Neither. I personally believe both suck, but I'll pick Cloverway, because atleast they kept some of the things in the anime in its original from. Like the music, and names (i.e. Hortaru)

I couldn't stand either as well. My vote goes to [THE HAPPY PLACE] Productions to dub the thing again! I coudn't watch an entire episode without shoving a spoon up my ass! If I'm going to go through that much pain, I'm going to do it to myself.

What was the point in keeping Hotaru's name if they're going to pronounce it like an uneducated crack whore and leave the others' names 'dubified'? Hoe tah roo Toe 'mo? Uh-huh...

DiC for sure. I just hated Cloverway. The only redeeming thing about Cloverway was Sugar but she's not enough to salvage that dub. Pretty much every actor change was for the worse and even those actors that were the same as in the DiC dub seemed to be putting forth worse acting then with the DiC version.

As far as accuracy of translation and music and all that I don't really see how this is an issue anymore. Back in the hey day I see how it's a problem but now that subbed version of varying quality are available for all translated series the differences in the dub only serve to add to the amount of material. And I for one loved the DiC music and songs. I wouldn't say they're better than the Japanese music but like I said it's just bonus so where's the harm?

Cloverway on the other hand is in every way worse bringing nothing new to the table. The music is all the same and the acting is just worse so what exactly am I getting from this that I'm not getting from the subbed version which, for S and SuperS, is of a quality that ADV can't even compare to.

You don't want to hear Sushil as Chibiusa.

Anyway, I'm with aDam. DiC is great if you consider it to be an American cartoon called Sailor Moon, and not a dub of an anime by the same name. Like he said, great music and songs.

Don't get me wrong, the music was great! I liked it and have downlaoded some from SailorMusic.net (screw the whole CD!). It's just the acting and the little retardation comments 'children's' anime get when they're dubbed. I thought it was great when it first came out, but when I saw the light, I kicked my tapes to the curb and searched for Japanese!!!! Yay... I'm retarded myself.

I absolutely hate both versions but if I had to pick one I would say DIC. I know Cloverway was truer to the original but it was completely unwatchable for me. I couldn't stand the voices for Serena and Amy. Amara and Michelle being cousins made me sick. Michelle had the same voice as Serena's mom! If it weren't for the voices I might have liked it better.

I give Cloverway a lot of credit for attempting S and Super S, and loved the new Rini voice, but I hated the fact that Sailor Moon and Serena sounded like 2 different people and that Haruka and Michiru sounded very robotic. There were too many errors sometimes you hear Neptune Star Power and sometimes Neptune Planet Power sigh.
The Dic dubs hold a special place in my heart since they got me into Sailor Moon in the first place. Although the music was not like the Japanese one I liked many of the songs they came up with, I also liked all of the voices. I noticed that the end of Sailor Moon R "the lost episodes" as they were called, were near perfect with translation and even had Mercury say shine aqua illusion and Tuxedo Mask say Sailor Soldiers, DIC seemed to wisen up at the end.
Who will ever have the courage to do Sailor stars?

DIC - Terri Hawkes was great as the VA for Sailormoon.

Whoever did the voice of Sailormoon in S and SuperS was absolutely horrible!!! I couldn't bare listening to her for even for a minute. I also liked Rini's voice in the DIC version too. However I do appreciate that S and SuperS kept the original music, but other than that, I preferred the DIC version despite many edits.

Linda-sama as Usagi in SMS and SMSS, correct? I only like the songs from DiC and nothing else (Ex: "I want Someone to Love"). Everything else, Ugh.......

Technically "both" dubs were done by Optimum's staff. Writing and all. Same head writer. Nicole Thault, one of Optimum's vice presidents, who is not an English speaker was in charge of direction of the S & SuperS run. She was assistant director during the period when Roland Parliament and Tracey Hoyt directed and wasn't liked much by the cast, I've read.

Best dub set was the last 17 of SMR which had one writer rather than several people given random episodes without any collaboration with each other. Note in the writer credits, I forgot her name, but there was at least one writer who was there for every run.

Both dubs have its pros and cons. Still, I don't like either of them. I didn't like how DiC made new background music but they kept the basic mood of each scene. I liked how Cloverway kept all the music but I don't like how they assigned voice actors that can't act! :( Kudos to the Cantonese dub!

Cloverway. I could actually stand the voices. Mina's voice actress was cool. And so were many of the others. And Cloverway dub of Sailormoon was my first. And it is the reason why I'm here now. :)

I liked them both because well... I was a little kid and couldn't tell the difference. I had no idea there was a japanese version either. The only thing I did notice was that Serena's voice changed. She didn't have that wailing kind of cry anymore and I kinda missed it.
