It occurred to me today that I haven't actually (re)watched an episode of Crystal since Season III finished airing, which made me wonder about how often everyone else on here watches the show. When was the last time you watched Crystal? What episode was it? How many times have you rewatched the series? Anyone else here not watched since Season III ended? Anyone here still not watched Crystal at all? Or watched a few episodes but have yet to finish? For those who have rewatched the series, are there any episodes you skip? And do you watch the show in Japanese (with or without subtitles), or do you watch it dubbed, or do you alternate?

I have a DVD player in my car, Crystal does make for a good background show while I drive because I can only glance at the screen occasionally and that's really all you need to appreciate Crystal on re-watch. I had to drive quite a lot late last year at short notice to visit an old relative, somehow Crystal made these drives more calming and bearable. I'd typically plough through seasons 2 & 3. Haven't watched season 1 since the re-watch thread here from last year which sorta fell apart half way through, I made it my personal goal of only focusing on good or interesting aspects of each episode in my responses there.

Oh Lord....the last time I watched Crystal was when I clicked to watch this post. It's not that I don't want to watch it, just anxious....but since we are on lockdown in the states with schools and everything closing till nearly April, might as well watch Sailor Moon all day and hope some of that Moon Healing Escalation falls over this way.

Think I'll start some Crystal watching with snacks , I suppose.

about a year ago season 3 I don't mind Crystal as much as I used to but it's flawed like no tomorrow

I laugh at how almost everyone was star struck when crystal came out like it was the greatest thing since slice bread
and at the time they would say "your not a real fan unless you watch Crystal" I was like "sit on it" LOL
[all you need to be a "real fan" is to love sailor moon in general any version even dic people who tell you one version that happens to be the one that they like and not the one you do is end all be all and by not liking you aren't even considered a fan be all are bias snobs]

When it first came out the attitude was support it cause it's new and "more sailor moon" but we talked ourselves into accepting a half job
it's like eating diet rice cakes with no flavor sure you can have it for breakfast but it'll be like biting air

years later finally people realize just how crap it is especially dark kingdom arc

I don't hate crystal but sure as heck don't love it.

Act 5 is the only episode really worth rewatching, lbr.
The fact that it was done right the first time released doesn't mean that it's the best. Act 9 (Serenity awaken), 15 (Black Moon), 16 (Ami's story), 17 (Makoto's story), 22 -> 26 are very good. No need to mention SMC3. I can watch 4 episodes in a row.
People usually praise episode 21 for the Queen running scene, but it's the most boring episode for me.
I showed my students SMC in class episode 1, 2, 27A and 27B when the school year ended. They seems pretty bored watching episode 1, 2 but when I switched to 27A and 27B, they were like "wow" "oooh".
I do not like the character design of SMC3, but I have to admit that it is very interesting.

What kind of revisionist history? Besides act 1, the animation was mocked and so was the art style, that it was not a 90s sequel, etc. Just say that you don't like Crystal and go because this reply is a load of bull.

if that's what you wanna believe be my guest [ that I'm somehow making it up]
your free to look up old threads that is if the posts haven't been lost in the switch from old to new forum if you don't believe what I said, and just to point out I wasn't just referring to view points here but in other anime forums with a sailor moon crystal topic too at the time heck one place I was at back then that had a topic on that no longer exists
we don't have to agree on this topic but we can agree to disagree

one thing I do insist upon though is to keep that attitude in check, you act like I stepped on your foot.

I don't have to research into something that I experienced firsthand as a fan of Crystal. It was an easy target and the audience didn't (and still doesn't to an extent) acknowledge that Crystal wasn't following the formula of the original. Not just here, but especially on Tumblr. The "greatest thing since sliced bread" was greatly exaggerated and was likely just a vocal minority as even fans like myself criticized it. What they were most likely referring to was that we were lucky to not have the whole series not be stuck in distribution limbo and that Crystal was a sign of it.
I feel like my attitude was fine. I worded myself strongly, but merely to match in tone.

I mean... You guys are both right, and are maybe just letting your personal biases color your memories? @SILVER There were plenty of people who were vocal about how "real fans" needed to support Crystal because it was ~better than nothing~ and we should be grateful we were getting anything and if we didn't support it, we'd never get new Sailor Moon content again. @Neo King Rose From the moment the first trailer dropped, Crystal art/animation fail blogs popped up, Cthulusagi became a meme, etc. There have been vocal detractors and vocal supporters from the jump.

Sometimes I rewatch good scenes on youtube, but most episodes are too weak to rewatch.
Which scenes do you consider good? I'm having a hard time coming up with more than a few.

Let's see. I'd say Sailor Saturn's transformation, Hotaru's spirit visiting Chibiusa, Sailor Saturn's battle with Pharaoh 90, Usagi throwing herself into Pharaoh 90, Usagi transforming into Serenity to revive Hotaru...That's pretty much it for me.

To be honest, I find Crystal hard to rewatch not because of the quality (although there are arguments to be made on both sides), but because it's virtually identical to the manga. I just find it easier to reread the manga considering I don't have to skip through an opening, ending, transformation sequence, or (MANY) scenes that I generally dislike. It's like I can gloss over seeing the Silver Crystal mentioned the one hundredth time on page because I essentially control the pacing, whereas with Crystal hearing "Maboroshi no Ginzuishou" again and again makes me want to punch a wall.
