I'd imagine that Usagi would be super into memes and Minako would be trying to debut as an idol on a streaming site with her own YouTube or NicoNico channel.

Ami might be spending more time online or studying on her phone? Idk...I don't think she'd change too much. Makoto would probably mostly act the same.

As for Rei, I guess it depends on which version of the story you're following. Her 90s anime entrepreneur side would probably come out in a social media manager role for the Hikawa Shrine.

I honestly don't think the Outers would be very different at all. Or maybe I just can't think of anything.

Any other random/silly/fun ideas?

Oh man, and you just know Usagi and Minako would be in the same MMO group battle raid thingies without knowing it before they met as Sailor Senshi.

Artemis would have to frequently lecture Minako about using proper antiviruses and such. Rei would hate it when Usagi used her computer/tablet/etc for anything (which she would) because she'd download a virus or screw up her passwords or change the language to norwegian or reformat it or what have you, and Usagi might also have bad etiquette about logging other people out before using their accounts for things.

Michiru would probably have nice youtube videos of her violin performances too, but that's not a huge difference.

I like to think Jadeite would use spyware and pfishing schemes to drain human energy, and Masato Sanjoin would have an amazing facebook page with totally casual selfies of him doing insane things like flip-jumps off cliffs or whatever. And lots of retweeted Ferrari pictures. Naru would be all over following his posts, and so would Umino.

Maybe Chibi-Usa would ask for Pegasus' other, non-Stallion-Reve-based social media handles so she had other ways to secretly talk to him in the middle of the night?? He'd just be confused, of course, he's from Elysion.

Minako, if nothing else, would get less flak about being a tomboy. And Makoto wouldn't have lost her parents in a plane crash, JAL 123 was high in Japanese public conscience at the time but it has faded by now.

I can picture Usagi and Mamoru in a You got Mail situation with them getting along online but not in real life.

Usagi- i dunno didn’t arcades make a come back in Japan? I could see her maybe being a gamer who has gaming buddies while she plays at home.

Ami- Probably the same but more tech savvy.

Rei- probably the same

Mako- Less likely to be ashamed of her masculine attributes (which the dub was progressive in that regard) since I seem to remember PGSM doing the same.

Minako- Probably would do vlogs where she sings, acts. Most likely to be the most active on social media

Haruka-more likely to identify as genderqueer rather than as a female who merely crosssdresses (looking at anime Haruka more so than manga Haruka)

Michiru- Probably the same. Maybe more openly a proponent for LGBT? I’m not going to pretend to be super knowledgeable about LGBT rights in Japan in the current climate but that might have been something interesting for her if her paintings had sapphic themes or if she played the violin for lgbt benefits. Michiru was kind of a shallow character as is

Setsuna-They could make Setsuna an astronomy major who is indignant that pluto is a planet

Haruka and Michiru would maybe be instagram influencers and models. I can kinda see Haruka walking purposefully down the runway modeling men's clothing.

Probably agree that technology would be the cornerstone of many parts of the story.

The transformation items probably would be replaced with smartphones with the transformation app on the home page

Usagi, being a gamer, probably has tons of apps for gaming. Typical match 3 (Bejeweled or Candy Crush) or dress up (Love Nikki) or even visual novels (along the line of Choices or Episode). Hard part would be decluttering the home page. She would have more of a gamer attitude, drink caffeinated drinks and snacks on salty snacks like shrimp puffs or potato chips. She'd still remain the same otherwise in personality. Luna would at least be there to keep Usagi in line as per usual.

Ami, would probably take advantage of educational apps like language apps (In episode 62 of the 1990s anime, she almost went to Germany, so English and German would probably be in the language apps) and Microsoft Office to print out a copy of a report from a university (Hopefully it's not lyrics to an 1980s movie theme song.) Ami would remain her studious, level-headed self but may indulge in one of the games Usagi plays.

Rei, given her maturity, would keep track of business at Hikawa Shrine with a tablet assigned to the shrine that she can access remotely. Her apps would include registers, fundraiser goal trackers and access to the bank. Rei would be more collected like in the manga and not psychotically shred your ego into itty bitty pieces at the drop of a hat like in the 1990s anime be (Just because she's the Guardian of Fire doesn't give her the right to set everyone else on fire, in any given sense)

Makoto, being the domestic goddess she is would be using apps for cooking and cleaning, including ones with life hacks verified by a community. She'd still be orphaned in one way or another, but she is the same young woman who wants her ex back.

Minako, probably an influencer in today's standards, would attempt to reach an impossible goal in likes on various social media networks. So she's probably got both local networks like NicoNico and the like and worldwide like YouTube and FaceBook, not to mention she has a tracker for social media likes (in this day and age, there's an app for everything). She'd be torn between the bubbly exterior her followers see and the heartbroken, remorseful side from her years of unrequited love. Not to mention Artemis would be photographed for weekly events akin to social medias' Caturday.

Aside from the obvious of personality traits...it would be much different since electronics made their way into life.

As for app recommendations, I have been using computers since age 3 at Christmas 1990. I easily adapt to new technology as I go. Besides, they would be iGen where as the 1990s girls were on the tail end of Gen X (born in late 1970s)

I'd also expect something like that. She'd become the hostess of her own live interactive TV show on the net, while donning sexy outfits & attention-whoring to earn virtual gifts from her audience, & poor Artemis would be the reluntant regular guest in it, forced to make cute poses & perform various hilarious, goofy acts. *sigh*

Not so poor-he'd use it to train Minako. After all, if he could use Minako needing to slim down to trick her into some muscle-building exercises, then he can use this to get her to make some fitness video and put up some muscles. Especially considering that the successful fitness models make hundreds of dollars per post-and I'm not talking of the big names, those make up to 25,000 USD per post.

Comes to think, she'd be rich in no time!

Very well put!

while donning sexy outfits & attention-whoring to earn virtual gifts from her audience
How sexy?!

Crystal did little if anything to update the story to modern times.

Like, at least PGSM tried to modernize it for 2003. Even if some things like the flip phones as disguise devices are hilariously dated now.
You make a great point!
