So if they make the movies at all, we are going to have to wait. If they had something done by now, they would have said something.

If an announcement is made on June 30, Usagi's birthday, it will probably be that the movie will come out next year's fall... or in 2020.

TOEI.

Didn’t they say in March that it probably wouldn’t be until 2019 or 2020 anyway?
That's the latest I know as well. At Anime Matsuri, there was no information offered by Chiaki Kon or Osabu until someone in the audience of the event finally asked... The answer was 1-2 years from then ^^;;. (Source is various con-goers on Twitter.)

Sorry for complaining but how hard can it be to churn out the script? They wasted no time creating a new DBS series a few months after and they whip up a new Pretty Cure season every year. I feel that if they can make a DBS story plot from a video game, surely they could have just given us a Sailor Moon Another Story side series as well.

I mean I don't mind the wait, and then I do at the same time. I'm looking at it from a fan prespective and not a business one though, so I guess I can see my slight annoyance may be a bit misguided.

All these other old shows get new content and story adventures but our Queen can't even get through her manga adaptation in a timely manner.. Haha.

Guess we gotta keep on til 2020. I guess they are waiting for the original series to finish up releasing before releasing more Crystal to accompany it.

Like i said in this topic If Takeuchi-sensei made sequel series - we would get Crystal much faster Other series are getting new content, so they have more priority over another retelling of same story, it is cruel, but money is top priority, if Takeuchi-sensei made new series, i guarantee you there would make Crystal much faster, so they can get into new story as soon as possible (Like they did with Dragon Ball Kai before BoG/F and later Super)

^Honestly Naoko wouldnt even have to create new series but rather let Toei do it with her ideas and supervision

Either way that script issue was possibly true but honestly i do believe they said it just to have some excuse that would hide the real ones they werent allowed to say. I do expect something on Usagi and Chibiua b-day but im pretty sure it wont be news but rather some small info/update.

We might get nothing at all too because they never promised any info at all.

Ultimately what matters most to Toei and Naoko are sales profits and Crystal isn't making them any money so they're going to focus on what does make them money which is the 90s anime merch and Seramyu. All we can do is wait and see but it's better to go in the anniversary with zero expectations than to hype yourself up and be disappointed. But with Ami's voice actress studying abroad until March 2019, I'm not expecting them to be anywhere near starting any kind of production that requires voice work.

Next time when someone ask them about the progress of the movie at an anime event, they could simply reply that they're waiting for Ami's voice actress to come back.

Oh, come ON!

It’s extremely stupid to say that this is Naoko’s fault for not creating anything new. They could’ve just adapted the Princess Kaguya manga if they needed material THAT badly, or the side stories that haven’t been adapted yet. I just find it a very thin excuse and honestly, a bit misogynistic, to put the blame on the author when Toei is infamous for being ****** with their anime. It isn’t being prioritized and that’s certainly the true reason why we haven’t had anything come out yet.

Yeah, I definitely would say this Toei and not Naoko. They have plenty of material they can adapt to and have shown in the past that if they want, they can come up with their own in house plot.

Adapting the Another Story plot into episodes would have been interesting. We've know the plot but seeing it animated would be nice, plus it gives plenty of time to focus on each specific Senshi solo when they travel. I loved that part of Senshi going to other countries to fight different youma.

SM:AS could really benefit from an anime adaptation. (SEEMS like a good opportunity to sell more merchandise if you ask me.)

Sailor Moon seems like one of those anime where you have to nail it right and not take any short comings though. It's probably a lot of pressure to make sure things go right with such an iconic series. Granted, I'm not the biggest fan of Crystal, it's still SM and I like it even so. Just wish they gave us a little extra side dishes in between the main courses.

As much as i agree we can blame Toei for the quality and their priorities i dont think we can blame them for creating new material. Im pretty sure they cant do anything without Naoko's permision. At the end of the day they created several different versions of SM universe so at least they've shown interest in keeping the franchise alive.

They already adapted Kaguya in the S movie and doing it again wouldnt accomplish much and would hardly feel new.
The remaining unadapted side stories are all one shot side stories (2 more exam battles, 2 more Chibiusa diaries, Casablanca memories and Paralell SM)
And as much i would LOVE to see Sailor V anime i can see why they might think it wouldnt be as attractive as it seems (few short stories focusing on a single senshi).

Im pretty sure if we'd ever see a new material after Crystal ends it would have to be either written by Naoko or created with her official blessings. The remaining unadapted material just isnt strong enough to make the franchise feel fresh or new

I dont put blame on Takeuchi, im just saying i kinda understand Toei, latest project SM related for TV, was PGSM, and it flopped, it made Toei think that after over 12 years SM ranchise is done...even with their most profitable franchis,e, DB, they first did half-assed remake Kai, with poorly redrawn scenes and badly cut Z footage, it wasn't until Toriyama jumped back on series they decided to make new anime and series started sell again. (Kai sold very badly in Japan) Money is everything.

To be fair, multiple people have said that Takeuchi is demanding and difficult to work with... and TOEI, as we know, is a mess of a studio. So...

I'd like to see someone producing a movie or drama about her & her relationship w/ Toei (maybe Kodansha & Bandai too) regarding the Sailor Moon franchise - could be pretty fun/dramatic. XD

I always keep coming back to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood which is still likely the most successful anime reboot. It stayed extremely faithful to the manga, it wasn't a sequel, but it was executed competently and had impressive animation and music and Bones put a lot of care into producing a high quality show. FMA Brotherhood is still considered to be one of the best anime of all time and most fans regard as better than the original anime. Hiromu Arakawa has yet to create a new FMA manga other than a one shot special she made for the live action movie but FMA is still widely popular even years later and Brotherhood is still generally regarded with high praise by both fans and critics. The issue isn't whether something is a sequel or not but how professional and serious the company behind the production is at making it. In contrast, we have the new Berserk anime which is a sequel and not a remake and is entirely new content that hasn't been adapted before but it suffered from terrible CGI animation and is generally loathed by anime fandom and critics in spite of the Berserk sequel being new content.

A sequel to the 2012 reboot movies that is, uses the exact same voice cast from those films....well, except in English because Crunchyroll is terrible.

Thankfully everything, including what wasn't in this CG dumpster fire, was covered in the Berserk Musou game.....and the CG in that looks better.
