now I kind of appreciate it for what it was: Silly, occasionally charming, sometimes even GOOD, in a few cases better than the original version (namely, I thought "Carry On" was a better final battle song for the first season than "Moonlight Densetsu," and I thought Super Sailor Moon's "I still pity you" to Queen Nehellenia was SUPER BADASS), and otherwise, well, so bad it's incredible. The awful emoting, the slang, the inconsistency (poor Sailor Jupiter)! All such a beautiful mess. My childhood (or rather, my teenhood). *chef's kiss*

And thank God for Sailor Moon Says (the YT channel).
