Actually, those are NOT bootleg toys. They were made in Italy in the 90's by a company named Giochi Preziosy, and collectors treasure them.Giochi Preziosy has manufactured unique Sailor Moon toys especially for Italy. Some of the TV ads here and here. From my understanding, the Neo-Princess Serenity doll (as seen in this ad) was not manufactured anywhere else in the world. It is worth a lot of money.

Some legitimate items look like bootlegs, while some bootleg ones look legitimate. :P

So, DVD's aside, what obvious Sailor Moon Bootlegs have you seen in person or around the web. I know of a few. But, I will start out with this one, as it is obviously hilarious... to me at least.
Planet Girl
And of course, it was sold at the Family Dollar. -_-;;;

I have the one on the end, the one that actually looks like it could be real...not the god awful one in the middle that looks like a 10 year old with onset blindness painted and sculpted it.
I actually have this clock. XD I found it at a local Goodwill store. XD It was amazing, even though it doesn't work and is a bootleg/knockoff, I still had to buy it for 2.99. The next week I think I found an official DIC (or cloverway, but probably dic era) pink battery powered alarm clock with the little bells on it. It may be a bottleg. I found a picture of it. (Not Mine) I think it's real. It has logos and everything, but it's the same clock

Maybe Official Alarm Clock

And I was going to post this in Melanas' topic, however I found out about this one. XD

The bootleg stuff is kinda cool to see, but they make me laugh, because they sometimes mess the colors up, or make the outfits too small. I dunno. I like them, yet they make me laugh. Not being mean, though.

Bootlegs that would make a fortune would be all the different wands and brooches / compacts. The real ones are so expensive on ebay and I know that there have been bootlegs of them before. So I don't really understand that no one takes advantage of that. If it looks good and has a decent price I'd probably buy one.

Apparently the market for them isn't big enough for their production, as the show has already ended. :)

Two years ago I would have said the same. But now that there are so many etsy sellers (who earn good money with their DIY products), now that Sailor Moon gets new recognition again and now that the market for Sailor Moon products gets bigger it's different.

The italian wands and fountain pens were successfully sold and if you want to buy them on ebay now they are pretty expensive. Maybe we're lucky and there will be more merch like that next year - when the new anime comes out. Bootleg or not, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. ^.^

What I was stressing is that the price isn't the only factor to warrant the production of a product, as the quantity demanded also has to be considered, but you're right that that's the situation back then, i.e. before the global Sailor Moon revival, not to mention the new anime next year. :)

Let's hope for the best. Until then, here's another bootleg: http://www.ebay.de/itm/SAILOR-MOON-COLLANA-COSPLAY-USAGI-TSUKINO-BUNNY-NECKLACE-CRISTALLO-DEL-CUORE-/190696353116?pt=Vestiti_Cosplay&hash=item2c66636d5c

You might have already seen this brooch on different Sailor Moon tumblrs. The pictures they showed there were simply stunning. :oh: But this ebay picture took me down to earth again. It's kind of nice, but it misses the last something to get me thrilled.

Looks pretty good  - too bad the title logo is (deliberately) wrong again. lol

What's the difference between a bootleg and a fan-made custom item?
I love fan-made custom Sailor Moon items.

However some people, like Moonsisters.org, believe that any fan-made custom item is a bootleg and is therefore illegal.
The Moonsisters website even says that bootlegs are evil.
I think the Moonsisters website, and other websites, are mistaken and very wrong when they say that fan-made custom items are just as bad as bootlegs done by third world countries.
Fan-made custom items are not bad, and they are not morally wrong.

The difference between the two isn't about their qualities, but on whether the item is mass-manufactured for a profit. :)
