Personally, I can't wait for the console release date announcement for XIII, as KOF's always been one of my favorite fighting games. I bought a copy of '95 for PlayStation at the suggestion of a friend, and found myself just as hooked on it as Street Fighter Alpha 2 (both were released in late '96 in the US). Still own the relic, too. :P

What about you? Do you have opinion on SNK Playmore's upcoming title, or even any of the previous releases? Favorite character(s)?

I used to like KOF and SNK and all that until it faded away. Besides, SF was always better.

I'll be buying a PS3 either this month or January just so I can play KOF13 and Arcana Heart 3.

It kind of annoys me that SF4 is 3d. When it comes to fighting games I prefer 2d.

And they didn't even include the Athena Asamiya of Capcom - Ingrid

How in the hell is SF4 considered 3D

I'm referring specifically to graphics. 2.5 is technically still 3d.

I like them both and, even though SF was the launching point for many, many clones, I don't feel one is superior to the other. Even through their similarities, they shine on different levels.

I like the KOF Impact series. Even though its 3d. I like the Real Bout combos that were implemented in the game.

The first one was so-so but, they really stepped their game up overall in the sequel(s).

Not a 3D fan? Let's put it this way: it's leaps and bounds over Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition. :P

Currently playing KOF 98 with winkawaks. My team is currently Blue Mary, Mai and King. It's just annoying the controls aren't that responsive as compared to KOF2000.

Should I bother getting KOF98 and 2000 UM or just wait for XIII to arrive?

98/2000 UM would definitely give you something to do until XIII's console release (which is currently set for the day after infinity, it seems :P).

What's taking it so long?

Is it true about the rumors of a CVS3? I'd definitely want to be in 2d with KOFXIII's graphics. But if its 3d it should play and look like KOF MAX Reg A.

Ingrid vs Athena is a must. I'm disappointed in MVC3's in the roster. I didn't bought it yet just in case they make SuperMVC3.

I really don't like SF4's graphics. I'm no Tekken or VF fan but their graphics are much more stunning.

Legal issues maybe? I'm unsure.

From Wikipedia:

There were interviews with SNK that it would be possible to renew their contract with Capcom to make new SNK vs. Capcom games, but in another interview, both companies stated that they would not do any further collaboration with each other. SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS will probably be the last crossover game between both companies. However, in an interview from January 2009, Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Street Fighter IV, expressed interest in a possible third game if fans demand it.

From the way it looks their using SNK playmore's graphics. Please anything but SF4's graphics.

C'mon, SF4's graphics weren't that bad. :P

I can agree with you on one thing, though: they were meant for that game and should stay there.

The closest I've ever got to the SNK fighters was playing CvsSNK2 on my Wii. To me, SNK always feels like a poor man's Capcom.

Of course, without SNK, Capcom fans wouldn't have Dan Hibiki.

Why do you think that? Is it the graphics or gameplay?

What's annoying about KOF is the game physics. It's not that easy to learn. For me its very easy move from KOF to SF but its not easy the other way around. But playing Last Blade 1 feels more like a Capcom game.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. :P

The characters are what set these two companies apart, though. Aside from the whole Ryu/Ken/Ryo business (which was a SF/Art of Fighting "thing" before KOF came along), both rosters feature some pretty awesome personalities.

I use to play KOF a long time ago. While it was fun back then, me and my brother obviously thought King was a man. Cross dress characters. :|

King actually posed as a man in the first AOF game. It wasn't until you defeated her (thus ripping her shirt and exposing her bra) that you "discovered" it was a disguise. :P

Speaking of shirt ripping and bra exposing, her KO animation in KOFXIII features this when you finish her with certain attacks.

People who don't know her character usually do.

I was looking at King of Fighters XII in the website "The Fighters Generation" and noticed so many characters are missing. They sacrificed some moves to make the roster bigger and they spended a lot of time on the stage backgrounds. Anyone here played this one?

I own it. It seems like they only released it to show off what they could do, leaving it with a rather incomplete feel. In general, the movesets have reverted back to the characters' early game incarnations (for example: no Power Dunk for Terry but, he regains his Rising Tackle).

From Wikipedia:

The game design director, Yamamoto, states that he wants the game to be played by the fans of the series who would be able to use their experience from previous titles. Additionally, however, he does not want the game to be too similar to its predecessors, though he and his staff's aim for the game is to capture the charm from previous titles.

My take? XIII is somewhat of a reboot, while being the final chapter of the Tales of Ash saga.

Gameplay-wise, it's okay, and the graphics are good, too. However, SNK has such a confusing universe. They've got so many different franchises, and too many of their characters and storylines spill over into other titles (like Terry Bogard appearing in every SNK fighter despite his main series being Fatal Fury). I can't keep track.

At least with Capcom, Street Fighter characters stay in SF games, whereas Darkstalker characters stay in their games, and so on. Crossover games like the "Marvel vs." series and "Tatsunoko vs." are kept in separate storylines, being unconnected to the main franchises' storylines. Basically, Capcom keeps things organized better, whereas SNK just feels like a mess.

You should try reading the storyline of the Street Fighter universe. It's all sorts of fubar. :P

Capcom also does mess things up. Remember Guy, Cody and Rolento are from Final Fight. Ingrid is in Alpha 3 for the PSP from Capcom Fighting Jam(what a shame this game didn't get much attention but it's capcom's fault for having such a bad idea of not being able to change fighting grooves). I don't think SFA has any connection with the original SF2. I remember someone complaining about Chunli's fighting style which was originally Tai Chi then SF3 came and she's now a Wu Shu expert. Capcom can be just as bad as Marvel.

There's also Street Fighter EX. What ever happened to the EX characters. I like D. Dark and Hokuto. I personally prefer the EX characters over the new SF4 characters. Just wished Ingrid and Karin made it over SF4. And who wants to play as Hakan?

EX is an alternate storyline, much like Maximum Impact is to KOF. It was also developed by Arika so, chances of seeing those characters in a direct SF game are slim to none.

D. Dark does rock, though. :D

I thought Terry was the main character of The King of Fighters, since that's the first game I saw him, despite him being from another game. If you don't like some of the characters from a fighting game jumping to another fighting game while staying with the same company, then think of it as an early Super Smash Bros because that game has no original characters in the roster. All of them came from another game. I found out that the King of Fighters that I played back then was 95. I thought it was a SNES game but it's on the PlayStation, so I must have played it on that system.

By the way, I laugh when I see this.
