Hi everyone! I have decided to make a poll for Sailor Mars/Rei Hino's voice actresses and the question is who is your favorite Rei Hino/Sailor Mars voice actress?

Here are my favorite Sailor Mars voice actresses, for her Japanese voice I vote for both Michie Tomizawa and Rina Sato because they both did a very excellent job voicing Rei and they give wonderful performances too. As for her English voice I vote for Cristina Valenzuela (Cristina Vee) and Katie Griffin because they both give their own unique voices to her and they both did a very awesome job portraying her character too.

Since I don't understand Japanese, I really can't judge the Japanese voice acting.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Katie Griffin was the best Sailor Mars of the three, and as someone in a famous video comparison stated (I can't find the video at the moment), she seemed to make an audience member feel the excitement she felt instead of acting excited. She got not only the anger, but also the snootiness, the brattiness, and the softness that are at a part of Rei's character. Katie Barlow did so-so to fill in, and Mars didn't have much of a role in the episodes she voiced, but it didn't leave much of an impression.

Christina Vee is a supremely talented voice actress, but the way she was directed to perform Sailor Mars made her virtually indistinguishable from the other girls in many episodes, and it still fell flat in later episodes (note, listen to the acting, not the contents of the lines). This is not her fault as a performer, but it is a problem with the performance.

That's true that Katie Griffin did a very amazing job voicing Rei in the 90s dub and no other actress from the 90s dub would be able to voice Rei in a very amazing way as Katie Griffin. As for Cristina Vee I agree that she is very talented and that she sounds very different from the other actresses in the Viz dub. I'm guessing the reason why Viz made her sound the way she sounded is because they wanted her to sound like Rina Sato instead of Michie Tomizawa for the 90s anime, but in my honest opinion it would have been amazing if they let her sound like Michie for the 90s anime while having her sound like Rina for the Crystal anime.

oof I forgot how damn similar Mars and Venus sounded in the Viz dub (ironic that Emilie Barlow voiced both for Optimum Productions)

The voice directing from Studiopolis seemed to be the big problem, as again I’ll reiterate the Viz dub did not suffer from a lack of talent, if anything on paper one would only look at the cast list and assume it would have absolutely thrashed the DiC dub in voice acting but that’s not what happened. Viz’s dub is a really strong testament to the importance of a good voice director among other things.

of course Katie Griffin isn’t just my favorite voice actor for Rei but one of my favorite voice actors for Sailor Moon period. She just understood the character.

Katie Griffin's performance is literal perfection. She will always be anime Mars to me, just as Keiko will always be live action Mars to me.
Yeah I agree that Katie Griffin is a very fantastic voice actress and Keiko's performance in PGSM is very amazing, plus she's the perfect actress to play as Rei for the live action series.

Katie, hands-down. I love Keiko as her too. So much passion in her performance. Her new Crystal voice actress (JP) is good too, though. She doesn't get a lot of opportunities to emote as Rei, but her Mars Snake Fire attack call has so much OOMPH to it. All three of them bring a certain fire (lol) to their performances that I really enjoy.

Yeah Katie is awesome and she is the best voice actress for Sailor Mars in the 90s dub. Keiko is my favorite actress from PGSM and I love her performance in the series too. I agree that Rina does a very amazing job with Sailor Mars's attack calls and that she makes Sailor Mars sound very mature too.

I love Keiko as Mars too! She definitely was the best fit for a live-action tokusatsu interpretation of the character.

We also need to remember the Cristina Vee's Mars was meant to emulate more of Sailor Mars from the manga rather than Sailor Mars from the 90's anime who are both completely different characters.

@Guardian Princess Nadia, Griffin definitely sounds more in-character than Vee in the comparison video you posted.
However, her performance sounds a little overacted. That "heart snatchers!" line and her reactions (ahh! ugh!) are examples of that. But I guess that's because how rushed the old dub was in some points of the show.
Vee delivers a more polished performance, but the problem is... She sounds more like Crystal Mars than 90s Mars. She is still there, calling the daimon out for its deeds with authority, but it doesn't sound like a proper English rendition of Tomizawa's work.
So, I would say both renditions have their merits.
