I don't know if it's okay to create this kind of thread, but I realize that I've had an attitude issue lately, so I kinda want people to know that I'm really not that scary. :) At the same time, I realized that I could use some support lately from some people on this forum.

Basically, I figured it would be beneficial and smart to create a thread here in the off-topic section where I can post about some stuff going on in my life and maybe deepen some of the connections I've made here. I've kept most of my posts to the Sailor Moon general discussion thread, and I guess that's one way to make connections with fans -- but given my nature to be annoyingly analytical and sometimes express things the wrong way, I think a more casual/relaxed thread could be a good idea.

Probably kinda selfish to have a thread "just for me" but we have all kinds of "ask (username) anything" threads so I figured, why not.

Anyway, here's where I'm at right now: we had to put down our dog Piper on Monday. She was 13.5 years old and I miss her very dearly. :( I both think it was too soon and too late, I know that's contradictory but that's just how it is. She was having some medical issues and mobility problems, I don't think she was "suffering" but we had to make this decision before things got any worse. I've been grieving a lot over the past few days and I think it's gonna get worse for me before it gets any better. I'm not new to grief -- I lost my father 17 years ago -- but this feels different and more personal, even though this is a dog we're talking about. She looked at us with so much love and trust in her eyes as they gave her the injection -- I know we were doing the right thing, but it goes against all of my instincts to love and protect her. I feel like I betrayed her. I know that's not the case but still...

If your dog were a human you love, like your parents or spouse, would you do the same thing to her (assuming it were allowed by the law)? If the answer is "yes," then I think you don't need to be upset by doing it besides grieving for her death. :)

Oh mate, I'm so sorry for you.
I can't really imagine how you're feeling, that's such a unique and difficult experience. :blue: I've lost a cat before and he was quite old as well, so I can at least appreciate your loss.

Yeah, for many, pets, especially the aging ones, are just like family members, & the sadness from their passing away is the same as losing a human family member. :(

Oh absolutely. We as humans invest a lot of love with our pets and they love us back in different ways, really that's no different to how we treat or at least like to be treated by our family members.

Thanks so much for the kind words, everyone. I'm attaching a picture of my dog Piper, this was taken in the car on Friday 6/16/17 on the way back from the vet when it was determined we will need to put her down in a few days.

Thank you. And I like these threads too. :) Thing is, I'm really bad with keeping in touch with people and logging in here often, so I hope that won't be a strain. I'd really like to connect with people here more but it's hard. :(

If you lost a pet then I'm sure you do know how I'm feeling, I appreciate it. :)

This is tricky, Rika...if euthanasia were legal, it would still be that person's choice. A dog can't really consent to it. But I see what you mean. :)

Thanks Chris, I think you definitely know what it's like even though, like you said, each experience is unique. I'm doing a bit better now.

Thanks Rose, I'm glad you're noticing. :)

So...I'm still sad about my dog of course, but it gets just a little bit better every day. :)

For some reason I've been interested in three different topics lately: Taoism, Anthroposophy (the works of Rudolf Steiner), and Arthurian legends. I have no idea why -- especially the last one, as I've never been interested in that stuff before -- but for some reason I feel like it's all connected somehow. I think it's just my grief getting the best of me. ^_^; At any rate, I've been reading the Tao Te Ching as a way to sort of guide myself to a new way of living, so I hope for the best there.

I know how it feels to lose a dog I lost my Pug Taz several years ago and it still stings but I got over it and now I have my Puggle (Half Pug-Half Beagle) Joey and he is the most loving dog we ever had you sit on the couch and you could get cuddled by him

I miss my dog. :dead:

On top of that, though...I'm looking for a job. I quit mine back in March because it wasn't what I wanted to do, and I wasn't happy there. I thought I'd be able to find something new pretty quickly, but I'm also realizing that I have *no idea* what I want to do with my life. I've started applying for part-time retail jobs which I always thought I was "too good" for (I have a degree). I guess this just shows that I still have a lot left to learn in this world.

It's not that bad actually - over here we have holders of master's degrees applying to work as flight attendants, & I've heard even many years ago that there're college grads sweeping the streets in Singapore. :)

I can understand how you feel about work, I currently work in retail right now. I won't say it's a great job because it isn't, it can in fact feel quite thankless at times, it helps though to have good people to work with you. I hope you find out what you eat to do in life, personally I think I have worked out myself but now I need to actually do it and I tend to be lazy.

