"Madman Entertainment are thrilled to announce the acquisition of SAILOR MOON – one of the most beloved and iconic anime series ever made – for distribution in Australia and New Zealand on DVD, Blu-ray and digital platforms.

"Not only will the arrangement see the release of all 200 episodes of the original series along with the three feature films and additional specials, but also the previously unavailable series SAILOR MOON S, SAILOR MOON SUPER S and SAILOR MOON SAILOR STARS.

"The uncut and uncensored release of SAILOR MOON will feature its original un-cropped 4:3 aspect ratio, along with all original Japanese character names, story elements and relationships, as well as an all-new uncut English dub with a new voice cast.

"The first 12 episodes of SAILOR MOON will premiere on AnimeLab.com on November 28, with subsequent episodes from season 1 and other seasons (SAILOR MOON R, SAILOR MOON S, SAILOR MOON SUPER S and SAILOR MOON SAILOR STARS) to follow throughout 2015

"The smash hit SAILOR MOON anime series is inspired by the bestselling manga series created by Naoko Takeuchi and tells the story of Usagi Tsukino, a clumsy but kind-hearted teenage girl who transforms into the powerful guardian of love and justice, Sailor Moon. Meeting allies along the way who share similar fates, Usagi and her team of planetary Sailor Guardians fight to protect the universe from forces of evil and total annihilation.

"SAILOR MOON will also receive a deluxe DVD and Blu-Ray release at a date to be determined in 2015. Further details of these deluxe releases will be revealed in the near future.

"Finally, in addition to the original series, Madman is also very proud to announce the acquisition of brand new series, SAILOR MOON CRYSTAL – which will begin streaming on AnimeLab.com from November 28, as well as receive a disc release at a yet to be determined date."

It is not known at this point if Madman will be using the material that Viz has already produced or if they will be giving the show their own separate treatment.

Madman isn't dubbing company. It's a DVD distributor. They make and sell DVDs for existing shows and movies. They don't work on the shows and movies themselves.

Australia and New Zealand actually and yeah probably.

Also Europe is a collection of separate countries with their own languages and licensing companies so selling one set to all of them would be hard.

Lovely.
The guys down under get the DVD.

And we British are still no closer to a release.

Sigh.

Nope.

I had to get my DVD from America. My laptop can play different regions.

It's probably only a matter of time before Manga Entertainment picks it up for the UK. Madman will probably use Viz's materials and possibly even the same discs, but with the Viz logo swapped for Madman's. That's what they usually do. Their discs are often recycled for Manga UK as well.

And no, there will be no new dub. They're using Viz's dub and basically have the same license Viz has. This is actually big news for them since Australia has only previously gotten the DiC dub of Classic and R on DVD (with DVDs pretty much identical to ADV's). Unlike the US though, Australia has the series back through their old licensor (Madman). For the UK, I'm pretty sure it will be Manga UK now instead of MVM Entertainment (especially since MVM's DVDs of the DiC dub flopped, they probably don't want to touch the series with a 10-foot-pole. Interestingly, they are the only country to get BOXSETS of the DiC dub).

Both Europe & Australia are Region B so there's a reason to import the Blu-ray sets if nobody has the patience to wait for Kaze to pick them up.

As for those in Australia looking to buy on DVD, do they still convert the video to PAL? If so then I would worry because of BS like this.

No, most releases are NTSC these days. Thats why Manga UK doesn't work with Madman as much as they used to.

Good thing your laptop can play different regions then ! If AU/NZ is getting the DVD how long is it going to take England ?

Madman are pretty good when it comes to packaging so I'm expecting something better than the US effort.

Are you sure on that, Sera-V? Go look at http://www.madman.com.au/, and look at their boxarts...then go to amazon.com and search the same titles.

I did...not any different, except replacing FUNi or Viz with Madman's logo. :(

It does depend on whether they are given the freedom to change the artwork though. The licensor (Viz) may request they use the exact same designs, so in some cases the artwork is identical. However, take a look at the Studio Ghibli releases:

AU: http://www.studioghibli.com.au

compared to:

US: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=studio+ghibli

Considering the low quality of the Blu-Rays I see no reason to pick them up, not matter what the region code is. The picture quality of the Viz Blu-Rays is worse than the other countries DVDs.

Allow me to point you to a fine example of Madman having superior DVD art than a U.S. release.

Here is the art for Madman's release of three Japanese Transformers series:
http://s28.postimg.org/3v3vm6nwt/100105 ... 9_f0_0.jpg
http://s28.postimg.org/uucbv2zrh/1000x1000.jpg
http://s28.postimg.org/rc0byoyvh/kinopo ... 267163.jpg

And here is the art for the U.S. releases of those same three series:
http://s28.postimg.org/fbevxyrgt/f8c9e59bb7c3.jpg
http://s28.postimg.org/a19x6o77x/BZXq_O.jpg
http://s28.postimg.org/cjvm7csy5/0000000039892.jpg

The Madman ones look epic and utilize a greater amount of characters in a dynamic action scene, while the U.S. ones are minimalistic and use only two characters from each, not conveying the same level of excitement as the Madman ones.

The Studio Ghibli and Transformers releases are handled by Disney and Shout! Factory respectively in the US. The Manga UK and Madman AU releases of FUNi and Viz shows are usually identical to the US releases, but with different logos/region coding, and maybe slightly different packaging (same design though).

To be honest US DVD box art in general is simplistic.

Compare these DVD covers.

MLP FIM: season 1 original US box art.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/My-Little-Pony- ... y+season+1

Now here's the UK version.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Pony--co ... y+season+1

Even Doctor Who had this.

Here's the original UK version for series 6:

Here's the US version:

Once again, those aren't FUNi or Viz, and won't give us an idea for what to expect. :P MLP: FiM is on DVD in the US through Shout! Factory and the UK by Clear Vision (and in AU by Madman), same with Doctor Who having completely different circumstances.

I guess Jerome Mazandarani's balls are spared from the door then heh.

(Actually, Jerome stepped down left Manga Entertainment a little more than two weeks ago according to ANN. Hope he didn't let the door hit him on the way out. xD)

Nice to see that some region 2/B-countries will get the Viz set(?)

I'm still hoping to finally see the entire Swedish dub released on DVD/Blu-Ray/Heck any format, Plus Licens even reacquired the rights for Sailor Moon here back in 2011, but so far nothing has happened. This is some good news at least.

I'm getting the Aussie videos, just like I did with "Sailor Stars". I hate how Viz runs their business in the Americas, and the less money I have to give them the better. The shipping will be a tad higher, but that's it.

I'm a self hater; I prefer any other English speaking developed country except for the USA.

Hang on, you know it's going to be the same over there as it is here right? Same dub, same subs, same quality (confirmed above), everything but with different region codes.
