Threaten not to buy their toys, say you feel disgusted as a fan, something around those lines.

It is obvious, by now, that fans carry this franchise on their shoulders.

I'm going to Japan in July and I've made the decision I won't be buying any stuff from the SM store to show my disapproval of the treatment of the franchise.
Sure Crystal was a flop but SM merchandising is still making millions to Toei and they are giving priority to new shows with even lower ratings.

I think thousands of letters written to TOEI, Naoko, and Osabu showing that fans disapprove the treatment the franchise has received would be interesting. If someone knows Japanese, everyone could send the same letter and just sign it. That, and threatening not to buy any toys.
Guys there not going to care about what a bunch foreiners think. Also Idont know how old anyone is?I guessing everyone here is basically an young or adult.Your also barking the wrong tree.Naoko why have sime creative control.Pribavly dosent have any say when the movise get made

If the poor sales of Crystal merch and the season three BDs in Japan weren't enough to convince Toei they're badly mishandling Crystal, I'm not sure anything would. Any drop in sales in 90s anime merchandise, Toei would probably interpret it to mean international fans don't care about Sailor Moon in general rather than saying something about Crystal specifically.

I definitely think Toei has been convinced they've mishandled Crystal. The big changes between Crystal 1-2 and Crystal 3 really reflect an awareness of putting out a bad product, and I think that the switch to movies shows that they know they can't continue Crystal as it was in the past.

Of course, all of this could have been avoided if they just put out a better product from the beginning.

I don't buy that many Sailor Moon products but I'll continue to support the franchise however I can in hopes of another adaptation in the far future.

I actually loved season 3 and think they should have continued with the format of season 3.
Agreed.

I also think it would've been nice if they'd made a consistent plan from the beginning instead of having all the delays and changes that make it as difficult as possible to follow the series, but hey.

Probably a case of them wanting to see how the show went before committing to anything. I mean, they probably got feedback of the animation of the first two seasons, which is why they changed it up for season 3.

Pretty bad test. They should have released a movie or at best, a "TV special" to test it instead of an ongoing series to see if it was popular. Had they did like they did with Dragon Ball Z ( Hell, I would have been fine with even a Beryl & Morga returns type of movie lol) because even though I keep saying it and it probably will never happen, Sailor Moon needs a new story or even better, a new set of enemies to fight or something.

It's saddening that that outta of the last two seasons introduction..They get condensed instead of expanded. There is so much to work on here for new stuff. We have the introduction of the Quartet, mention of Senshi from other planets, the Sailor Wars (I've been waiting for a movie based on the Sailor Wars for a while. IMO, a movie about something like this would have been ideal for me.)

The side story potential is there as well. We have Luna, Artemis...Tin Nyanko, Phobos, Desmos...etc. Idk why the series can't take liberties like the musicals and gives us something new in the anime.

An anime version of PGSM would have been great and done nice....maybe Sailor Luna would have fit better there and Darkury? Lol. Switch the ballet out with some actual anime/Sentai styled fights along with the flips and stuff already present and you got a pretty great series with twists and turns.

Exactly.

It’s one thing if they were unsure how Crystal would fare as a new Sailor Moon anime. It’s another thing if they thought that rushing out an ONA with one of the worst release schedules was playing it safe.

They should have made Dark Kingdom arc as 3 movies. I don't mind waiting for 2 years (8 months for each movie) or 3 years.
I wouldn't mind if they did Akira's style from the start. But the way they change it after 2 seasons made me think they couldn't afford the luxury of SMC1 and 2, and they just went from this mistake to that mistake.

In short, it's all about poor planning - if they'd set their goal more precisely & been more aware of the resources they could afford to allocate to the project, the production would've been way more consistent & many mistakes would've been avoided, instead of falling into the trap of its current erratic state. *sigh*

Honestly it would've been for the best if they did first season as it was but on tv like season 3. Then the anime would end in 2014. Then they could take a year break in 2015 to see how it did and if they need to change or fix anything. Then do 24 episode season of Infinity and Dream in 2016 and another break in 2017. Finally two movie Stars in 2018 and 2019 (because Stars really could work well as 2 movies)

"Testing" SM was really bad idea. They had the merch going on since 2012

Shoujo anime is in a pretty sad state of affairs if they had to test how well a reboot of the most popular shoujo anime in the world would do.

I agree that testing a franchise of the caliber of "Sailor Moon" is a bad idea. What was on their minds? Of course, fans would feel insulted, disappointed, and angry.

I doubt they released the first two seasons as a bi monthly web OVA as part of some kind of test though and it seems more likely Toei for whatever reason just couldn't secure a TV station and timeslot to air Crystal. So maybe they decided to release it in a web format instead of delaying it further till they were able to find a network. I wouldn't be surprised if this was also likely why they switched to the movie format for the Dream arc. If it's true Infinity had such poor reception in Japan, they might not have been able to secure a timeslot if there wasn't a network interested in airing more of Crystal, so they went with the film format instead.

As far as i remember S3 got as good reception in Japan as in the west. Its the Blurays that sold poorly but thats no surprise since A) there were only 3 volumes this time around. B) they had no animation fixes and C) they had no bonuses and extras.

But not just that: if S3 had a poor reception they wouldnt keep Chaiki Kon as a director and they probably wouldnt do Dream at all instead of doing movies that require better quality and promotion than tv show
