It's about being able to say what we want to say.

Did I say that?

I obviously meant in response to bending over backwards not to offend people, not profanity in and of itself.

But does cursing necessarily make it that much better? I would think that what makes this place great is its amount of discussion on Sailor Moon, not on whether or not cursing is a thing.

See above.

Well, guess I've said all I can really say on this.

So getting what you want (being able to say what you want) is more important than possibly offending others and alienating new members?

(I take it that alienating new members is an extreme possibility, but I still think it's a possibility nonetheless. (And I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to understand your perspective.))

Edit: And as a matter of fact, one hardly needs to bend over backwards to avoid offending people. It's actually very easy. It's not always possible, but it's easy to try.

Not swearing is "bending over backwards"? Really? It's not really hard...

Did you not read where I said "not profanity in and of itself?"

It was in response to what I view as John's outlook, and had nothing to do with profanity.

If t's such a big deal to you guys to "Freedom of Speech" them why can't I state my opinion about Nevermind? Also I hate the fact that my opinions are being ignored right now

But the rule has everything to do with profanity, so, I really don't understand.

We're so ideologically opposed. =3

I think it's entertaining.

Soda: your posts are being ignored because there's a difference between stating an opinion and flame-baiting. You said you were gonna give it a rest. So give it a rest. =( Please. It'll be good for you. Not to mention, calling someone out publicly is against the rules; see the first post.

Didn't we already had rules about profanity anyways?

It certainly seems that way.

It was in response to.

That.

And yes I don't outright seek to offend others, but at the same time I won't censor myself or bend over backwards for it. Whether that be regarding profanity or not.

All the mods are asking is to not swear... They're not trying to dictate what you think or feel, they're just trying to clean this place up.

As can I, but there's a bunch of other things that are being problematic here.

Well I've given my thoughts on that already.

There are certainly better ways of doing it if you ask me.

Banning trolls and curtailing inane posts would be a decent start.

At least Nangbaby's been taken care of. So I trust the General section will be much smoother now.

Not to cause anymore, but if you guys feel that it is so important to have your freedom of speech, then you guys wouldn't have with other members stating their honest opinions. I'm done for the night.

Not a fan of these rules at all and it's all the trolls fault for making this place more strict that it really needs to be. If only the mods had more spine to deal with the situation sooner, then it wouldn't have been blown out of proportion.

The forum is beginning to face dark times, and I was just beginning to feel comfortable here.

Some of you guys have a lot of nerve to talk about what's comfortable and what's when you guys constantly insult or bash people unnecessarily all the time. The wiki is a perfect example and I'm pretty no one new will feel comfortable seeing some pages of that. I'm done for the night.

And then....you'll pop back in just to spout BS.

You know, If you didn't start with your 360 attitude shift none of this would be happening.

But the only "new" rules are things about not derailing threads (coinciding with Nevermind's request to curtail inane posts), no hotlinking (that's kind of a thing in many forums), and no publicly calling people out in order to create drama (AKA, acting trollish).

Soda: you said you were done for the night earlier. And I'm pretty sure you said it a couple of hours ago, too.

We only insult and bash people who exhibit trollish behavior such as yourself. If you act with sense then we won't call you out. Also I have tried to be nice to you because you seem very troubled but even I am done with this. The more you keep posting senseless nonsense the more you are begging to be banned. For your own sake you need to straighten up and fly right.

Pretty much. Again, it's all about you. Do bad things, and you'll get mentioned in a negative light on the wiki. Do good things, and you'll be mentioned in a positive light.

It's at this time that I'm truly thankful that we have the wiki as an uncensored source of info by the community, for the community.

Hopefully now the drama will cease.

I'm not starting BS I'm just stating facts. This forum had derailed a long time ago and the core of all of it was you and Nevermind, so don't put it all on me. You guys have of nerve talking about how to make things safe well crap, make it safe. You and Nevermind always started with confederate and Maria always started it with Nangbaby and you all can't deny that, so no it's not all my fault.

Well that's good. :mischief:

Hopefully it's just one of those temp hiatuses. :P

Edit: No, Confederate was harassing me in PMs during the awards.

At least get your facts right.

More baseless claims.

I'm an original member of the Genvid forums, signing up a few months after their creation. For years, there were little no no issues whatsoever. I think maybe only one person got banned in the first few years. There was lots of fun, games, intelligent debates and discussion, etc. Rules were in place then, and yet, we managed to get along quite well.

In the past couple of years, I am unsure as to what happened. With essentially the same base rules, there is more chaos, barely any thread can go past a certain point without there being unnecessary attacking, with debates/discussions breaking down into insults, and just a general lack of maturity. It's as if as the forums aged, the ability of the general populous to conduct themselves in a civil manner has decreased. Maybe it's just me getting old, but I don't see how constant fighting and bickering is seen as fun. The big concern here seems to be that by enforcing the rules that have always been around takes away the fun, yet I fail to see how many people find this chaos to be fun.

I guess I'm just confused. I don't see how all the fun here can't be replicated just because everyone is now going to pay attention to the rules. These forums managed just fine in the first few years with the rules as mentioned above. Maybe it's just the initial feeling of change that will just take some time to get used to. When the merge happened some years ago, as today, there were people for the change, and people crying about how this will destroy the forums altogether. A couple months went by and everything subsided. I don't see why the same wouldn't happen again here, but it looks like at the rate things are going, it'll be another couple of months before things settle again. I do like to be proven wrong in cases like this though.

MK:

Ban trolls. Curtail inane posts. Spam in the Off Topic section is a problem too.

Things will get much better after that.
