Sailor Moon was my first anime as a wee kindergartner. My babysitter got me into it and created a life-long love for the show. When I first watched it, I had no idea what anime was and didn't realize Sailor Moon was an anime until I was in middle school and was able to look up more about it on the Internet. I don't really remember my exact thoughts on the show, except thinking the characters were pretty and that "Darien" was soooo dreamy. I also gave up wanting to be a Disney princess in lieu of becoming the moon princess.

I watched Moomins and Pokémon (and the occasional Battle Beyblade & such) when I was little, but I didn't think of them as anime. Sailor Moon was my first anime in a sense that I realized it was different (for some reason).

Yes. Sailor Moon was the first anime I saw - Danish television never aired anime during my childhood. I first learned about Sailor Moon through its fandom, when I was in the Harry Potter fandom. I decided to cross over, when the last HP book was published.

I can't exactly remember if I watched Sailor Moon or Pokemon first, but I think it was Sailor Moon. Although I had no idea what anime was at the time.

As a child of the 80s, my first anime was either Voltron or Robotech. However, the first anime I knew was anime was whatever I watched during Sci-Fi Channel's last Anime Week in 1998. I'd started watching SM in 1997, for reference.

I was the same age when I discovered Sailor Moon and Pokemon, so it's hard to remember which was my first.

No, Robotech was my gateway series into anime. Used to totally not like anime at all (I did watch Pokemon as a kid, but that was it) until I started watching Robotech about a year ago. It changed my perspective on the genre, and I was not the same person after I got into that show.

But, I don't think I've gotten into any other Anime as much as I did (well, still am kind of :P ) with Sailor Moon.

Not quite sure how I found out about SM, I guess I just heard about it briefly mentioned on "nerd" websites and whatnot. It wasn't until I was chatting with a lady-friend of mine who said she loved the show. I laughed at the idea of it being an addicting show like she was saying it was.

200 episodes later, she's laughing at ME now :P .

Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon is my only anime. My memories of my very first watch of Sailor Moon S on Cartoon Network are so very faint. I was 4, it was 2000. Basically all I can remember is the episode where Minako ran into her old fan, and battled a daimon with her volleyball skills, and I remember seeing Sailor Moon doing "Moon Cosmic Power" And when she did the part where her boots appear I was like, "Wow! That girl did a handstand!" But I know I was pretty into it, my friend Hannah( who was 5 at the time) had a Sailor Moon doll and I remember being VERY jealous. (I wonder if she still has it somewhere...) So fast forward to age 9, I'm in 4th grade and one day I was bored and on the internet. For some reason I googled Sailor Moon and watched a random R episode (in english dub) and I decided, "This is effing awesome! MORE MORE MORE!" I watched several english dub episodes, but somehow I got turned on to the original Japanese version, and I was like, "The english dub is garbage compared to this!" I got so so so so into it after that. I told all of my little 4th grade buddies, and they knew what the show was, but thought I was weird for liking it. Anyway, so I opened a youtube account, made some very crappy SM AMVs to some very crappy music(I was in 4th grade, mind you. hahaha.) Then in 6th grade I hung up my title as a moonie, and decided it was for babies. In 8th grade, I picked the title back up, and began reading the manga. Now I'm here in the end of my freshman year, and I actually am planning to get an SM tattoo(if I can find a place that does underage tattoos, or I'll wait until I come of age.) just because of the impact the meta series has had on my life.

The Green Forest was my first anime but Sailor Moon is what brought me to the fandom.

Nope, my first anime was that gawd ahhful Superbook. It's like Veggietales, except there's a robot and he abducts two kids to take them through Bible stories.

However Sailor Moon was the first anime I really gravitated to.

My first anime was the 1981 movie "Swan Lake" the dub with Nancy link as Odette. There was also a dub with Pam Dawber as Odette, but I don't remember if I ever saw that version.

I'm not sure if that movie "Little Nemo" counts as an anime or not...if so, that would be my first, but I mean who really knows for sure, I think it's a complicated matter and it's not easy to classify it as completely Eastern or completely Western.

I also saw "Serendipity the Pink Dragon" but that might have been after I saw Sailor Moon...

I didn't know Sailor Moon was an anime; it was 1997 or so, and I saw the episode with Sailor Mercury transforming for the first time, and I was just hooked. It reminded me of Power Rangers, which I of course loved (and still do love). My dad (his birthday is today, he would have been 62! RIP) told me it was made in Japan and I was like, "Whaaat? No way!" Haha. He was able to tell based just on the style of the animation...

I guess my father knew more about anime than I figured. ^_^

But yeah, even though I soon saw some DBZ episodes afterwards, and it may not have been my "real" first exposure to anime, I credit Sailor Moon as my gateway drug. It was certainly the first anime I had ever seen in Japanese, downloading .avi files back in like 1998 and reading EVERYTHING on the S.O.S. page (I didn't know any better!). Oh, memories...

Pokemon was my first, and I love it still, but Sailor Moon was my 2nd as a little toddler, even ^^ DBZ also aired when I was little but once I took a look at it I thought it was stupid and too boyish. Still think so to this day.

I watched the Polish lector version, cause I lived in my home country, Poland back then :) Then as a 7 year old I came across this Sailor Moon dress-up game. I didn't remember them, but I thought that they were pretty :) So I googled Sailor Moon and watched some of the dub. I thought that it was utter rubbish, but then I went on a random SM website that was on google and found out that the sub was a lot better, so I watched and loved it! :)

My current favourite anime, though, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, aired when I was a young teenager :o But I watched it on the internet instead of TV.

I remember my Sailor Moon R: The Movie VHS tape having a preview of Kimba. It looked so similar to The Lion King.

Yes it was.

I still remember how I accidentally discovered it too. I was watching tv (don't remember what I was watching though), and the first episode premiered after the show I was watching. I decided to watch it and was immediately hooked. It was so different from anything I had seen before, and I had just fell in love with it as I watched. I still remember the adrenaline rush I felt after watching "Serena" transform for the first time and then go to save her friend "Molly" too. After that I just kept up with the show, and I've been a fan ever since.

It was, but I initially wasn't all that taken because I got something of a headache when I watched it. I think it was because I wasn't used to the framerate.

My first animé was Starzinger, but I didn't know it was an animé until years later. However, Sailor Moon was the first series I knew as an animé from the very beginning.

Sailor Moon and Dragon ball. But I banished Db from my memories, as I thought and still think that it instigated childhood aggression in me. So while I hate Dball I can love sailor moon. Even then, I am by no means a fan of anime, as Dune, LoTR, Soviet sci-fi and traditional western fantasy ( M.A.G.U.S., Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance) had been the defining influences of my childhood (and that I hated pokemon and inuyasha because they REFUSED TO END, - so much for anime,)

if it does count then it's among my few first animes because I saw it not too long after discovering SM

I probably have seen some of the older anime series before SM, but never considered them to be anything "special". SM was the first anime I watched that I felt was a Japanese series (I was already interested in Japan and its culture back then), which is why I got addicted to it... after seeing one episode on TV, completely by chance - switched to the right channel at the right time. This was also the first time when I noticed something unusual about this kind of animation (it was low framerate... of course, I only figured this out years later). Additionally, that episode was somewhere in the middle of the "break-up" subplot of Sailor Moon R, so I probably kept watching just to see whether they'll resolve their issues and get together again. ^_^'
