Who's the better singer?

Kitagawa-san all the way. Ayaka-san can't sing. I'm sorry. I'm sure all of their voices have been digitally edited. In that event, Kitagawa-san's voice sounds pleasing anyway and Ayaka-san's sounds forced. She would benefit from opening her mouth more than the crack it usually does and using her diaphragm (as a choir teacher once told me). I cringed when Minako sang partially off-key to Usagi in Act 13. It's also very nasally annoying as well. They should've made anime Minako the idol, and live Minako the idol-aspiring-but-never-gets-it.

I also can't stand Ayaka's acting. I love Minako's new character, etc. But the acting, the singing? They've got to go. I do love the salon-happy diva transformation sequence though. Are those twirling sprites her hairdressers? I wish my hairdressers were nearly as cool.

I can't believe that I voted for her, but I chose Rei. She does have the better voice, but darnit, Minako is my absolute favorite!!!

Keiko-chan (my one and only) is a really good actor. So she might need a little work on the singing. It's only been 24 episodes into the series and she's only sung once.

I'm counting only the songs they released, so Keiko-chan has "Sakura Fubuki" while Ayaka-chan has "C'est la vie" and "Katagoshi no Kinsei."

As long as we have free-standing criticism, we shouldn't pound on them yet because they probably have more songs to come out with. For all I know, Keiko-chan could be the next Aguilera while Ayaka-chan the next Shania Twain. Personalities of Aguilera don't count, so don't be posting about how Keiko-chan could dress horribly like Aguilera does. I don't think she would, anyway.

I don't think any of the senshi are great singers, they can sing well, b/ not great. They really need to work at it. Still, I like their songs, and Sakura Fukubi still is pretty good in my mind.

That's exactly it. They both have the same problem of that they're singing from their throats and using no air support at all. Good singing always comes from the diaphragm and is shaped by the throat and mouth, not sourced from there. If they had some training in really pushing that air out properly, they wouldn't sound nearly as horribly strained. Honestly, when I hear both of them sing, it sounds like people singing at karaoke bars. They could very easily and very quickly improve under the guidance of your-average-voice-teacher; seriously, diaphragm support is lesson #1 and doesn't take terribly long to get even if you have only a smidgen of talent.

Kitagawa's voice sounds slightly better because her range is even smaller than Ayaka's in the song she was given, so we don't have an opportunity to hear her strain up even higher. But even judging from her song in that ONE moderate note she's got she couldn't even hit that, so probably giving her song such a tiny range was a good thing

Yea, I'm sorry, I'm harsh -- these girls are gorgeous, and they've definitely one upped me there. Call my criticism of their singing a jealous reaction :o
