We're getting a (Japanese) novelization of the Sailor Moon story ?!?

- Says her style is often called "somewhat dark and heavy" but this time she tried to capture the brightness of the original.
I'd like to see her keeping her style (hence making her own interpretation of the original story), rather than following the original story's. :)

Well, a book isn't an anime (something we know TOEI is bad at creating), so perhaps we'll get something decent.

I am tired and sick of the Dark Kingdom arc being adapted (like, again?) and would truly welcome something fresh and new like a sequel or original story.

It’s clear from the author’s statement that the novels will probably be a faithful adaptation of the Dark Kingdom arc in the manga. I’m not holding my breath that there will be expanded lore (aside from senshi x shitennou shipping ) considering she doesn’t seem much aware of the Sailor Moon series until getting the assignment.

I’m curious how she’s going to write in the suicide scenes considering this is meant to be a children’s book.

On the one hand, it might be interesting having someone who is new to the series give us their take on the series with fresh eyes...but since she does seem to say she wrote a faithful adaptation (and, to be fair, she may have been instructed to do so), I'm not sure that "freshness" will amount to much.

On the other hand, having a dedicated fan do the novels would have potentially meant a greater attention being paid to detail, an awareness of and desire to correct plot holes, and expanded lore and more character development. But, if absolute faithfulness is being mandated, then again having a fan in charge wouldn't make much difference.

There's really nothing we can do but wait for the first volume to come out next month and for those of us on here who can read Japanese report on it to those of us who can't.

I just hope we get new artwork if nothing else.

At worst it'll be a boring, straightforward novelization of the manga, but at best it may contain interesting new scenes and details like the La Reconquista novel had.
It still frustrates me that only La Reconquista got a novelization. They could have easily done that for the rest of the musicals. But, no! God forbid they ever be consistent with something concerning this franchise.

They haven't been consistent ever since the days of the 90s anime, e.g. the non-existent Stars movie, the missing routine anime publications for Stars, etc., hence that's nothing new at all, but a pretty consistent (!) decades-long tradition of the franchise. lol

I hope it won't be just the manga in the form a novel. If we're getting yet another adaptation of the Dark Kingdom I'd prefer some new content. Like more development for the inners and their friendship, more "screen" time for the Shittenou and Beryl, richer backstory for the Moon Kingdom...Just no SenshixShittenou please. Anything but this.

I have the feeling this might just be the Dark Kingdom arc.

CCS Novels were released recently.

There were 2 novels for Clow
2 noels for Sakura
and 2 novels for Clear Card

Hopefully if they sell well they will go right through to the end...

There's no question that the three novels we're getting are based on the Dark Kingdom arc. Whether we get novelizations based on the other arcs will likely depend on how well the novels sell. Given that Miyoko seems to have read the whole manga and not just the Dark Kingdom arc, I'm hoping she had the awareness to make her novelizations of the Dark Kingdom arc feel more cohesive with the rest of the manga by including things like the Outers (even if they don't appear in the present action) or references to the Galaxy Cauldron.

Disappointed but not surprised they're reusing artwork. Even if Naoko wasn't willing to do something new (which we don't know if that's indeed the case), they could have hired someone else to illustrate the cover. This book was not written by her so it doesn't really require art from her specifically. It's not like they aren't already creating new art for various merchandise and brand collaborations. There's no excuse for this level of thoughtlessness and neglect.

Back cover and insert.

I had a sliver of hope that the cover art would be new because all of the covers of the books that imprint publish seem to have the same aesthetic, so I was hopeful there was an in-house illustrator who'd draw up a new picture for the cover. If they were going to reuse art, I thought they'd either reuse the cover art for the first volume of the perfect/eternal edition, or that they'd reuse a piece of Crystal artwork. But to reuse this fifteen year old illustration? And to do such a lazy job of laying out the cover? *screams* They really couldn't get Marco to draw something? What are they going to do for the cover of volume 2? Reuse this image?

Hmm just read the blurb - quite ordinary : basically Tsukino Usagi meets a strange cat called Luna and she tells her that she is the chosen one and they have to find the others etc etc. Interestingly they do say the famous manga is now being completely novelized in the last sentence.
