Probably, NEVER. It's more likely some time late next year or the year after. Personally, I'll be a bit irate if the movie's writing or animation is like Season 3 & hasn't improved. The manga is so rushed, perhaps a movie will be the best for it. We all know how Stars is & a movie adaptation will prob be the best bet since they don't wanna add any new content to the show.
I hope they'll be good too. I also hope for Stars they don't just kill off the Inners and Outers quickly or I'll be enraged, I want to see what all of their castles look like, not just Pluto, Neptune and Uranus'.
I make no bones about the fact, that I have developed a very, very, very, very low opinion of fan-bases over the years. And regard all hardcore fans as irritating dipsticks. Dubbies, Subbies, Purists, Shippers, 90's kids. ETC.
The fact is, this sort of behaviour isn't exclusive to Sailor Moon. You get conflict and elitism in every major franchise under the sun. Especially long running ones.
Case in point, the anonymity you receive on the Internet, allows people to behave in manners they wouldn't normally dare do face to face.
So you end up with a load of snivelling cretins, who have never seen nor met, siting at their keyboards feebly trying to one up each other.
Social Media, Messageboards like this, and the comments section of YouTube are all breeding grounds for such tediousness. And until this method of communication is given a drastic overhaul, or the Internet is unplugged/erased, that will sadly be the norm. So you'll just have to either ignore or avoid as much of it as you can. Because ultimately it will just get to you in the end, and erode your will to live.
Frankly. I consider Crystal little more then some half-baked exercise by Toei to sponge of certain people's bias and nostalgia. And so far I have been given precious little reason to think otherwise.
Even if I'd never seen or watched anything Sailor Moon related beforehand (as indeed has a significant number of its critics) I still would have found it forgettable, cheaply made rubbish. Full of lazy writing, hollow characters, and that the Inner Senshi are infuriatingly pitiful.
Likewise, I have precious little interest in hearing the equally pitiful attempts to hand wave or dismiss its glaring amount of flaws. Which nine times out of ten involves resorting to the tired old tactic of taking infantile potshots at the original series, because they can't come up with anything else.
And do not get me started on how much I want to vomit over anyone who tries to justify Haruka doing 'that' to Usagi. Particularly since a similar incident happened to a relative of mine, and thus strikes a personal chord.
The fact it has to keep reinventing itself says plenty to me. By this point it's only the brands popularity that's keeping it barely above the waterline. If this had been a stand-alone show, it would have fallen of the map long ago. In which case, any decent adaptation should not have to rely heavily on other incarnations of the same story to provide or fill in the bulk of it's substance for it.
And it's not like Naoko's messy, hastily written narratives can't be presented in a more palatable manner, since the musicals have done a pretty respectable job at it. Or is it that unreasonable to expect a similar level of effort be made?
To summarize. I dislike Crystal simply because I find it plain bad on it's own merits. Rose-tinted garbage doesn't come into it. As for the 'fans'. Well they're just an unpleasant extra, and who I want nothing whatsoever to do with.
Some people ship Ami x Taiki though there was no romance between them, and Minako x Yaten though Yaten didn't have romantic feelings for her and Minako dropped hers, they don't work at all, nor does the Usagi x Seiya one I've seen, Usagi displayed no romantic feelings for Seiya while he did with her. I like the Three Lights but those shipping just do not work. At least they're better than the Crystal Usagi x Haruka ones, ugh...
Agreed, especially with some fandoms like Star Wars', which I never joined at all. I mostly have been trying to steer clear of stuff like that in a lot of fandoms, though for the Sailor Moon fanbase and with Crystal itself, I discovered the rabid/bad side of the Crystal fandom in less than a month, but it's easier to avoid stuff like that. I mostly just block/ignore people like that now, though said rant I did PM was there because one user was getting on my nerves.
I do agree, the problem is Crystal cannot stand on its own, and the fact that all the fans can do is just attack others personally (for liking the original anime/manga better, not liking Crystal on its own merits), and just do pitiful, stupid, lacking potshots at the original (which don't work most of the time as they're lacking, biased, and just fanboying/fangirling over Crystal and acting like they never saw the original or something) and not come up with anything close to a valid argument. I never had rose-tinted stuff when I disliked Crystal also, I only started seeing the original anime round about 2010, and it's more preference for me. I think the only reason Sailor Moon's back is the resurgence of merchandise (mostly older ones selling), and Crystal from what I heard, individual Japanese Blu-Ray sales wise, tanked, for some reason, the complete seasons sold better...
And yes, had Crystal been the only version of Sailor Moon, only anime version, it would have been an anime I never would have seen nor loved in the first place.
I am sorry to hear what happened to your relative and I hope he/she is doing fine. And yeah, that thing was inexcusable, and the fact people defend it is even more disgusting.
I heard Toei rushed Stars admittedly and made it short and dark to bring back fans of S (funnily enough Stars itself is kinda like S in ways though not as great).
