As French too, I think the official reason for Canal J not ordering the 3th season is probably because the licence was too expensive. The audience excuse is ridiculous, canal j is a satellite/cable channel with ridiculous ratings anyway. Actually I’m not even sure that ratings is calculated for them...
The “lesbian” issue could be a reason too. Even if France is largely progressive, Japanese animation has still very bad reputation from the 90’s where the country where living with the show “Club Dorothée” which was airing unadapted anime for young audience.... still this show is still one of the major reason than France is still the second country in the world selling so much manga and anime DVD... even if we don’t aired anymore anime on national tv...
To be fair France was also the second country in the world to air Sailor Moon so I’ll never blamed “Club Dorothée” for it...
But Sailor Moon S was largely censured, the lesbian thing was still here (like between Zoizite and Kunzite) but the dialogue were changed as much as they could and Haruka was given a male actor when she was in civil form even if they clearly let the fact that she was a girl. She was given also the name “Frederic” who can be used for a girl but also for a man...Actually it was the same actor than Mamoru who dubbed her in a civil form.. Which was horrible... because he has a very old and boring voice... The Supers season was also very difficult to follow because of the end of Club Dorothée only half of the season were actually aired on national TV ... the rest came long after on VHS, DVD... Stars got officially dubbed only 2 or 3 years ago and that was even worst than what they did in the 90’s...
What about Crystal, as I speak some French I wanted to watch some episodes to check the translation and the voices. All I found was episode 13 and it was edited, a whole scene was missing, censured for being sightly darker in tone, with Metalia tormenting Usagi.I know on blu ray and dvd it was untouched, but I watched tv rip online and I'm more interested in the tv presentation Did this happen in other episodes? Th only other bad change spotted was Mamoru is renamed to Endy. It was cute that they translated Usako to Mon lapin. But to rename a character only to rhyme the name with chéri (Endy-chéri) was lame.

You don't have a lot of censorship.
From memory. You had the scene when Chibiusa threatened Usagi with a pistol. Another when Koan lands and burns a human, as well as the charred body of the good sisters. And I believe a scene when Mamoru and Usagi are going to make love. And also the black lady kissing Mamoru.
Nothing really embarrassing.

----

As long as Toei Europe, will not have doubled season 3, there will be nothing in France. And currently, there is nothing. Confirmation via MP, of a person working on the french dubbing. The private message is a few days old.

1/ That's not really true, only the episode aired during days were lightely censured but they were re-airing them at the evening in "normal / uncut" version ;) Still nothing to compare with the numerous cuts in the 90's anime version.
2/ For Mamoru, I have no idea why they changed the name. Specially because they didn't change any excepted his... In the 1st Version of the manga published in France they renamed him "maNoru" ... one of the explanation given at this time was that "mamoru" sounds exactly like "ma morue", which is a kind of insult in French (être une morue = to be stupid, awfull)... But don't let me start about the translation quality of the first edition we got in France which was an INSULT for every Sailor Moon's french fans!

Well , i have seen just one episode as tv rip, not the whole thing. Translation was neat for the dvd. blu ray, the subtitles were very good quality as well.

Yes the Quality of the subs and subbing in general are 1000x better than in the 90’s. The second edition of the manga is also nearly perfect.

The French subtitles has a lot of mistakes. You already have a copy of French dubbing in the subtitles so not faithful (Endy-chéri). The corrections made by Kazé France, are false and finally the French dubbing was right.

We tell you that Usagi will become the new queen of this kingdom (episode 14 - French dubbing). At Kazé France, they put "Neo Queen Serenity" ... False.

From there, to say that it's perfect or not ... There are too many mistakes in it.

That sucks.

This happened in the UK with Steven Universe. They censored out anything LGBT,
Spoiler: show
especially that time when Pearl and Rose Quartz fused.
They did it because ' to make it as kid-friendly as possible.' :orly:
So the question is: why LGBT content isn't regarded as kid-friendly in the 1st place? Homosexual behaviors, for example, do exist among kids, so why they can't be depicted in kids' shows when they're already existing in the reality of kids?

It is kind a sad that in 2018 one of the first European country to license and distribute manga and anime, is still trying to target it towards too young age group.Because anyone 12 or older knows what gay is and should be aware of the fact this is nothing wrong. And I thought they were more progressive.

Sailor Moon is primarily targeted at kids by Toei, though. It has always been.

No, srason 3 which we are talking about was a late night anime, so they dont tArget to kids, at least not under 12 for sure. Old show was day time kids show, but Crystal had late night slot, which makes the tArget way older. By definition late night anime targets teens and older.

^ Yeah, Crystal is more oriented towards those former kids of the 90s, many, if not most, of whom are working wives, housewives, or moms these days. lol

But Toei is selling Crystal to foreign markets as a kids' show anyway.
no, foreign markets buy it as sy=uch, nobody tells a licenser to put a rating restriction, this is for them to decide. Toei sell a show, they might approve scripts and changes, but they can't tell them where and when to broadcast it.
