Will we ever get new character designs again?

*bumping this thread because it's as good a place as any to have this discussion*

So, recently there's been some discussion over in the Season 4 movies update thread comparing the handling of Crysternal to that of PreCure. Among other things, it's been suggested that PreCure has more funding behind it because it's essentially one big toy commercial, and if a future Sailor Moon reboot is to be successful and/or get a worthy budget behind it, it needs to have more merchandising potential.

I took a look at some of PreCure's tie-in merchandise, and it's not really anything that Sailor Moon hasn't done before: brooches, compacts, pens, wands, crystal gems, swords, mirrors, harps, tambourines, flip phones, computers, jewelry. Thus I think there's still merchandise potential in Sailor Moon's existing items and characters (albeit with some design tweaks to make them at least superficially different), especially those that haven't been merchandised before due to their omission from the '90s anime.

What I would do:

--- Make Phobos and Deimos main characters from the start so they could be sold as plush toys, figurines, key chains, etc. (Give them different colored eyes and distinctive feather patterns so collectors will want to get both)
--- Make the weapons sentient (I know people don't like that element of the Dream arc, but I think it allows for more opportunity for imaginative play, and giving the items unique personalities that kids can get attached to may make them more interested in buying the toys. Also, this allows for the series to jump on the moe anthropomorphism trend by creating humanoid versions of the items)
--- Include the Sailor Power Guardians early on (fairy mascot characters seem to be popular in PreCure, and that's pretty much what the SPG are); include Moon Fairy Diana (maybe call her Phoebe instead?)
--- Give Mercury her harp and Mars her arrow from the jump. Wreaths and belts aren't terribly appealing toys, so I'd give Jupiter a hammer and Venus her magic microphone instead. (An umbrella for Mercury and a fan for Mars could work too.)

These concepts are impressive!
