Haha, are you sure Gundam stole the light saber idea from Star Wars? If I recalled, Yoshiyuki Tomino developed that idea independently on his own, but was frustrated that Star Wars coincidentally adopted that idea as well, now making Gundam appeared to have copied Star Wars.

Didn't know that. ^_^'

That being said, Gundam does pay homage to Star Wars in other aspects. Look at Char's helmet for example, it does vaguely resembles Darth Vader's helmet, no?

One may also argue that both copy from the helmet of German soldiers during WWII. lol

Yes it's an Animax dub.

Quote:
Is this the same dub that aired on Cartoon Network in the Philippines last year?

Probably? The dub is a Hong Kong dub so it's quite possible.

I wonder how this dub is, maybe better than their Cardcaptor Sakura dub?

Build Fighters is getting dubbed? Cool. It's a more kid-friendly iteration, I believe.

Speaking of which: does anyone build gunpla? If so, what kind of models do you build and what series do you prefer?

ANN wrote:
Sunrise announced at its official Gundam panel at Otakon on Friday that it will release the HD remastered versions of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny with new English dubs recorded at NYAV Post. The dub will have a brand new cast under director Carrie Keranen.

The cast includes:

Max Mittelman as Kira
Chris Hackney as Athrun
Stephanie Sheh as Lacus
Sandy Fox as Haro
Cherami Leigh as Cagalli
Erica Mendez as Flay
Lucien Dodge as Sai
Cassandra Morris as Miriallia
Colin DePaula as Tolle
Eddy Lee as Kuzzey
Daman Mills as Yzak
Johnny Yong Bosch as Dearka
Casey Mongillo as Nicol

Bandai Channel began streaming a 48-episode remastered version of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed in 2011 and followed it up with a remastered version of the sequel Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny in 2013. Both remastered series got Blu-ray Disc releases in Japan.

Bandai Entertainment released the original versions of both series with English dubs, and some episodes of Gundam Seed aired on Cartoon Network in the United States in 2004. Bandai Entertainment described the original series:

Year 70 of the Cosmic Era. The Coordinators, a group of genetically enhanced humans, have moved into colonies orbiting the Earth. But that hasn't quieted the tensions between them and regular humans; the conflict soon escalates into a full-scale war. On the neutral colony of Heliopolis, Kira Yamato, and his friends are going to school and just being kids. But when the ZAFT commando forces attack, Kira's life changes forever.

Left with no choice, he and Federation officer Murrue Ramius are thrown into battle in a prototype mobile weapon, which Kira christens "GUNDAM." Now, Kira must defend himself and his friends from his own people. For, unknown to anyone else, Kira is a Coordinator. And the enemy he faces on the battlefield is his childhood best friend, Athrun!

Gundam Seed is streaming on Hulu with English subtitles.

As for why they're not including the old dub for this...

https://fandompost.vbulletin.net/forum/ ... post605392

Quote:
The problem with SEED's dub is that they shuffled scenes around, shortened some, and inserted scenes from the Special Edition movies, and when they redrew certain scenes, they altered the mouthflaps to better line up to the Japanese audio. They didn't add anything that requires new voicework thogh. If they have the seperate dialogue stems, they could "easily" remix them with the HD Remaster music+effects track and resync the dub. The mouthflaps might be an issue, but it'd work. I say "easily" because it's still a good bit of work to mix all that stuff again.

If they don't have the separate stems, which, being that SEED's dub is 10+ years old, wouldn't surprise me at all if they final mix is all they have, then the issue you run into is the change don't allow the dub to sync properly. It can be made to work through selective edits, but the music and effects make noticeable jumps if you do that. It also becomes a bigger issue later on where they altered things more, like the scenes with the new Perfect Strike. The launch sequence for that was changed up because the Strike has all 3 Strikers mounted, so the effects hit much faster as they are attached. If you try and use the original version of that scene from the dub, only the Aile Striker was installed, so the effects fall totally out of sync.

As for your suggestion of an edit to match the dub, the problem there is, they would need to have upscale a whole bunch of material that was removed or reanimated, like the aforementioned Strike changes. All those battle scenes would need to be restored to the Aile Strike version. The HD Remaster episodes run the same length as their old counterparts, it's just the shortening of scenes to account for new stuff like the Special Edition scenes and such. If they're just gonna upscale the whole thing across the board, it loses it's luster a bit.

