I completely disagree with you Guardian Princess Nadia on Usagi and Mamoru for one they did have moments showing their attraction in the first season of Sailor Moon. Like when Usagi was clearly jealous of Rei dating Mamoru and in the later parts of say the Rainbow Crystal arc the two began to grow closer and become more friendly and in the art episode with Yumemi Yumeno began to show mutual attraction to one another. Also the two do become closer without the aid of memories in the Makai Tree arc. Also I disagree that Usagi and Mamoru don't seem like they belong together as they make a great couple and they compliment each other well with their different strengths and weaknesses. Also he and Rei were not a better match as really he didn't show much romantic interest in Rei and only really went on dates to keep her happy and didn't really show any attraction to her besides being friends. He showed much more passion for Usagi.

Also I imagine that even if none of them in the 90s anime got their memories back they would still eventually become a couple as they always had an attraction to each other even when they had that stereotypical love/hate relationship that is overused in anime.

Although my opinion is based on anime, I would prefer Seiya over Mamoru/Endymion. Seiya promised Usagi she will protect her no matter what. Tuxedo Mask is just.....needless. His rose stuff makes me sick. That's it.
However, based on Manga, Mamoru was slightly better than Anime.
Yeah but Seiya only really loved Usagi because she reminded her of Princess Kakyuu. Also I don't see what is the issue with his rose stuff as I found it in some instances pretty cool. Also I don't get how people say that Mamoru was so much better in the manga when in reality his anime and manga counterparts weren't really that different he just got to shine more in some instances of the manga.

Maria, I understand what you are saying. You're most definitely entitled to your opinions. I agree with that Mamoru had more time to shine in the manga. I personally prefer Mamoru being a high schooler at the start of the manga.

Well his age dosen't really matter to me as he was shown to love Usagi deeply in all versions.

I realized I didn't give my answer yet ^_^'

I voted for Mamoru and Jadeite.

Even though I think they're kind of a bland couple (I feel like neither of them ever does anything particularly romantic), they're at least a relatively healthy and supportive one in the manga, live action series, Crystal, and musicals (occasional unconscious kisses and bouts of petty jealousy aside) and I can't seriously imagine Usagi with anyone else. As for the anime... they're honestly barely even a couple in it, and there's too much of a disparity in their ages and maturity levels for me to really be supportive of them. At least the DIC dub downplayed the past life stuff; at times in the Japanese version, it seemed almost like Usagi and Mamoru were only together because Serenity and Endymion were.

As for Jadeite, I just think they'd make an attractive couple, and there was a little bit of chemistry between them in the anime. Had Jadeite been healed, who knows what might have happened.

Special shout-out to Beryl. As a rule I ship her with Setsuna (points to signature vvv) but in the context of the canon/continuity of La Reconquista, I think they could have made an interesting couple, and I wouldn't mind seeing that idea explored in a future retelling.

I definitely disagree with you here. They were a very strong couple in the 90s anime and had numerous romantic moments. Also it simply isn't true that Usagi and Mamoru were only together because Serenity and Endymion were. For one they have said before that their past lives weren't the reason for them falling in love rather their mutual love and attraction was. Also in the 90s anime in Classic they did show attraction to one another as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask and even in their civilian forms as I mentioned above showed attraction to one another and in the Makaiju arc they became close to one another without the aid of their memories atleast on Mamoru's part.

As for Jadeite I personally think that he would be a better match for either Thetis or Queen Beryl as both of those ships I think could work. I do not like him with Rei as I prefer her with Yuuichirou.

It is interesting you mentioned Setsuna and Beryl as a ship as I personally thought they would make an interesting couple as well. Especially with their songs Onna No Ronsou about their mutual unrequited love for Endymion. I thought that it would be interesting if Beryl was redeemed and Setsuna and Beryl became closer due to their mutual unrequited love for Endymion and eventually began to have feelings for one another.

Yeah, I agree. He's about the same age in all the versions. I was refering to his education.

