Its nice to see SM so high on both lists. I guess Sailor Moon isnt as forgotten in Japan as we'd think

It's my understanding that there's still a lot of nostalgic love for Usagi but it doesn't always translate into financial support. Which makes sense given most Moonies are older now with jobs and families and probably don't have as much time to invest in the franchise as younger fans do. But I'm glad to see Sakura Kinomoto outperforming Asuna from SAO on this poll!

Thats good that they haven't forgotten Sailor Moon. It will always be a classic that should be known throughout the decades as time goes on. Both lists were great, but the Heisei era one was the one I liked the most, since I like and know most of the characters.

Cure Whip... seriously? She is not a bad character, but in my opinion she is the typical protagonist. of a Magical Girl show. Anyway I am glad Sailor Moon is still popular in Japan, I hope she will always be remembered

I'm more surprised Sofia the First was number 18. What happened to the Japanese popularity of Frozen?

Goku at the top of both lists and Rei Ayanami out-charting Asuka? can't say I'm surprised, Japan always had good taste
Mildly surprised that Mercury was nowhere to be seen, as I always had the impression she was more popular than Usagi in Japan.

That was a poll done of NHK viewers so it was naturally going to skew to NHK anime more than a poll aimed at a more generalized demographic like this one is.

It also covers a large variety of works over many decades, anime & tokusatsu alike. :)
