I was told by someone that Adultswim had been airing sailor moon reruns around three in the morning, and I was thinking since the manga is being rereleased and that its back on that we might get a stars season with someone with new rights who will release it without cutting anything out of it?

Not before USA changes its attitude towards Sailor Moon and starts thinking it as a serious anime show instead of a kids' program.

Sailor Stars has been dubbed in its entirety, just not into the English language. There were some fandubs that got a few episodes done though.

@Usapon
It is a kids show.

I don't think fandubs count.

I know I just meant in English and the person who told me wasn't very familiar with sailor moon but seen my shirt and said she had been watching it very early in the mornings. It did sound kinda fishy though because I didn't see a big announcement about it anywhere. I do hope they do rereleases on all the dvds and movies too.

I think it's funny when people still say things like, "Sailor Moon is a serious anime! It's not for kids!"

Haha well I would still like to see it happen though. Sailor moon is more fitting to watch than half the crap on tv these days anyway!

Speaking from experience, your friend probably thinks ALL anime is "Sailor Moon"

My mom and several people around me would say that to me all the time. I'd pop in a new anime to watch (Tenchi, Yu Yu Hakusho etc) and they'd all say "Don't you get tired of that Sailor Moon?"

Your friend probably saw some anime and thought it was Sailor Moon for the same reason lol

I don't think releasing Sailor Moon is a "serious anime" is too much of a stretch. Almost all anime geared toward girl is meant for kids, yet it gets for older audiences here. It'd be nice to see StarS released, but I'm kind of doubting anyone over here will get the rights to the anime...

If Sailor Moon gets marketed to a strictly older-crowd, whatever company licenses probably will never be able to earn their licensing investment back. If they're smart, they're market it to a general audience. Make it friendly for the kiddies but engaging for an older audience as well.

Because, as Yen said, they wouldn't make back the cost of getting the rights to it. Sailor Moon really needs to be on the air for them to make their money back.

Naoko is charging an arm and a leg to license the anime and she wants it handled with the utmost care.

I can't say I blame her... I mean why would she want to let anyone else screw it up and water it down?

Darlings, firstly, I'd appreciate if you quoted me so I'd actually see that you wanted to give me a respond. Secondly, what I mean is that Americans tend to treat every anime as a Western animated series - they're all made for kids. With Japanese manga and anime that is not true, since anime and manga are made for both kids and adults alike. Maybe it's a little like Vilhelm said:

Vilhem wrote:

And if you really think up to Stars and Super, I wouldn't say they're specially kid-friendly. Especially Stars, towards the end, can be very frightening for children, and it's not like all the kids understand it. Sailor Moon-series has a lot deeper meanings and I think it's one of those series that you can watch all over again and always find new meanings and dimensions from.

If you think about Yotsuba&!, for example, I don't think Sailor Moon Stars is a kids' show after all. :P I'd say it's for teens or pre-teens.

I'm not talking about slapping an R- or PG-13-rating to it, I'm talking about how SM gets treated like an all grown up teen that is being pampered like a two year old. People need to get over the first season that was much lighter and humour-filled (and Usagi was still a kid herself) and realize that SM is more than that. :P

Oh lord, please no.

I don't want to see Stars dubbed by any other company other than Funimation. I've seen tons of Funimation dubs and they were great.

But overall, I don't really want it dubbed. America would just ruin the whole thing, especially the ending and the Starlights. I think its a too serious arc to be childised and ruined just like all the other dub arcs.

Well, I mean, right now, the manga is being sold with a big fat 13+ label on it. I get that there's a few instances of disturbing imagery in it (One big one I remember is Nehelenia's illusion in volume 15 of the original tankubon, where she made the Sailor Soliders imagine the skin was melting off their bones), but come on, really now. They couldn't bump it down to say, like 10+? I'm pretty sure that's the age bracket of Nakayoshi anyway.

Honestly, I'm not sure why everyone is so insistent Stars could only be dubbed if the show appealed to an older audience. It's aired in other countries that censored the show, it's not hard. We already know other companies wanted to dub it the last time the license was in the US. People insisted for years we'd never get anything past R because of Haruka and Michiru and all the religious overtones, but walah, we got kissing cousins and the Ambassador of Goodness. A bit of silly dialog and some cheap CG and boom, you've got guys summoning their identical twins to fight for them and Sailor Moon and Galaxia flying around in space bikinis. Come ON, we got TENCHI to run in a kids timeslot. The OVAs even! The stuff that was actually adult material?

I don't WANT a hacked dub, but I honestly don't see how they couldn't use some sly editing to get a TV release. The real problem is that it's a bitch to run anime on kids television right now, period, so I don't know who take on the Sailor Moon license.

I would be okay if they just changed their genders to all-female as Naoko originally intended them to be (At least just for a TV Edited version).

That would be BRILLIANT.

Although it might be weird on the (unedited) DVDs when we see them shirtless. =/

Do what Dragon Ball Kai did and make the unedited DVDs have an accurate vocal track and have a TV Edited vocal track as well.

Seiya could play it off as social pressure due to the fact she's masquerading around as a man in disguise. Or remove the flirting all together.

*Keep in mind I'm only making suggestions for a TV edited vocal track. For an uncut DVD release, I expect the vocal track to be accurate to the original script.

For an American tv dub, I think a good compromise could be:

Give them male voices

cut the transformation sequence to just where they say "Star power make up" etc

Have some cheesy story about how their sisters/cousins/mothers/whatever female counterpart gets summoned in their place

Not sure how the Mexican dub got away with it haha. They took it one step further from the JP version and used actual deep male voices for their civilian identities, then female voice actors for the starlights after transformation l o l

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T6Wih0fdQY

If only in America... :x