The whole situation is a mess. Honestly, at this point, if they don't have the separate stems, I'd expect a sub-only release unless they decide to have Ocean redub the whole series, which is probably not gonna happen.

Had a feeling this was coming, surprised NYAV's getting it though instead of Bang Zoom because they haven't dubbed anything other than a few movies in recent years since most of the LA work had went to Bang Zoom & Studiopolis (including Berserk 2016-2017 which was BS because the previous adaptations were done at NYAV and they WANTED to work on this one).

Don't really care for Seed so I'll be passing.

And the wait for G on Blu-ray here continues...

(announcements at 34:03 & 44:20)

ANN wrote:
Right Stuf announced at its panel at Otakon on Saturday that it will release the Mobile Fighter G Gundam anime as part of its partnership with Sunrise. In addition, the company announced details of its previously announced release of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam, a spinoff of Mobile Suit Gundam, will ship in two sets in 2018. Right Stuf will release the series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD with English and Japanese audio and English subtitles.

Right Stuf describes the anime's story:

It is time for the "Gundam Fight" tournament! Each country sends a Gundam to Earth for this prestigious tournament in the hopes of winning power and glory for their homeland! But this time, there's an unseen evil lurking behind the scene. Domon Kasshu, Neo Japan's reluctant Fighter, is determined to uncover this evil and clear his family name! The fight to the top begins now!

The series premiered in 1994 as the first Gundam television series that was not set in the Universal Century timeline of the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Crunchyroll added the series to its catalog in March. Bandai Entertainment produced an English dub for the show, which aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami block in 2002. Bandai Entertainment also released the series on DVD. A Blu-ray Disc release of the anime shipped in Japan in two volumes in September and November last year. The series has also inspired several manga adaptions, including the Mobile Fighter G Gundam manga that Tokyopop released the first volume of in 2003.

The Mobile Suit Gundam Wing television anime series will ship as two sets on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in November 2017. Right Stuf and Sunrise will release both the original video anime (OVA) and film versions of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in December 2017. The Endless Waltz release will also include the four-part Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor OAV, which Right Stuf will release for the first time in North America. The releases will include both English and Japanese audio and English subtitles, but Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor will have only Japanese audio with English subtitles.

In addition, Right Stuf will release the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Collector's Ultra Edition with the television series, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor OAV, and OVA and film versions of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz in December 2017. The release will include a bonus disc of video content such as the "New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop" picture drama and cast interviews. The Ultra Edition will bundle five large art cards, five tarot cards, three posters, a five-piece metal pin set, and a 180-page art book. The art book will feature key and promotional art, mecha and character designs, staff and cast interviews, and storyboards.

Right Stuf describes Mobile Suit Gundam Wing's story:

Mankind has moved into space. Thousands of people live on giant orbiting space colonies called "Sides." However, the Earth Government, which rules the colonies, is unjust and cruel. A group of revolutionaries build five robotic weapons called Gundams and plan to send them to Earth to begin their fight for independence. Piloted by five young men, these Gundams carry the colonists' hopes and dreams of freedom with them as they descend to Earth to begin Operation Meteor!

The series premiered in 1995 and ran for 49 episodes. In 2000, it became the first Mobile Suit Gundam series to premiere on television in the United States. The series spawned the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz sequel OVA, which was later compiled into a film.

Bandai Entertainment previously released the television series in North America on DVD and VHS. The series is available streaming with both English and Japanese audio on Hulu and in Japanese with English subtitles on Crunchyroll. The series left the Daisuki streaming service in June. The series also inspired a number of manga adaptations, including Gundam Wing: The Glory of Losers, which North American publisher Vertical licensed.

Sunrise and Right Stuf announced their partnership in 2014 to release the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise in North America.

Blind-bought these two sets in 2011 after avoiding Gundam for over a decade due to not liking Wing when it aired on Toonami in 2000 (and originally thinking all the other Gundams that aired on the block afterwards were linked to it), I ended up enjoying this series a lot so I'll be looking forward to buying G again on Blu-ray this time.

I've been waiting ages for G Gundam to get reissued. The HD remaster looks amazing, so excited!