I love Usagi and Mamoru but I think their chemistry is the best in Classic when they are at odds with one another. I think their interaction in the First part of R is really good to. Mamoru was pretty mean to her in Classic but it was still more fun to watch than later in the series where in my opinion Mamoru just comes off as a very stale vanilla nothing person that is painted out as being way more emotionally mature than her. In the early seasons Mamoru just seems like a rich teenager wheras in S and Super S Mamoru really comes off more like a boring 40 year old man.Like in the S movie Usagi sounds so much older than she is when she talks about Mamoru talking about boring intellectual stuff and then falling asleep on the couch. I like Seiya specifically because in my opinion they bring back that season 1 dynamic only it's like a lite version because Seiya is actually nice to her and flirty and not like insulting her all the time.

actually I agree chiba was better in season 1 even though he had his jerky moments the banter was more fun then
I also believe the whole break up in R was stupid for too many reasons but setting that aside for a sec I believe he proved himself
in the doom tree arc cause of moonlight knight being the part of himself that wants to protect Usagi making the break up's test even more pointless in my opinion

I never question Usagis feelings to him as she's practically obsessed
I more question him especially in later eps where if it's not in a major plot ep [especially they type that advances the romance] he practically has to be reminded at times by Usagi to ask if he still loves her without him just saying it naturally he's so dead pan most of the time it's irritating
you wonder why I hate them together it's cause I never feel like he appreciates her enough sure he saves her but he kinda has to for earth's and destiny's sake

I wanna see him act romantically in the 90s anime without those at stake or without being told as a reminder I can think of one when he ate her burnt cookie in S but what else? [not taking about manga crystal pgsm or any other version besides the 90s anime as he has proven himself there]

Actually Rose he had numerous moments where he was romantic with her without anything at stake. Also Mamoru has said that he loves Usagi many times. The main reason that Usagi keeps asking him this is because she is naturally insecure and would be like this no matter who she was with it is just a character flaw. Also you are completely off base Mamoru bends over backwards to cater to Usagi and be good to her like in the birthday episode when Usagi slapped Mamoru for forgetting her birthday when she never told him in the first place and Mamoru like a dutiful boyfriend went and bought her those glass shoes like she asked for. Also as for saying I love you from a cultural perspective saying I love you in Japan just isn't as common as it is in America. There are married couples who live forever for years and who all though do love each other pretty much never say I love you. Again Japanese are not known for constant PDA.

Maybe it's because I read Love Hina as a teenager and got some warped ideas about tsundere romance, but, I always saw Mamoru and Usagi as having fairly good chemistry when he's not like, breaking up with her over weird visions from his future self or whatever. There's a few iffy moments but I thought they got visibly closer over time, and did seem to genuinely like and care about each other at least a little bit before finding out about the Endymion / Serenity thing (like her following him out of concern when she realizes he's got an open wound in episode 34). They were off to a rocky start but I could easily see a vanilla, non-magical romance story where Usagi and Mamoru met and interacted exactly the same way at first. He wasn't like, ridiculously cruel or anything, he was just really sassy and smart alecky.

Also, he gave legitimately good, serious advice in episode 23 when she asked him about Naru, showing that they could cooperate to some extent. And again with the painting modeling for Yumemi Yumeno in episode 28, the chemistry was stiff, but they were willing to work together on that.

As far as the past life thing... I mean, people have wildly different opinions on the merits of the past life story, depending on how you interpret the limited information and whether the concept sounds cool to you or not, but personally, my interpretation was that they were literally the same people as their past selves on a very basic level, to the point that I suspect Princess Serenity was also a klutz (we didn't see that much of her). Plus we have very little idea of their ages; Princess Serenity might've been older than 14. But regardless of how similar they were, the realization of their past life in episode 35 suggest to me that Usagi and Mamoru start remembering things about being Serenity and Endymion, gradually picking up where they left off in some sense. So I do think it's kind of a valid reason for them to be more romantic afterwards, even if it's kind of an outlandish fantasy concept.

Basically, I think they do kinda work together. It wasn't my single favorite thing in the show, but I did like their relationship. Although the breakup visions arc was kinda dodgy and contrived. The shift in Mamoru being nicer to Usagi seems like legitimate character development (even if it does reduce the fun quippy nature of things), being able to trust him reliably in S and SuperS is nice because it also feels like a form of progress (although, sadly, the Golden Kingdom backstory is so poorly expanded in SuperS that he doesn't get to do much), and the lingering feelings is one of my favorite things in Stars- that rooftop scene in particular, with Seiya's rose throwing and Usagi's reaction, is one of the most poignant moments in the show to me.
