Our lovable Sailor Moon is still pretty big....just not anime wise and I seriously think that is because she needs something new. I love Sailor Moon as much as everyone in here but our Moon Princess needs something new...

I seriously doubt Toei cares how big SM used to be...they are focused on the revenue she is drawing in. Them toys thoys though..The anime was probably supposed to be nothing more than a method to buy more toys.

This have changed a lot from 20 years ago...
At least we still have the musicals which at least in Japan seem to be a lot more successful and they seem to be putting a lot more effort into the musicals than they are Crystal.

I am pretty sure that NHK (monopoly responsible for CCS: Clear Card) would be very interested in producing a proper "Sailor Moon" reboot or even a sequel. The 90's anime aired recently (2015) on NHK world and apparently it was a hit.

The problem is that the rights of "Sailor Moon" belong to TOEI and Naoko (aka PNP) and neither of these two parties seem to care much about "Sailor Moon."

Probably a good thing because if NHK were to push for a super boring show like Clear Card has been, Crystal would have been much worse than it was during it's first season. :P

Regardless of the quality of Crystal or CCS, Toei is never going to give up Sailor Moon and fans should give up on this fantasy of Toei giving up something they created to someone else which is something that rarely ever happens with anime. Ironically the last time I'm aware of it happening was when Madhouse (the studio creating CCS) gave up the rights of One Punch Man season two to another studio which ended up angering most One Punch Man fans. But Toei is not going to give up their cash cow and fans should stop begging them to because that's a fantasy. Also Toei giving up the rights to Sailor Moon would end up causing so much licensing confusion for international companies. Companies like Viz that spent a fortune licensing Sailor Moon would probably have to re-negotiate contracts all over again.

Chiaki Kon is now directing another Toei anime that will premiere in the Summer
JC Staff is NOT Toei Animation, they're the studio who worked on Utena along with Slayers, Excel Saga and others.

They're also the studio who, as @Neon Genesis mentioned, is working on season 2 of One Punch Man, replacing Madhouse and the studio Bones guys who worked on season 1.

Whatever. They’re still involved in some capacity considering the url.

I know this sucks but at least they recently reconfirmed they're doing the movies. Also if this anime premieres this summer then it means the production is already advanced. Might also explain the delay with the movies

How would the production of the movies already have advanced if Kon is most likely working on this new show now?

Anyway, It felt fishy to me that Kon would be taking time out of her busy schedule to fly to a con when supposedly they just started production on Crystal.

I meant that the production of said tv show is advanced if it premieres this summer. I guess there's also the answer to your second statement. I guess she just found the time between work on that tv show to be on the con. Then again i dont think its impossible for her to do two projects at the same time (specially if SM movies will take time)

It’s not impossible, but highly unlikely.

If there’s no news in June during Usagi’s Birthday then I’m just going to assume they have no intention of making these movies. There’s no point of even waiting that long for something that will most likely turn out subpar given Toei’s record with this franchise.

I guess the whole notion that Chiaki Kon is doing other projects every once in a while just shows that Toei isnt really interested in doing these movies really fast. Obviously its not her fault and i cant blame her for doing other things. If Toei really wanted they'd push her to do it or replace her with somebody else (i doubt they really care about who's the director) if she was busy with other stuff all the time.

Either way i still think its a good sign that they just reconfirmed the movies. I also wonder if the 4D ride short isnt the cause of the delay. Maybe Toei isnt willing to pay for multiple SM projects and 4D got the priority

I don’t think it’s Kon’s fault at all. She’s clearly a huge fan of Sailor Moon, but like if Toei has no intention of starting production on these movies, I don’t blame her on working on other things.

The 4D ride was apparently not produced by TOEI so it shouldn’t have delayed anything Crystal related.

I think thousands of letters written to TOEI, Naoko, and Osabu showing that fans disapprove the treatment the franchise has received would be interesting. If someone knows Japanese, everyone could send the same letter and just sign it. That, and threatening not to buy any toys.
