why did the most iconic part of Sailor Moon only get fully revamped in its fourth season?

seriously compare the shots: the first three seasons are versually unchanged outside of small specifics, in Sailor Moon R is was her locket, in Sailor Moon S it was her tiara stone, chocker and locket, SailorStars went back to the classed footage but retooled it to make Serena look older (she goes from 14 to 16 throughout the series) but in essence its still the original footage, only retooled. the only way normal sailor moon got different footage was when they shoehorned that pink devilspawn into the speech. as can be seen in the picture.

its such a jump from the low budget version they were using since day 1, going from matte colors, and rounder to more angular and shiney (as if the costume went from cotton to satin and they suddenly used high quality hair stuff, since even thier HAIR is reflective. even sailormoon looks older than she should, she looks at least 18 there, and shes meant to be 15. Rini at least looks her age, which i assume is supposed to be around, 10 or 11 and yea sure sailormoon was low budget when it first came out, but if they could afford to draw and create new episodes every season, cant they afford to make one new sequence for each season? especially for the iconic part?

what bugs me the most of how serena jumps from looking like a 14 year old, to looking 18, then back to looking around 16. like they couldnt gradually age her in the "i am sailormoon" footage visually each season >.>
im pretty sure they could, but noo they had to make that stupid dinosaur episode or change the starlights into transexuals to forget to bother with gradually aging a character through stock footage

screenshots from allans uploads :D

i'll direct you to me facebook post about the same thing, stupid picture limits

I think they were trying to incorporate Naoko's artwork. As an artist I think Ikuhara wanted to try something different also.

A different bone: There were many servants shown from the dark kingdom, in the day of destiny, and Beryl was like: The sailors are attacking, so I'll send a couple, and the rest will twiddle their thumbs. Why didn't she resort to the ages old Zerg Rush strategy (and there WERE tyranids by the time SM was made), and win easily?

The number 1 villain cliche: if you out number your enemy by a vast amount, only use one minion at a time!

I don't exactly see what the problem is?

Stars is explained by it being a completely different production, with different animation directors (if I'm not mistaken).

SuperS really tried to incorporate the "Double Moon" thing from the manga, and I'm pretty sure they probably had a bigger budget by then, but I wouldn't know for sure.

Yeah I'm not seeing what exactly the issue is. ^_^; I don't see her as going from 14 to 18 to 16....I see her going from 14 to 15 to 16....l o l. In fact, one of the things I love about SuperS is how it's visually different from the earlier 3 seasons, for exactly these reasons.

I swear, sometimes I just have no idea what you're talking about in your posts. Just saying. I mean...Zerg Rush strategy? I have no idea what that means. Tyranids? I mean, I'm pretty sure you're just referring to another fandom...but I gotta say, it's like you're speaking another language, l o l.

But to answer: then the Dark Kingdom would have won. And that's no fun.

If all the villains were sent at once than Minako would have used the indirect approach to have whittled away their numbers to nothing.

Can you explain it to me Minako fan? All that Venus was shown to know is to fire a single target laser beam. I know she had a lot more in the Sailor V manga.

As for Zerging/Zerg rushing: It is a tactic that uses massed disposable weak units to defeat a stronger opponent. Since the youma are shown as disposable, using five has been an improvement (DD girls, and their success showed the effectiveness of such a strategy), imagine if it was not five, but fifty, or five hundred. Or simply everyone in the dark kingdom went out to hunt for the sailors! What a drama could it have been: Evading the search parties, sneaking into the castle, the inners making a last stand while Sailor Moon confronts Beryl and the corrupted Endymion...

In that way the Dark Kingdom could have been portrayed as less stupid than it is now.

now i want that to happen for the new series >.<

my main problem is what make them not be able to create new footage for the punish speech for every season, gradually aging usagi along with the rest of the seasons art? like sure, episode one usagi looks like shes 14 and episode 200 usagi looks 16, so i like how throughout the five years of realtime the series took she does gradually age mentally and visually. theres no real excuse not to for the two seasons after classic, yea its the same costume with season specific changes so it could save money, but still, there was no reason to not make new footage for R and S, for that one scene. the manga thankfully didnt use one panel over and over and thats one thing i hope the new anime will do.

Why wasn't Stars dubbed in English? Censorship and controversy over content couldn't have been the only reason.
