The item I have that is a bootleg isn't a Sailor Moon item, but an Angel Lily doll from Wedding Peach. There is a blank spot on the back of the box and in the top corner on the front, and the paint job on the doll's eyes look completely different than the original, and she is missing her Lip Liner necklace that the original one has. Also, she has a tag inside her dress that says "Mimi World" when the originals were made by Tomy. I think it's unusual that the company who made the bootlegs for these dolls had their own label. Perhaps it was a Chinese version that was legit? I know there is a Korean version of the dolls that are legit. Anyone own any of these dolls?

I'm not familiar with the Wedding Peach dolls, but I know a lot of people do customs for Sailor Moon dolls, so... Do you think it's possible that make it was a doll someone altered?

Wow.

There are bootleg Saturn Figuarts floating around on eBay. I can tell they're bootlegs because they are dirt cheap, look dirt cheap, have no sticker, and are called the "Chinese Version".

Can anyone confirm if this is the first Saturn bootleg toy? I don't recall any from the 90s or 10th Anniversary, probably because back then she had close to zero merch.

I have the real thing, and while it definitely looks nicer than the bootleg, I will admit the bootleg looks pretty okay. If I hadn't saved up and bought the legit Saturn at a convention, I admit I probably would've been lured into getting the bootleg to save money.

Doesn't look bad at all actually, surprising.

I found a good to tell them apart, look at her hands. the real one's are fully white up to the end of her gloves while the Chinese version has a bit of skin between.

Sooner or later the bootlegs would become indistinguishable from the real things, at least in their appearance. lol

I bought the bootleg Saturn because Saturn is my favorite, I have no merchandise of her, and I didn't want to pay $40+ for the real deal. (Got the bootleg for $14) Overall it's pretty good quality, but the torso is a little too thin and the legs look a little too long. The joints in the hands and boots are also off-color (hand joints are flesh colored instead of white and the foot joints are a different shade of purple). Still, overall it was a good deal and I'm happy with it.

The gashapon lockets and wands probably won't get bootlegs because they seek on japan, china, and Korea in large amounts.

^ I think she wants to keep this thread active because what makes it important is to keep sm merchandise buyers aware of bootlegs, to warn them of known bootlegs when spotted before it's too late and already purchased.

I have to admit that I sometimes do buy bootleg SM merchandise, I'm not very proud of it but many of the authentic SM merchandise are just so expensive that I cannot afford to buy many of the legitimate merchandise, I'm quite poor and have a very tight budget  so I'm not much of a collector to begin with and I only own a few pieces of SM merch, I mainly just buy some of the stuff that I want the most, I do buy a few of the legit merch depending on the prices, if they're cheap like all the gashapon stuff, then I would buy the authentic versions. I don't think there's any bootleg versions of the SM gashapon goods right? At least I haven't seen any.
But if the SM goods I want are expensive and if I desperately want them, then that's when I opt for the bootleg versions, I mainly buy the bootleg versions of the SM collaboration goods with Samantha Thavasa and its sub-brands, because all the legit Samantha Thavasa goods are very expensive, I would not pay $200-300 just for a wallet or $500+ for a handbag. Those SM collaboration goods with ST are very popular hence there's plenty of bootleg versions of these collaboration goods selling on ebay and they're dirt cheap compared to the authentic ones. I love ST products and their collaboration goods with SM are so beautiful but I just cannot afford to buy any of them because they're all so ridiculously expensive, therefore I can't help but buy the bootleg versions of them.

I do not like figurines nor do I collect them and I don't collect dolls either, so I don't care about all the SH Figuarts or Pullip dolls that many other fans seem to love. Although I do like the Pullip dolls and I want the Pullip doll of Sailor Mercury, but there is no way I would pay $200+ just for a doll. Unless they make bootleg versions of the Pullip dolls, then I might consider buying a bootleg Mercury Pullip doll for much cheaper, that is if they ever make one.

I prefer to buy goods that are actually practical or useful, stuff that I can actually use or wear, so the types of SM merch I would usually buy are mostly the SM cosmetics from Creer Beaute, and some jewellery pieces and wallets/bags, stationery etc.
