Well, they all are also technically Guardians of our Solar System, with Sailor Moon being the top tier guardian. I'd call the other Sailor Senshi Warriors of Soldiers. I mean they do and have gotten into some heavy battles. They also wear armor to protect their torso. Idk..lol I call them Guardians sometimes, Senshi at other times.

I watched the first season in Brazilian Portuguese and I heard the term luna warrior—or just warrior—a lot. This is because it sounds really odd to call them sailors in Portuguese. In the European Portuguese dub, they are called navigators (e.g. navigator of Mars) and this translation choice sounds really strange, in my opinion. To navigate, you need a ship or other form of transportation and they don’t have any.

Doesn't even the bad guys (Kunzite and Eduial) in Crystal refer to them as Sailor Senshi (Soliders) in the Crystal anime. I need to go back and watch but I dont remember then ever being called Sailor Guardians.

The Japanese version of both anime have always called them "Sailor Senshi". The only exceptions are I know of PGSM's title and Crystal's first opening "Moon Pride".

It's the recent dub, manga releases and official subtitles that have made the shift to guardian.

We mean the English translations. Some post-2000 Engrish songs aside, they have been always referred to as "senshi" in Japanese.

Actually, it was just "guerreiras" in the first season of the Brazilian dub. "Guerreira" is female for "warrior" in portuguese, and considering a team of female superheros was something quite new back then, "guerreiras" worked quite well in that context. It would fall flat in a redub, though.

They were Warrior Moon, Warrior Mercury, Warrior Mars...

Bad memory. Yes, in Season 1 of “Sailor Moon” they were called guerreiras, warriors. That dub was gold. I loved Usagi’s soft and sweet voice—so soothing and calm.

I remember watching “Magic Knight Rayearth“ also in Brazilian Portuguese, and although knight doesn’t mean the same as warrior I thought the term guerreiras mágicas, magical warriors, felt appropriate. I hated the dub, though. I am not too fond of the U.S. dub, either.

I also watched “Magic Knight Rayearth“ in Spanish and the actual title of the anime in Latin America was Las Guerreras Mágicas, ”The Magical Warriors.” They omitted Rayearth. It kinda makes sense because I don’t recall the characters saying the name Rayearth—I think the name Rayearth was something CLAMP came up with.
