Anyone have advice on how to draw Sailor Moon? The skirt comes out flat.

Start with it being flat, then possibly draw in the pleats later?

Or was the question about how to draw perspectively (foreshortened)?

How to draw her in general. The bust comes out bigger than the waist.

Up to the point to where it looks wierd? Yes.

But I need to learn how to draw the foot part of her boots first. It usually comes out flat and pointy.

I'm honestly not trying to make fun of you here, but:

I don't know if you know that before you start drawing at all, one crucial thing among many you might need to learn about is some basic anatomy, and the best way coming into my mind to do that - apart from studying pathology, of course - still would be nude art lessions. (If you wonder about that one, just ask several professional and hobby artists :ami:)

UPDATE: @Rika-Chicchi: And yes, of course, also the naked and semi-naked statues in the museum, I was going to mention that sooner or later :mischief:

@Kiryugoji2002: The choice of the drawing utensils probably depends in every case on what you're trying to achieve and/or what suits yourself best. :)

By the way, did I mention I actually did an internship in a real Animation/SFX studio? One of the reasons I know such things.

Yeah, you have to grasp the human anatomy, as Onuzim Ima said above. As nude models aren't always available, you may use nude statues for practicing drawing. :)

I also want to draw action poses for Sailor Moon but I'm not good at perspective.

It's best to practice w/ real persons or statues/pics of them 1st, not w/ anime/manga characters - only when you've already mastered the real ones, you can then handle the artistic distortions in the anime/manga ones well.

Perspective is quite theoretical & hence could be a bit boring to some, so I'd suggest to take that later & do drawings 1st. :)

I've recently started drawing again, and I actually just use a straight #2 pencil so I can erase. I don't think I'm horrible, but I do make mistakes and have to redraw lines.

Practice makes perfect. I'll put a sample of a drawing I did recently. You can tell I've had to erase and redraw lines.

Yeah, big link, but I posted it on my Facebook as a direct link. Just keep at it. You can draw anything you want to if you put your mind to it and keep practicing every day.

You can attach pictures (and probably other kinds of files) by default - although there's a limit on size and dimensions. ;)

Or upload the pic onto an image dumping site & then link it back here. :)

For the start, using line- or square-printed paper is not recommended. :ami:

I also see (and have experienced myself) that the eyes seem to be one of the most crucial parts:

Remember that all of this is meant to be constructive criticism. No harm intended.

Now one thing I always wanted to know is if it's really mandatory by law to draw boys and girls so noticeable different from each other :googly:

No really, just for once I want to see a male protagonist in a Manga who is chubby and/or of small and/or "feminine" build.
