About Mobile Suit Gundam The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is a space opera anime that redefined the mecha genre. Right Stuf's President and CEO Shawne Kleckner said, “We are proud to have been chosen by Sunrise to represent this seminal anime franchise. Bringing this series back to American audiences is a great honor.” “The Gundam franchise is often revered as a true classic that helped to redefine our perception of what a mecha anime can do.” – Anime News Network More information can be found at http://www.sunrise-inc.co.jp/international.

If they release Gundam X here then I might buy since I've heard good things about that show.

If I recall correctly the man behind these designs is Syd Mead, he also made the designs for Bladerunner and also had a game on the PC Engine (Turbografix for Americans) called Terraforming.

I am a huge Syd Mead fan and I as well think his designs rock.

Correct. :) He's also done designs for Yamato 2520, including the title Earth Federation ship:

A little disappointed we're not getting the Blu Rays, to be honest. For Turn A, I mean. Although it's probably for the best, since they might've overpriced them anyway.

Anime retailer and distributor Right Stuf, Inc. announced at its panel at Anime Expo on Friday that it and Sunrise will release the original Mobile Suit Gundam television anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc this fall. The companies also revealed that they will release Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, After War Gundam X, and the Turn A Gundam movie collection (Turn A Gundam: Earth Light and Turn A Gundam: Moonlight Butterfly) in North America.

Right Stuf and Sunrise will release the original Mobile Suit Gundam television anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, and the release will mark the first time the series is getting a Blu-ray Disc release in North America. The first 21 episodes will ship in fall 2015 with English and Japanese audio, English subtitles, and on-screen translations.

The first Mobile Suit Gundam series premiered in Japan in 1979. Bandai Entertainment released the series on DVD in North America.

Right Stuf and Sunrise then plan to release Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, After War Gundam X, and the Turn A Gundam movie collection "in the coming months."

The two companies announced a partnership in October 2014 to release the Gundam franchise in North America. Sunrise previously worked with Right Stuf to release the Gundam Unicorn original video anime in the United States.

All right, X confirmed!

Don't count on it happening for the older Gundams.

Not sure about Build Fighters & the newest shows though (not counting The Origin which is dubbed).

Sunrise Inc. announced at its Sunrise & Bandai Namco Pictures panel at New York Comic Con on Friday that it plans to offer an English dub for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans in early 2016. Sunrise is producing the dub with Bang Zoom! Entertainment.

The series premiered in Japan on October 4 and Daisuki, Gundam.Info, and Hulu debuted the first episode streaming. Crunchyroll and Funimation will also stream the series beginning on October 11.

Tatsuyuki Nagai is helming the show at Sunrise, with Mari Okada handling series composition. Yu Ito (Shut Hell, Imperial Guards) drew the original character designs, while Michinori Chiba designed the characters for animation (Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Mobile Suit Gundam AGE). Naohiro Washio, Kanetake Ebikawa, Ippei Gyōbu, Kenji Teraoka, and Tamotsu Shinohara are designing the mechas for the show. Kusanagi is in charge of art design, and Masaru Yokoyama is composing the music.

In addition, Sunrise announced that it plans to release Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam Build Fighters Try, and Mobile Suit Gundam - The Movie Trilogy on home video in the west. Like its previously announced Gundam titles—Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, After War Gundam X—the release is slated for 2016. Gundam: Reconguista in G is slated for spring 2016. Right Stuf is collaborating with Sunrise to release these series.

The first Gundam Build Fighters series aired from October 2013 to March 2014. Gundam Build Fighters Try aired from October 2014 to April 2015. Gundam.Info streamed both series with English subtitles as they aired in Japan.

Mobile Suit Gundam - The Movie Trilogy was previously released on DVD in the west by Bandai Entertainment. The first film uses footage from the original 1979 television anime, while the next two films add new footage.

Finally, Sunrise announced that it plans to stream Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin episode 2, "Artesia's Sorrow," worldwide via on-demand streaming simultaneously with the Japanese theatrical release on October 31. A Blu-ray collector's edition will follow on November 7.

The first two episodes of Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin will screen in Los Angeles on October 31.

So which Gundam series was your favourite? Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but I prefer the UC timeline series and Zeta Gundam in particular, because it surveys the theme of war and its psychological impact on its participants, pretty sophisticated for that era.

Same here - I don't care too much about those later series of other timelines. BTW, I've heard that Zeta was supposed to be the final production, but as it turns out, we all know that it's become an endless waltz (pun intended) to this day.

Haha, are you sure Gundam stole the light saber idea from Star Wars? If I recalled, Yoshiyuki Tomino developed that idea independently on his own, but was frustrated that Star Wars coincidentally adopted that idea as well, now making Gundam appeared to have copied Star Wars.

Of course, the broader idea of a beam/energy-based weapon predates both Star Wars and Gundam, so in that sense, both Gundam and Star Wars aren't guilty of copying one another.

P.S-That being said, Gundam does pay homage to Star Wars in other aspects. Look at Char's helmet for example, it does vaguely resembles Darth Vader's helmet, no?
