Speaking about remake and spin off; Saint Seiya as mentionned before will get a new spin off series in Japon in few days and a new remake serie on Netflix next summer.

The criticism about the last one, due to the new trailer, reminds me a lot of fans reactions with SM Crystal.... Fan base are basically bunch of nostalgic fans who cannot accept something new and always claimed that they could do better lol

The problem of Crystal was simple, the format was wrong for the first 2 seasons (too few episodes - who can be faithful to the manga without having to copy it page per page; budget for a web serie) and they introduce difference with the story and the tone in the first seasons bringing us nowhere. But I still think that the Black Moon part was so much better than the SM R version.

People claiming that animation was wrong never watched the Blu-ray version which is not perfect but so much better.
This is the version that we should have had from the beginning. The remake of She-Ra from Netflix is amazing and the animation is far worst than Crystal.

Regarding the 2 movies I seriously doubt about them comin... but SM is still a huge licence for TOEI internationally so who knows...

PS : I’m totally agains the idea of having SM spin off series... maybe a prequel with V but otherwise I find the idea ridiculous.

The trailer's too Michael Bay-ish. Hoping it won't end up like Titans. Titans takes itself too seriously.

Just how many Precures can you fit in a movie? Would have been great if the Sailor Wars was like that but TOEI's been too conservative with :usagi:

Which countries is Precure popular?
It's popular in parts of Europe...or was before Glitter Force happened.

Italy was airing every season up until Heartcatch but once Saban got the master license in 2012-2013, they were forced to skip Suite Precure because Saban refused to work with them (they tried with Toei but were told to deal with Saban) and they didn't get Precure again on Italian television until Toei started shopping around the Glitter Force dubs and got to airing it last year but the damage was already done. Keep in mind that Italy is a major market for Magical Girl properties (see also why they were the the first to get Sailor Moon back) and this whole thing screwed them and Toei out of big money since like Japan, Precure is meant to sell toys and nothing like that happened anywhere under Saban's Glitter Force brand and unless Hasbro does something (because they have Glitter Force rights now, at least for Smile), not much is changing.

As for everywhere else, Chile reaired the first series dub last year and then there's the Asian countries outside Japan since they weren't affected by Glitter Force and Precure is still relevant there today with Hong Kong currently at Happiness Charge, Korea at Go Princess and Taiwan at KiraKira and as for China...

They have each series AND movie legally streaming subtitled on that website, here's their Hugtto page.

That's a very big chunk of the market right there. It's what keeping SNK and its King of Fighters franchise alive.

Its never been popular here. I don't see any merchandise here or anyone cosplaying. Rayearth gets more reruns here from time to time.
I think it's popular in Asian countries, and used to be in Italy until Saban got the distribution rights for all Western countries.

Oh not that "nostalgia" excuse again, please, some of the people did have good points/criticism, and knew it was going to be closer to/adapt the manga, like the whole Blu-Ray thing excuse didn't work back then, before it was even released on Blu-Rays, people wouldn't be able to see it unless they either spent like over $500 US to import them with a Region 2 Blu-Ray player ($40 for two episodes is a rip-off) or illegally pirated them online, and even then and there, there would be no subtitles unless they watched the original version so many times that they could understand what the characters were saying. And frankly a lot of the times, the Blu-Ray edits in my eyes were worse, they even for a few times, drew Usagi with long hair like Minako in addition to her pigtails. Another criticism I'd have is, if it's just an animated shot by shot version of the manga (even with some changes), and you could just read the manga, what's the point? And what's even having the point of the Inners in the Black Moon manga arc if three of them are captured for half of it and the four just do nothing in it?

The reason people aren't too happy with some changes of the Saint Seiya reboot like with Shun's gender change is because Shun was one of the first ways to show that tough guy warriors also could be kind and caring at the same time, but changing his gender got rid of that.

I may have hated the way Crystal did things for its first two seasons, but it was because in my opinion, I wanted something that could capture the soul of both the manga and original anime, which I felt Crystal failed to do.