I have two Master's degrees and I did work in retail briefly --I could not find a job.

The good news is... if you have a degree and are ambitious, it is not too difficult to become a manager or a district manager. Of course, you have to start as a cashier or as an overnight stocker, but from there the possibilities are endless and the sky is the limit. You have to prove that you deserve a promotion.

I have an acquaintance who graduated from college with a degree in sociology and she took a part-time job as a cashier at Target. Within six months, she became a manager, and she kept being promoted every year... eventually, she ended up in Human Resources and she spent about five years working as a Human Resources specialist... then she applied for Microsoft and is now a Human Resources Specialist at Microsoft.

My experience with retail was brief, but I had a lot of fun. I initially wanted to work at Tiffany & Co. selling jewelry and even got an interview, but Sephora hired me first and I chose Sephora because my gut instinct told me that the manager there was a kind person (... and I was right... we are friends on Facebook now). Anyhow, I was hired as a fragrance consultant and I loved the job because I truly can spend hours and hours talking about fragrances without ever getting bored. I loved working at Sephora and whenever I go there my former co-workers still recognize me and say things like: "this guy knows everything about Chanel no. 5."

My advice if you want to work retail: choose a store that you love and know everything about.

We just had to put our 17 year old dog to sleep due to normal old age problems (unconsciousness, deafness, incontinence, difficulty walking) ending finally in a stroke. I couldn't be there to watch, as I have a lot of issues in terms of seeing a hurting or threatened dog. Our first dog to die (his brother) while I was walking him on a family vacation several years ago, broke a leash while chasing an SUV, his neck got snapped in half and there was blood all over the place.

Laziness is such a hindrance. I tell myself that my problem is being lazy, but everyone else tells me my problem is that I'm too hard on myself and so anything I indulge in -- like a video game, for example -- is seen as "laziness" by me, even though something like that really isn't a big deal. I think I need to learn that it's okay to relax and indulge as long as you can keep a plan. Don't miss the forest for the trees, etc.

I think the same philosophy can be applied to weight/fat loss (because I'm trying to get in shape, as well). Small fluctuations in weight don't matter; the big picture is what matters.

All of that sounds awful, I'm sorry you had to go through all of it. :( I guess I should be grateful that Piper didn't get that bad...

I actually felt like I *had* to be there. The last thing my dog saw was her humans' faces as we looked at her with love and sadness. It felt right.

Small fluctuations in weight don't matter; the big picture is what matters.
...

Exactly, that's exactly the right way to think about it. Personally I tend to overindulge a lot, be it gaming or anime or even eating at times, I don't really know why but I know that part of it is enjoyment or entertainment. I think you've got the right attitude but it sounds like you put a lot of stock in the work and while that's good it can be a problem later on, especially for socializing. Can I ask; how relaxed do you get when you do something you enjoy like a game?

I would love to answer you Chris, and I was going to once I thought about it some more, but I'm currently recovering from a particularly debilitating anxiety attack...this one was pretty bad. I barely ate anything over the weekend. I don't wanna get into the details of the anxiety itself as I'm mostly over it, but jeez. I was really out of commission. :(

Ultimately I find it difficult to truly relax even when I'm doing something I enjoy.

Oh wow. I'm sorry to hear that, at least you've recovered for the most part. Whenever you feel up to it feel free to talk to me either here or through PM about it. I've had my fair share of anxiety and anxiety attacks.
Hm, I find that very strange, it suggests to me that you have little to no ability to empty your mind from the day's events or to just be. This sounds much more serious.

This is terrible, John! I am truly sorry to hear about your recent anxiety attack.

Thanks for the support, everyone. I wasn't expecting it but it feels really great.

Chris: I think it's just lately that I have trouble doing this. The other night I was playing a video game and I got pretty into it, so I guess maybe it's not that bad. Maybe I tend to exaggerate my issues.

You're welcome, John! If you like, would you be willing allow me to add you as a friend? :)

No worries mate, we're here for you. :keke:
Heh, I see. Well I certainly hope you're feeling better, it definitely sounds like you're in a more stable state of mind. I will say continue to monitor yourself for a while, whatever it was causing your anxiety could resurface again.
