My reaction is no way, I can't believe they did that. Also, I think the male staff just decided since the anime was ending to just go all out and do something crazy. XD

I'd already known about it ahead of time, having read up beforehand on the reasons why Sailor Stars never got released in the U.S. back when Super and SuperS originally were, so there was no surprise for me in regards to Usagi's final form.

My memory is a bit sketchy on Stars. But I remember the ending and I went wow. I need to see it again so I hope Viz will keep going rereleasing all the seasons.

i felt awkward because of the violence, nudity etc (at the age of 12 i guess)
didn't see that episode on TV and the first time I saw it on the net,i felt sad because i was binge watching sm and it's the final :(
some years later i read the manga, and thought that anime finale is better than the manga one.Now i wanna watch it again :mischief:

Well, my first thought didn't go to the barbie-doll-esque nudity if that's what you're asking XD But while we're on the subject, they already did that aaaaaaaaaaall the way back in episode 51 right before Usagi got the Cutie Moon Rod from Queen Serenity, and again in episode 151 when Ami got her new attack (the weird scene where she falls through a watery dreamscape as a naked Ami and talks to a separate Sailor Mercury). And maybe some other times I've forgotten. I think it goes on the longest in episode 200, but they didn't really show any more anatomy than they had previously, since Usagi inexplicably seems to lack certain features.

But also I'd already heard about that part in advance and wasn't surprised, so not much of a reaction there either.

I first watched the last 8 or so episodes of Sailor Stars all in one day, since they all end in cliffhangers that lead right into the next one, and the part that really slammed me in the face was episode 197/198, with what Haruka and Michiru did. By which I mean
Spoiler: show
Joining Galaxia, albeit in the vague hope of defeating her in a way that didn't even work because they don't understand these things, and going so far as to effectively kill Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn.

I was like "Whoa, I can't believe they actually went that route! IT'S PERFECT! That makes so much sense with how things have gone all this time! Oh man!" And then the rainbow sparkly thing reminded me of Nephrite (and Saphir's jacket). Episode 198 is one of my favorites, actually. It was a bold story choice that made a lot of sense, but was still shocking.

It also kinda makes me think the Outers might have less team cohesion than the untainted Sailor Animamates might've, especially if half-healed Tin Nyanko is in any indicator as to what their true selves were really like. (For that matter, half-healed Tin Nyako is another favorite moment of mine.) Especially Lead Crow and Alluminum Siren, obviously, as they've got a Zoisite/Kunzite-esque dynamic going on.

If you ever somehow brainwashed Usagi and Mamoru onto the same evil (and therefore backstabby/cold and distant) villain team, I'm sure they'd be lovingly insulting each other and helping with each others evil operations, too. And Mamoru would keep rescuing Usagi (heck, he already did that when he worked for the Dark Kingdom). Eventually Usagi would fail Beryl or whoever for the last time, and then Mamoru would take the killing blow meant for her. (Also, the Earth would probably be destroyed if any of that ever happened.)

But episode 200, specifically? I was more confused about Chibi Chibi's true nature than I expected to be by the end. I liked Usagi's forgiveness of Galaxia, and talking her down out of fighting. I always like seeing Mamoru in Prince Endymion form. I like the final conversation with the Starlights as they leave. I'm glad they put Moonlight Densetsu right at the end, that was neat.

The final closing shot, with the feather floating on the water... did that look like the stone ponds in Silver Millennium to anyone else, kind of evoking the second intro sequence from back in season 1? A very artistically intriguing thought, to me at least.

All in all, 200 was a good episode and I have no real complaints, but it's not really at the top of my favorites list. For that I'd go with 24 (Nephrite's last episode), 26 (Umino rescues Naru from Youma Boxsy), 23 (Naru protects Nephrite from the Moon Tiara), 45 (the march on D-Point), 34/35 (Usagi and Mamoru find out their true identities and the Silver Crystal appears and Zoisite dies beautifully), the R movie... and like I said above, 198 is a pretty high point. And a whole bunch of others, like episodes about Hotaru and Profesor Tomoe. And then there's the pure-comedy episodes like 31 (Rhett Butler), and... I could go on all day.