I enjoy Crystal for what it is and I want to see te rest of the manga animated, but with all these changes - first art style, now bith art style and medium, lack of news, delays... It is frustrating. Still I am glad they did istead of Sait Seiya Omega like spinoff. I just wish they expanded the manga lore and elaborated and deveopped some plogt points, but without deviatig and contradictig te manga plot. But stillenjoy it for what it is and cannot wait for some key visual and character designs.

To me they did an awesome job for S3. It compliments the 90's anime for what was lacking of :hotaru: action.

I agree, I just missed a more detailed desogns especially becsuse of hair bubbles, the flustered cheeks and the dorito skirts, but Kazuko Tadano will fix it for sure. I just hope they reveal it soon, so we van be excited once again. Everything else was quite decent and Chiaki Kon proved herself

Funny I read the same kind of comments years ago about PGSM. And now most of people here loves it... Anyway you have your opinion. I prefer to keep the best and forget the worst ;)

The Point of Crystal was never to remake the classic serie but to adapt the manga. Sadly they forgot about it during the first season and they paid for it big times by deleting some good humor/critical scenes with some ridiculous and un achieved plot

Yeah, that was a problem, supposedly I think they did it to make it "more mature", but the manga had hilarious scenes in it too, removing it removed a part of what made Sailor Moon (in general) enjoyable: the comedy.

S1 had terrible humor. I actually enjoyed the :usagi: and :chibiusa: scenes in S2 as it felt like the 90's R.

Back in 2016, I was eager to find out what would happen in the next episode of Crystal III, since I haven't read the Infinity arc of the manga.
Now, when I watch random scenes on Youtube, I don't see much besides mediocre to bad animation embellished with cute character designs and a nice color pallete.

The only other bad thing about season 3 which reflected on poor dvd and blu ray sells, is the fact they didn't fix animation at all, slthough there was a lot to be fixed. I hope with so much time spend on the movies, the aniation is at least decent. Honestly pacing is my main concern...

Yeah that the big Problem for season 3, why didn’t they correct some design/animation for the Blu-ray version.... I supposed the budget was already empty after the TV airing but it cost us the 4th season right after the 3th...

True, the only thing that comes to my mind as a reason to intriduce a movie format is to boost sells, as movies sells more units by default as they do not span multiple volumes. Other than that I cannot understand the motivation doing a story arc in movie format. If they wanted to try it they could have adapt some of the short/extra stories or some prequel on the Silver Millenium. But to start with ONA/TV show and continue doing it in movie format is very strange. Still they didn't realise the problem was not the series format, as the third season was released in just 3 volumes, but the fact they abandoned the practice to fix stuff on home media release and the shabby packaging in comparison to the fancy music boxes. Now with over two years gap and no promotionalmaterial, they cannot expect a decent box office. Plus to make a movie that cannot work as stand alone peace won't attract new viewers...

Agree. In comparison, while still cute, the Reboot versions of the girls weren't as sympathetic to me as in the old series. I don't need a man-hating, celibacy-practicing :rei:, a serious, non-goofy :minako:, a less short-tempered :mako: or, on a really bad day, not even a yet more socially awkward and 'nerdy' (in a classical sense) :ami:. And the lack of the hilarious mishaps we all loved so much and always just killing the bad guys instead of offering to 'cure' them almost makes it unwatchable for me as I think it's just too gruesome/boring that way.
And if Mrs T. then states that this is but more adequate to her own vision of the story, I, quite frankly speaking, don't give a fig and I'm not afraid to say into her face that I'm afraid that I probably just don't like her original vision. *Blows raspberry*

P. S.: Take this comment with a grain of salt as, of course, one should be thankful and everything and give credit where credit belongs for her creating it all in the first place but still, so much criticism must be allowed. :)

Geez, in fact, I've been binge-rewatching some Episodes (of the Stars season in particular) over the past few days myself, both out of nostalgia and for study of the drawings in hope to get their looks/personalities (maybe in a mix of both versions in an idle case) for my FF at least remotely right so that nobody can say that I really 'hate' her either.

Why the Naoko hate. There is no source that expliccitly say she asked them to do stuff in a certain way or she is pulling the strings. She did for the life action, and this is where the characters were probably the most developed. Why would she stop toei do it in this particular regard now?
