I think the only season finale I feel strongly about is S. SuperS would've been one too but they fixed it with that arc at the beginning of Stars. (The way it ended on SuperS made the season almost pointless because it just returned to square one with Nehelenia in the mirror again lol she had neither been redeemed or defeated and was in the same situation as the beginning of the season. But again, the mini arc in Stars fixed it and as far as I'm concerned those are episodes of SuperS)

S you don't even get to see the fight. They just go into the black field thing and then you see Usagi return with baby Hotaru and apparently Pharaoh 90 was defeated. Hooray? XD
It's still a very good season but it was unfortunate that Saturn's appearance was kind of anti climatic after building up toward it for so long and then we don't even get to see the villain defeated as it was off screen.

DK arc ending pretty much nailed everything other than no Outers, I think it would be really hard to surpass it.

How do you think about Another Story's ending.

well yes the 90s anime S have so many flaws i didnt like the things like you said i think the last 2 episode they can use it for the battle between saturn and pharoh 90s than the battle between usagi and the outers
or the time with chibi usa returning home
and the all supposedly development well they only had screen time but later they cant battle or something like that, like in jupiter episode she wanted to defeat a monster she only did it in that episode later she cant even fight
well you can think in mercury episode she progress but she did the same thing only study and XD that was about the episode that the only thing she can do is study and was depressed about it so...
the only battle i like is maybe the 4 episodes dedicated to neherenia in the beginning of stars
and the senshi didn't upgrade to planet power XD maybe that's why they cant do much(?) only sailor moon and the outers
and hotaru awakening i dont know, didnt look so impresive to me like in crystal she awake with all her power XD like a evil queen XDD haha
that's why i like better the manga/crystal they have a story they even tell what is happening and why
here we only know she is the senshi of destruction ok, but didnt tell us a background like when she awake this time she did this and thats why they are afraid etc
and the holy grail i like better the manga reasons for appearing than 90s anime reasons

The problem is that even Usagi VS the Outers didn't work very well.

The writers really wanted to prove that Outers are right, so they blocked the Inner Four from the battleground and let Usagi become dumber than she usually was. But the Outers couldn't solve the problem on their own as well since this show is called Sailor Moon and its main theme is love. You cannot go too far.

So nothing is really resolved or convincing in many ppl's eyes. Usagi was wrong, Haruka and Michiru were wrong. But how they should work together and learning from each others was put aside.

Even in Stars it's no different, Usagi and Haruka&Michiru became even more extreme on their route.

I think they did that because ppl like the Outers being "lonewolf and different" so they didn't let the development go in and let them repeat themselves. But it's not really good for characterization.

DK arc ending really left a huge impact in my heart. Even many of those who piss off on SM have deep impression on it.

And nearly every time I watch it again, I would have to hold my tears.
I live in Brazil, and unfortunately SM isn't popular here as it is in the rest of South America. But a few years ago, some magical girl facebook page posted two videos of the inners' deaths dubbed, and they caught the attention of people REAL hard, including people who happened to like anime but never watched the show. Some people were unaware of what the inners' duty was, and didn't understand why Venus and Mars had put their life in the line for Sailor Moon, instead of all fighting together. They were like "wow, they r so dumb lol"

Yeah it would be a bit difficult to understand since Sailor Moon have to save the energy to fight Beryl/Metallia.

*The really lame monsters of the day that clashed with the “dark tone” at least SuperS it made sense for the monsters to be so dumb.

*The actual last episode just felt so...pointless like they knew they were committed to 38 episodes for S but ended up one episode short so they tacked on the ending

*The Outers are more powerful than standard Sailor Moon but she still has to finish the monsters off 99 percent of the time.

*Heart Crystals to find the talisman and then heart crystals to fuel the Messiah of Silence felt like a lame reach to keep the season’s gimmick attack.

The last three episodes of S are terrible, anticlimactic, and horribly unsatisfying.

The imbalanced way the episodes are divided up among Kaolinite and the Witches 5 will irk me to my grave.

The goofy, hyper-sexualized monsters of the day are tonally jarring and not exactly appropriate for the target audience (though I do like some of them)

The Heart Crystals are an uninspired device, and this season is the beginning of all the supporting characters completely disappearing. (Umino and Naru only show up once?! Yuuchirou only shows up once too, I believe. Probably the same goes for Rei's grandpa. Do Kenji and Shingo even show up in S? Motoki only appears a couple times max. No Ms. Haruna. No reformed Ayakashi Sisters. No returning VOTD from Classic or R. The Heart Crystal formula would have been fine if it were used to bring back all those characters, but nope!)

No new transformations or attacks for the Inners.

I like S overall, but it's a vastly overrated season, don't @ me.

Yeah Kaolinite gets 13 episodes, Eudial and Mimette get 9 and then the last 3 just get a single episode a piece. It was just weird and it bothered me even when I was 8

. Do Kenji and Shingo even show up in S?
Shingo appeared once to tell Usagi that Haruka was calling her. Pretty sure Kenji ceased to exist around the early Chibi Usa saga in R?

. No Ms. Haruna.
To be fair Usagi was in grade 9 now so Haruna wouldn’t have been her teacher anymore.

No new transformations or attacks for the Inners.
Which was funny because they were in the manga. They could have easily been given planet henshin sticks from Chibi Usa as a gift from Neo Queen Serenity or something.

Or at the very least new attacks. I can't be the only one who got sick of Burning Mandala and Sparkling Wide Pressure etc after a while. At least they start moonlighting their old attacks again after a while, but they had those attacks for their main move for 2.5 seasons. So crazy XD

I don't have too much problem with Witches Five. The other 3 showed their personality well enough while they could get maybe a few more screentime.

Overall the villains are not the main focus of this season, but the struggle of Inner/Outers.

Have you guys ever noticed how rehashed Sailor Moon is from beginning to end?
The R and R movie final battles are pretty much attempts to mimic the epicness of the one in Classic. Moving speeches, badass and motivational song playing, and everybody standing still leaning Sailor Moon their powers.
S started the "oh, new sailor soldiers, lets make the main heroines look downright incompetent to show how amazing these new ones are" formula. Then, two seasons after, Stars came and recycled it. Lame.
And the pattern that started in season 1 of villains cheating on one another was recycled in both S and Stars.

Yeah because it's really hard to surpass it. I think R movie has the best anime ending beside DK arc.

As for new character downplays others, I think the manga also does that so you can't blame the anime too much. I just think Haruka and Seiya got wayyy too much attention after that.

When I was making the Walkthrough of Another Story, I also used Moon Revenge for the Inner Five's battle VS the Opposite Senshi and Moonlight Densetsu for the final battle. It's just such a good way and the songs are so epic.

I like how they handled Saturn in S, and I think the last episodes are amazing. Sure the fight could've been better but lets be real, fights were never that great in Sailor Moon, animating was expensive in the 90s and especially for long running TV shows

Other than the fight and no transformation, I like everything they did to Hotaru.
