Will there be shorts in front of the Dream movies?

With the Dream Arc being adapted into two theatrical movies, this would be a good opportunity to adapt some of the manga side stories into shorts and release them as part of the theatrical presentation. Do you think Toei will go for it? They have done so in the past with some of their PreCure movies. Which side stories do you think fit with the Dream Arc? Which ones would you like to see animated?

I love to see it.. Would they do it? Probably not, I really think they should have adapted some of the shorts into actually episodes for Crystal to give each Senshi something.
Then again...would adding a short cut down on the runtime of the actual movie? 15 minutes might not seem like a long time....

TOEI investing extra in SMC? I'm not expecting it. Would it be nice? For sure! I imagine it could cut down on the runtime of the movie BUT maybe it doesn't affect the movie, IF the script is good. We anyway won't get every single detail of the manga, so the task is, to tell the story with the relevant details.

Which side stories would make sense? Maybe they could make up an original story? Or, since Ami already got her special, give Rei a special too, maybe Casablanca Memory, but adapting it by replacing the irrelevant Dark Kingdom elements and adding Minako. It's a nice side-story, and quite "adult" I think. And I like the kinda unusual Rei x Makoto hanging out situation.

EDIT: and since we'll see Phobos and Deimos later in the movie, it could be a perfect way to establish them earlier.

EDIT: And it would be cute to have Luna again as a narrator.

Since Ami's First Love preceeded the SuperS movie, it would be fitting to adapt Mako's Melancholy before the first Dream film, and Rei and Minako's Girl School Battle before the second.

And that's exactly why it won't happen. Toei has proven time and time again they are incapable of doing anything remotely thoughtful or requiring care or passion. At this point I would be shocked if we even got one movie, let alone two with shorts.

Probably not plus they need to fill the extra film time with a series recap.

Maybe Toei is going to surprise us in a very positive way. The flaws of Crystal season 3 were (in my opinion) the character design and using the manga as a storyboard. ok, the animation could have been better, but besides that, they improved from season 1/2. for instance, they gave us 3 different endings (nobody was asking for). they also hired animators from the 90s anime. And maybe Kazuko Tadano is stirring it up a bit. Actually, I can imagine, TOEI, after so much bad critique, they wanna deliver this time a good product, that can compete with what they did in the 90s.

They need as much time as possible to adapt the manga properly, so I doubt there will be any shorts. Maybe in the form o OVA for the blu ray release, though I really doubt it.

The success of the movies could possibly have them re-adapted for a series with them as fillers (both those side stories and new material) like DBS. That is if TOEI and Naoko wants to.
I think they are setting up for the other way around. Testing the movie format, do redo the previous arcs as films if it proves successful.

That would be interesting. Hopefully the TOEI executives will be flexible this time and let the director have more freedom.

The movie format done right might have a nice way adapting the manga and including the darker parts as well. The pacing would fit a movie much better than a tv show with some stuff rearranged slightly altered

While I think that would be great, I don't think it will happen. But anyway, I posted in another thread my vision of a Dark Kingdom movie script:

The Dark Kingdom arc as a movie could start with Moon, Mars and Mercury already teamed up together and retelling how they met in flashback scenes. In superhero movies, like X-men, we also don't see every detail about the characters on screen, but we can still build a connection with them, based on how they get introduced to the audience. And SM-fans anyway know already who the characters are.
So I would give the movie in 3-part-structure and the first could begin with some action at the masquerade ball where the sailors fight the possessed princess and Nephrite. Then we get some introduction/exposition as the next day we see Usagi running to school being super late, and here we get a proper introduction to her and the story: we get some flashbacks of how Usagi met Luna and became SM and how she met the two other senshi and how they killed some Youma and Jedite. Then she almost gets hit by a car but Makoto rescueing her. At school we get to know Ami and maybe Luna, and also Makoto, following the act 5. By the end of part 1 Makoto becomes Sailor Jupiter (I think it's important to show one of those moments when a senshi gets born, but there's no need to see it 4 times) and Moon gets her new wand (climax 1). Part 2/3 combines the acts around Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask and by the end of it we would be meeting Sailor V(enus) combined with the revelation on the Moon princess and the kidnapping of Mamoru by Queen Beryl (climax 2 and plot twist). Then they go to the Moon and learn about their past. And as they come back to earth already starts the plot around the final battle vs. Metallia (climax 3/crisis/resolution).
The 90s movies have a runtime of 60 minutes. This one needs 90 minutes, 30 minutes for each part.

It is good. I had idea of Dark Kingdom as well. It would start with the battle with Kunzite. Tuxedo Mask gets hurt, abd has his memory returned with some flashbacks of Usagi and Serenity. Cutting to Sailor Moon transformation into princess Serenity. The girls and the cats are in aw. Then Luna says "Of course I should have known" and then in flash back we will have act one from the point of view of Luna following Usagi secretly and basically the whole first act from Luna's point of view. Then we have a close up to Ami beibg like "Yes, the princess never let me feel lonely'' followed by act 2 from Ami' s point of view. Then Rei and Mako. Minako will say" I knew it was him" and her flash back will be act 6, 7 and her own. Framed how she was following Mamoru in secret. By making every flashback from the complete pov of another character will make it feel different, and will flash them out more. Finally Usagi will hace a flashback of Mamoru moments and act 4 Masquarade. The movie will end with Mamoru being kidnapped and Usagi's scream. The second movie will play similarly to the secobd portion of the nanga, but with more intense final battle. The begining will put more emphasis in Usagi identity crysis and the relationship and interaction between the girls would be fleshed out through it. Overall the second oart of every story arc can be adapted without much changes needed.

If they ever make a Dark Kingdom movie I'd much rather they do something original instead of just adapting the manga again. The CGI Saint Seiya movie was a hot mess but I appreciate it for at least trying to do a different take on the old story.

If they do a Dark Kingdom movie, then I already know that after the introductions of Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, and Venus, they'll STILL get shafted while out of focus (like in the Manga and Crystal) and primarily focus on Moon and Tuxedo still anyway, at least the way Toei is going.

Well, it is still 5 arcs of one coherent story and not all the arcs can be focused of every one of the characters. It would have been just fine if they sprinkled the short stories here and there. The fact Kotono will be in an USA event in May gives me hope for some news. I just wana see these new designs. I can wait ages, if I see these characters finally looking right.

It hasn’t been long since Crystal adapted the Dark Kingdom arc, and the reception was lukewarm at best. I can’t see them touching that arc until another 10-20 years where the story is less fresh in people’s minds.

Though to be honest, I would much rather a fresher take on the arc, instead of having the manga rehashed again.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment like everyone else did over Anime Matsuri last year.

If there's any news I highly doubt it'll be through her at a US convention.

We got news back then. They said they started working on the script. It is something. What I am more hoping for is Toei to reveal something by that time, so Kotono will have something to tell.
