It's painful to say this as a Crystal fan...but Usagi is much more loving and motherly to Chibiusa in R than in Season Two of Crystal and they drop and downplay the nonsensical jealousy subplot so when Black Lady accuses Usagi of having never loved her after Usagi has spent so much time growing close, protecting and caring for her it's a pretty hard gut punch.

for me is more better crystal manga than 90s, even though with that, i didnt like the break up, and chibi usa saying mamoru is his, and the usagi jealousy scaled more in the 90s than the manga, like only happen in that time, and usagi is not perfect like some said about manga usagi, the bad guys give me more reasons of their actions in the manga than the 90s, and the manga have some more backstory about pluto and her relationship with chibi usa and how chibi usa transform in sailor senshi

I disagree 100%.

Break up arc, Chibiusa is not as likable as in Crystal, Crystal season 2 feels far more mature.

But everyone is entitled to having their own opinion, of course.
That's the rub. In Crystal, Usagi acts unlikable, while in R, Chibiusa has a strange hostility towards Usagi that-admittedly-starts to go away. Like the curry episode where Chibiusa holds Usagi's hand then breaks away and gets mad at her. Just a weird scene, but not as weird as Usagi basically accusing Mamoru of pedophilia. ("She's still a woman!") No...no she is not.

The break-up plot was really not thought out, but I'm a big fan of expanding the Black Moon Clan's characterization.

Youalready made a similar tread and I gave you my opinion. While the villains are better developed in the 90s, the main cast, which is Usagi, Mamoru and Chibi Usa are done way better in Crystal.
I think Usagi was better in R as she didn't sound insane. Though for the Dark Kingdom and Death Busters Arc of Crystal I agree with you.

What 14 year old wouldn't act insane after everything she has been through, having suddenly a kid on top of it all? Usagi is 14, has tons of responsabilities and hell of a past. She acted way more insane in R. The worst Crystal moment was due to her beimg frustrated that Mamoru excludes her in the care of Chibi Usa.

But she's not just any random kid, that's the thing. She's always been shown as super loving and not extending that to a child, her own even if she doesn't know it, struck me as off.
People have flaws. Also PTSD. She didn't know who Chibi Usa was most lf the time. Once she showed up she started loosing her friends. She was loosing it all seemingly because of Chibi Usa. I can understand her way more than in the 90s. Also the final episodes were way better. Black Moon arc suffers because of the kidnap episodes

I couldn't disagree more. I think the second arc in Crystal with the black moon is so much better than the classic anime version. Yeah sure there is no time to expand story about the 4 sisters etc... but the last 4 episodes are so much better in Crystal (Pluto role, Demande, ChibiMoon appearing)...

Don't even let me start about Pluto in R, which was a total waste. And Chibi Usa is so much more likeable in Crystal than in the classic anime...

The only thing that R beats the manga/Crystal version in is the villains (well, except for Rubeus, Black Lady and Death Phantom/Wiseman). In everything else, The Black Moon arc is superior. There's no stupid break-up arc, Chibi-Usa is a well-developed and nuanced character who's reasons for turning evil are actually sympathetic, Pluto is actually involved and is developed as a character in her own right, the finale is better/more epic and emotional, how Chibi-Usa turns back is better, there's actual lore on Death Phantom/Nemesis and how Crystal Tokyo formed, Usagi gets substansial character development herself, basically everything is better!

The villains are quite weak though in comparison to R except for a select few, so if that's a deal-breaker for you R might be better. But if you're the type who only cares about the main cast and the plot, then Manga/Crystal Black Moon definitely beats out R.

Actually I re-watched recently the end of R, and the finale is really disappointing, I think probably the worst all seasons mixed.

Chibiusa is turning good again without any reason after few cries.... and WHERE IS SAILOR PLUTO?!?

And the last battle is boring, only interesting thing for me is to hear “La Soldier” during it (at least if you have the Japanese version because in France or Germany they had the good idea to cut the song so the battle is really lame with only sound effects).

“Your parents loved you and you mistook our wanting to give you independence for lack of caring”

and WHERE IS SAILOR PLUTO?!?
Doing her job I assume

It’s possible when Toei gave them the masters to dub over they took out the insert songs for some reason. They did that with Dragon Ball and most of the international versions are missing a bunch of insert songs.
