At present, I can't preview nor submit my typed PM - it doesn't respond & then time-out after I've hit the button. I've never experienced that here before - has anyone got the same problem?

Most probably so. Wait for a while and try again.

It's not urgent - will PM you again later. I've encountered the same problem once on another forum (it's run on a different forum system, tho), & the problem disappeared on the next day.

@Mara: I still can't PM you ATM - actually I think I can't perform the functions of any of the 4 buttons (Submit, Preview, Save, & Cancel). It just takes forever until it time-out. I'm very curious - my guess: could it be that something (some parameters, vital system data, etc.?) in the forum system was held up or corrupted during our exchange of PMs before that, as I've no problems in PM'ing Rose?

No, as far as I know. I have made a test account "utonberino" (password: password). Try to log in with it and send me a PM to see if it will work.

So it's my problem - I still can't PM you w/ that dummy a/c. The last & only other time I experienced this same problem (on another forum) I was using another computer, so it might even have nothing to do w/ my hardware - could be problems in my net connection (wifi, etc.)?

I'm gonna delete my internet temp files to see if it'd help.

That's what the logic suggests. I sent a PM to myself (to Maraviollantes account) with that test account, and it worked quite fine. Could be also related to your firewall/proxy/Tor if you have something like that (I remember a while ago somebody else was using web proxy to access this forum, and they couldn't send PMs because of that).

Nope, I haven't used proxy, nor have I changed any system/security settings myself. And the curious thing is that I can send PM to Rose. Another curious thing is that during that last time I've such problem, I couldn't email him (who, incidentally, was also an admin) either - it just hanged up!

The deletion of my internet temp files doesn't help at all, so what I can do now is to hope that the problem would disappear itself in due course, like the last time, tho it didn't take this long back then. *sigh*

@Mara: Since I don't wanna spam you w/ any more test PMs, & I also hope some other forum members could provide some inputs, I'm posting it here instead of PM'ing you anymore.

I've splitted the PM, which I've sent you unsuccessfully, into two parts & sent them separately, & both have been sent successfully. The 1st part contains the text of my reply message, & the 2nd part contains the quoted text of your previous PM I replied to.

After that, I've re-combined those two parts & tried to send it to you, & it failed in the same way again.

Any ideas? Some hidden control characters?

I have combined those two parts you sent to me, and sent them to you with the title "test #5689385 - did I combine them correctly?" Was delivered without any problems.

I've conducted the experiment you suggested, & it narrows down to the word "from" ("fro" works but "from" doesn't) - the letter "m" is hardly a control character.

After a day, I've done another test by just deleting that "m" (i.e. all of the text following it is kept) & it works, too. l o l

My speculation: that innocent looking "m" character might've some hidden stuff attached or act as a pointer to something that offends the system in some way. Of course, I dunno what exactly it is, not to mention why it's there, & don't have the time to diagnose it.

The whole text of that PM seems to work on another forum, tho I've just hit the preview button over there & didn't actually send it (I suppose it can be sent w/o problems, tho).

Since there are other m's in the text, maybe it matters only when that m is used to form the word "from"? :3

Good guess, & you're right - when I try to reply w/ only the word "from" while quoting your previous PM, it still doesn't work (it works when I reply w/ "m", "om", or "rom"), but it works even w/ "from" when I don't quote your PM.

Now we know the behaviors/"rules" of the bug, but still dunno the hows/whys.
