That does seem rather incongruous, doesn't it? Although I am not usually inclined to curse myself, I don't have a problem with it and I don't see why it matters whether forum members curse or not. If we're old enough to share and discuss pornographic content, then it should stand to reason that we are mature enough to handle a bit of profanity.

It's not like I have a problem with not curseing it is just weird that we can post porn but we can't curse.

Yeah, I know. I'm agreeing with you. :)

Yes, that's true. That doesn't mean it actually makes sense, though. ^_^'

Dear lord, you people can't even post in a thread about RULE BREAKING without bickering with each other?!

Take your private problems to PM or receive a warning. This is your last chance - as of tomorrow the gloves are coming off. Either learn to play nice with each other or take your leave.

I'm laughing at the fact that people are trying to bring reason to an internet forum. On top of that an Anime forum, which usually bring more heat than the average one.

The sad fact is, we were all doing fine until all this started to happen. But no, the fuse has been lit and it seems the explosions have yet to come.

 Key word there being grown adults. I don't see a problem with questioning rules when they seem unreasonable or unnecessary. I'm not going to argue over it - if the mods feel that it is necessary then so be it - but I do think it's a little ridiculous that members can't express their opinions in a topic which openly welcomes questions and comments about forum rules without being met with derisive remarks like this.

Actually, I remember a time when there was order to this forum. You know, when people actually got banned for breaking rules. Change is a good thing. Order is a good thing.

Unless it's unreasonable reasons for such. I admit the place is a little crazy....but this is just pathetic now.

It's more due to the fact that the "rule" is rather childish and unnecessary, and belittling actually. Plus I just hate censorship.

You're jumping to conclusions Yen.

Edit: and if you want to bring "order" then ban the trolls. Simple.

Right, but it's not like it's a new rule. It's a rule that's been in place for quite a long time now, a rule that I actually have had a few warnings on myself, actually. The fact that it's gone on for so long without being called out on is evidence this place needs some control and moderation. Those were the rules they agreed to when they all signed up. If they had a problem with it, why not bring it up at the beginning? But they didn't, and they (and myself) have just decided to break it whenever without consequence, up until now.

Just because no one questioned it at the beginning doesn't mean you can't question it now.

I'm laughing at the fact that some of you are followers and don't have your own opinion. Sorry that just pissed me off. No offence that very ignorant f you Roman, bullying should not be tolerated anywhere, plus this is a community, they have a right to bring reasoning in. And no, everything wasn't fine before all of this. There was a whole a lot of drama before this incident and I'm not going to call them out, because I don't want to cause more trouble upon myself.

Did you ever think some people are bothered by swear words? I mean, it's easy enough for people to avoid the hentai forum, but what about when someone starts dropping derogatory words in the SM general discussion forum? That the excessive swearing may actually be turning off potential members? Look, I understand where you're coming from, I have to work on it too...

Not being allowed to swear isn't censorship. Not being allowed to have a certain opinion is censorship. There's a difference.

Plus, you're "freedom of speech" is only protected on public on government venues, not someone's personal website.

Although I enjoy cursing (my school newspaper recently quoted me cursing a storm....it was less than impressive >_>), I like the fact that there will be more strictly enforced rules about cursing on this forum.

The truth is, you can't ever be sure which words are going to offend people. There are people who honestly do not like being around cursing, and since this is a public forum, it needs to be as friendly to as many people as possible. I wouldn't go so far as to, say, make it against the rules to use ableist terms....but I think it's reasonable to ask people not to curse.

Instead of censorship, I consider it a creative exercise to express myself in different ways. =3

I also think it's a bit self-defeating to think, "Well, this is an Internet forum, and one about an anime at that. Crazy stuff happens and we should just let it all be." That's like saying, "The world is a terrible place, so why bother making murder illegal?" Granted, that's a very stretched out analogy, but it's all I got right now.

Words depend on context. If it's used in a "derogatory" fashion ans is basically flaming then yeah, that's flaming.

Words by themselves are meaningless. It's context that matters. And if anyone is really bothered by a word in and of itself then I just don't know what to say to them. It's silly and it's childish.

You are right, and I do agree that if it is a rule, it should be enforced. However, regardless of the reason, it has been brought up now - and I think it is something worth at least questioning. I would assume that cursing is against the rules to protect younger members. I can think of no other reason why it would be. However, it seems that most of the active members here are adults and as Maria pointed out, there is an entire section dedicated to pornographic content. To me, and apparently several others, this particular rule seems pointless.

Not just bullying but wrong doings in general. I'm not saying I haven't done them, but the mods have a right to make rules in order to keep this forum safe, which very ironic of me to say right now ^_^' . You're not ignorant, your comment was.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's possible to add a script to make the hentai forum inadmissible to minors. (Since they have to put their birthday in when they sign up), and like I said, people bothered by porn can avoid the hentai section. People bothered by swear words shouldn't be expected to not join in discussions about Sailor Moon.

Anyway, people of all ages and backgrounds should be welcomed here, and we shouldn't make this an uncomfortable place because of unnecessary profanity.

Honestly, you're not being censored, you're just being asked to speak tastefully.

Oh, yeah and I find it petty that you all are complaining about censorship; However I do agree that it wouldn't hurt much as long if it's not used out of context.

This doesn't really apply to cursing, but lots of words are loaded with years and years of historical context. To bring cursing into it, it's very possible for curse words to be triggering for some people.

Yes, lots of people get offended too easily, but I don't think "too bad" is the right way to go about it. The right thing to do is to try to not offend others. I realize that that's impossible to completely accomplish, but I also feel that the journey is more important than the destination, and therefore efforts to do the right thing are more important than whether or not the goal is feasibly attainable.

Why offend people when it's better not to?

I guess I find this argument somewhat baffling because we cannot control what we hear in normal day-to-day conversations - nor should we expect to. I don't often curse myself, but I am not fazed by it in the least because I have become so accustomed to hearing curse words from other people and in entertainment. I'm somewhat surprised that this is an issue for some people, but of course, you are entitled to your opinion. I'll agree to disagree.

But does cursing necessarily make it that much better? I would think that what makes this place great is its amount of discussion on Sailor Moon, not on whether or not cursing is a thing.
