Okay, this is entirely a hypothetical question. Say, a new Sailor Moon anime were greenlit. That is all peachy keen. However, the magical girl genre has not been stagnant since Sailor Moon's end. What elements from recent magical girl series would you like to see used in a Sailor Moon adaptation? What elements do you think it would be a good idea to adopt to compete against other shows and to attract young viewer interest?

I do kindly ask that you do not bash other magical girl shows in your replies.

Like Pretty Cure, I would love to see SM use the high amount of physical fighting and post modernism that it had. Also, due to the success of Madoka, a dark story akin to the manga (if not just adapting the manga all together).

More gadgets. :ninja: I really liked the cell phones from PGSM. Let's give them smart phones this time, each customized to each girls style.

The only more recent magical girl I've seen is Princess Tutu, and I don't know of anything Sailor Moon could really take from it. Unless she's going to start dancing...

Well, if Usagi tried to be Princess Tutu, she'd fall over. XD
Well, to be fair, Princess Tutu isnt that recent. It's over 10 years old

Tokyo Mew Mew was a pretty recent one, but I don't really think that would contribute much to a new Sailor Moon. In fact I think that show got its ideas from Sailor Moon :p

I hope it would get more physical fighting, like it pretty cure. I think the biggest change would be in character design. the difference between civilian and super form gets more and more drastic with each magical girl show. I think we'd probably get more subtle looking girls who transform into the iconic hair styles and colors of the sailor scouts. also, power ups and new characters making sooner appearances.

Besides PreCure and Madoka, what has come out in the magical girl genre in the last 5 years? Even PreCure's almost 10 years old now, debuting in 2004. If we limit ourselves to anything from 2007 onward, I think we're kind of limited to those two series and Shugo Chara. There may be some others, but they've probably slid under the collective fandom radar.

I don't exactly consider Panty & Stocking a Magical Girl anime. It's a PPG parody, but, it's more of a comedy than a MG type anime.

This is GAINAX we're talking about. GAINAX has yet to venture into the MG area...unless you want to call Wish Upon the Pleiedes (sp) a MG anime...but that was for a car company and was four episodes long.

First and foremost, everything would be computer animated. So that would polish up transformations and, if they took a cue from Madhouse, smooth out their movement animation.

I'd also think that the character design would change, similar to how the design changed from the R season to the S-Stars seasons. The senshi began to look more modern instead of borrowing from that 1980s Minky Momo style. I could easily see a remake on them - most notably, the eyes would be the biggest change.

I'd also like to see a special group henshin, rather than a split screen or everyone one by one. A good example is Heartcatch Pretty Cure.
Well, we've already got one done by Usagi & Chibiusa together. :P

Really? :eeklez: I saw it just 5 years ago. And other than that, I've got nothing.

Oh, I know there were a lot in the last 10 years, but not in the last 5. I consider 10 years recent, but Princess Tutu and Tokyo Mew Mew got shot down for being that old. That's why I was asking.

Also, well played with the giant list. Well played.

I think that quite a few of the listed titles are either blatant parodies(Dokuro-chan) or outright deconstructions of the magical girl genre(Madoka), so I have to wonder how many of those series are actually being played completely straight.

I hope they just keep to the manga.

I mean c'mon these girls can fly. Most of their major battles are in the air with them flying around like fighter jets. The anime just has them standing their.

No stock footage.

No MOTD everyday. It will be nice here and there but everyday till the plot thickens no thank you.

More character background.

More recurring characters, we see a character with a great story one episode and then we never see them again lets keep these characters going.