That said, the vast majority of Sailor Stars costume choices were very strange, especially the Starlight's black bikini open-fly-shorts look and Lead Crow and Alluminum Siren's bondagey-outfits open down the center of the torso with all the straps. Sailor Stars is a little crazy even when you take genderfluid transformations and non-detailed nudity for granted :) But I don't mind any of that because I'm a pervert.

EDIT: I got the "cool I'm being hugged by a naked chick and can feel her boobs" reply-posted random picture, which is from episode 200. Awesome. What are the odds? Does anyone know the random image pool size?

It did not shock me as much as episode 45 did. Episode 45 is the most twisted, perverse, transgressive Sailor Moon episode made in history.

I thought episode 200 gave us a good conclusion. I only wish they had revealed more about Chibi-Chibi and Sailor Cosmos. On the other hand, I cannot blame TOEI because by the time that TOEI finished animating episode 200, Naoko was still writing the manga and nothing or very little was known about Sailor Cosmos by then. To summarize my thoughts, I enjoyed Stars and Stars is easily one of my favorite seasons.

I loved it. Barbie doll nudity didn't phase me at all. If anything, I think the slightly scandalous nature of it made me love it even more. :mischief:

Like Clow said above, I found episode 45 much more shocking. I remembered that episode really well from the old English dub, and couldn't get over how much heavier the Japanese version was.

I think I was mildly shocked because I first saw the episode raw from a Kazaa download (the first sailor moon episode I watched in Japanese)

I wasn’t shocked watching episode 45 because I read Hitoshi Doi’s episode summaries long before I saw the ADV sub in like 2007ish

I was shocked, because I saw episode 200. but, the problem is it's dubbed in Greek. and I can't find it in Japanese, with or without English subtitles. The first Sailor Moon episode I watched in Japanese was "Usagi in Tears! Glass Shoes for Her Birthday."

I think Stars is the worst season of the 90s anime. To be honest, it's near Crystal seasons 1/2 levels of terrible in my opinion (apart from the Nehellenia arc, which is fantastic and which I wish had been officially dubbed back in the day, at least as like a movie or something).

I was glad I didn't have to suffer through Usagi marrying Chiba

Annoyed cause the seyia thing was a waste of time

More annoyed cause Chiba came back

And thought there should have been a final wrap up episode

I was very satisfied with the ending I really have no complaints about Stars I felt the ending was really powerful and a perfect send off to the series. I mean It would have been nice if the inners had gotten more screen time and if Usagi had been a bit less passive but I feel like it ended up meaning a lot that Usagi was on her own and that she made the decisions she did against Galaxia. As far as the nudity goes it may have been a bit shocking for me at the time simply because I was not super accustomed to animated nudity but it wasn't a totally foreign concept to me i am pretty sure I had seen the entirety of Ranma 1/2 and Tenchi at that point but at my age I always kept that stuff on the down low. I was just glad she wasn't sexualized in a fanservicey kind of way. It was all very innocent she didn't even have nipples so I wouldn't feel shy about watching it.

I wasn't fully aware that it was the final episode because the order of episode broadcasting was weird back then, I was like..9? I thought Mimete was a big villain, not a lackey, it was my first disappointment when I fully explored Sailor Moon
I remember that I knew it was her strongest form and were like "wow, being naked makes her the strongest  "

I still don't get what's "crazy" about the "nudity" in that episode.
Even as a little kid I couldn't care less about it, and never interpreted it as sexual, as it was clear it represented purity.

I had no reaction about Usagi being naked, but I was very impressed by the drama and the actual depth of the episode. Toei's writers were actually brilliant in the 90's, and although I disliked Stars as a whole, episode 200 wraps up the series' spirit almost to perfection.
Still one of my favorite episodes.
