I've only seen a few DiC episodes and clips, but the senshi are all smoother and softer sounding and within range of each other. For someone who only saw a few DiC episodes, this was tough for me to follow:

:loltext: I guess this was posted back when Toei was pulling episodes the few times that they did. :P

If you think that's manipulated, here's the original: Sailor Moon Unnatural Phenomena Cassette Audio
Rei and Makoto clearly sound smoother, higher pitched, and less aggressive than Viz.
EDIT: Makoto is apparently not on that tape. Here's an example of DiC Mako, compare to the original videos I posted

Do you mean that they sound smoother, higher pitched, and less agressive *in* the Viz dub? Because Makoto (a.k.a. Lita) is not in that audio episode.

In the DiC dub.

I edited the post to add Mako's talent speech for you to compare with the Viz videos I posted earlier.

If we're talking about the dub, nope. We would be having the same conversations as right now, especially over the writing because some (not all) of FUNi's regular writers are terrible at their job and have been called out for it plenty of times, especially in more recent years.
Thus, my point.

Even if a different company handled the licensing and release of "Sailor Moon" in North America, people would still feel dissatisfied and complain.

If it is not the picture quality, it is the dub; or the new dub is not good and the old one is better and they should have done something that felt closer to the old dub... and the list goes on.

People will never be satisfied.

It's just SO MUCH EASIER to ignore valid criticisms of a crappy product if I dismiss it with a strawman argument that people will complain no matter what

Yes, I have to agree the new dub works a lot better with Crystal. The scrpts and direction are much better there. But Sailor Moon old show sound is a hell to work it. A sound director and friend of mine tried to make a fandub of the break up scene from R and it took him a lot of effort to separate the sound effects, voices and music from a show produced in mono and then converted to stereo. It is of course possible, just very hard. The movies dub sounds better and the mixing smoother as they have 5.1 sound
Viz has the master files for the episodes, so they don't need to go through all that.
You know, separate tracks for music, voices and SFX.

The movie dubs, from what I bothered to listen to, honestly doesn't sound any better than the series dub.

Yeah the fact that its an older show is the reason the dub sounds off but its not a good excuse. Funimation redubbed the Dragon Ball movie Curse of the Blood Rubies (1986 vs 2010) and it doesn't have that problem

and Sapphire, from what I'm understanding your friend isn't a paid professional. And if he is, he isn't being paid to do that. Viz's work shouldn't be comparable to someone doing it on the side as a fan project.
