I'm usually the first to defend Naoko, but if this is true... Girl, stick to coloring the manga instead of making the new English dub even WORSE.
Well, it is not a problem of the English dub only. If it is her demand why now?I think this has to do with Netflix, as we all know what they did with Evangelion, but who knows.

Ok. I watched every trailer in different languages.

Zirconia: Excellent in japanese, creepy! Pretty good in english, a bit stereotyped to my taste though. Good voice in german. In french the actress forced her voice through throat, it's okay. In brazilian it's good. Pretty good in EU spanish and italian. The latin spanish voice is younger than it's supposed to be and don't fit the character well.

Mamoru: In japanese... one word: HOT!! It's fine in english. He sounds attractive in german. His voice in french is excellent! It's okay in brazilian. Very macho in EU spanish and he's so sweet in italian. Loved him. In latin spanish he sounds a bit old? Like a gentleman of those mexican soap operas.

Helios: Excellent in japanese, just like his 90's seiyuu. English, very good. Wow, his voice in german sounds powerful. Good and sexy in french. In brazilian... well, he sounds too mature, I think I don't like it. In EU spanish it's okay, I found it a bit like the voice of a priest. Well, Helios is a priest, so anyway. Good in italian. And very sweet in latin spanish.

Rei: Good in japanese, she sounds mysterious. In english her voice is generic, it's okay. In comparison to the rest of the dubs, german Rei's got a personality in her voice. Good. Good in french as well. I don't like her voice in brazilian, don't know why. Weird voice, really. In EU spanish, italian and Latin spanish, it's fine. No complaints.

Male voice (Hawk's Eye??): I like it in japanese. The voice is fine in english, german, french and brazilian. In EU spanish he doesn't sound so effeminate, not bad. I think the italian voice is old? In latin spanish his voice is too much high-pitched. This is the only voice (in the trailer) the japanese version beats the rest of the dubs.

Palla Palla: Really good in all languages.

Nehellenia: Good in japanese. I expected more of her to be honest. She's okay in english and german. Wow I love her voice in french, she's scary. In brazilian she sounds okay. Really good in EU spanish, very villainous. I love the colour the italian actress has in her voice. In latin spanish the voice is not bad but it lacks power.

Chibiusa: Excellent in japanese. Good in english. Adorable in german. I love her in french, I admit she sounds more like a teenager than a little girl but love it. Goodness!! In brazilian she is my mother in law !!!!! In EU spanish... not bad, I notice that it's a woman making a tone of a child. Italian... the same I said about the french one. Love it anyway. Good in latin spanish.

Original Sailor Saturn: Good in japanese. In english it's fine. In german she sounds interesting, not my favourite, but it's okay, very dark-ish, lugubrious. Excellent in french. Very good in brazilian. In EU spanish she has a deep voice but not old. Quite elegant. Very good in italian. It's fine in latin spanish, a good voice for Hotaru.

Cere Cere: Good in japanese. I love she has a very maniac tone. Love the english one, sounds bitchy. And the same I can say about the german version. In french... I don't know, don't like it. In brazilian it's okay. In EU spanish she sounds like a playful and mischievous little girl, very good. Excellent in italian, a bitchy little kid. It's good in latin spanish.

Usagi: In japanese... is what it is. Kotono IS Usagi. The english voice is fine. In german it's guttural and nasal at times, it's good but nobody can deny it has aged. The french one is excellent. I DO love the brazilian one. Excellent. In EU spanish I see the actress can change her tone easily, very mature in the serious speech and high pitched, teenager-like in her motto. Good. In italian her voice is mature, but not old, there's something I like very much about it. Good. In latinamerican spanish she sounds horrible. She's like my granny as I said and reminds me of a rubber duck horn.

For some reason I cannot find the European Spanish dub anywhere. From what I've heard, it is Japanese, German, French, English, Italian, Brazillian, Latin Spanish.

I listened to the trailer in Japanese, finally, there is no mistake in the French dubbing.

In Japanese, they say "Sailor Planet Power".
In French "Power of the Sailor planet" or "Pouvoir de la planète Sailor".

The word planet is singular, therefore logical that we do not find a plural form in French.

It's available on Youtube. Here:

And there might be more dubs Netflix hasn't shown yet in the trailers like European Portuguese, Chinese, Thai and Korean.

It sounds as retro and old as the Latim Spanish one. Usagi is a bit better, but overall for me these two dubs suffer from old, unfitting cast. I wonder if there will be a Russian dub in the end. I mean they have their own logo and all.

Why would Netflix ask for honorifics all of a sudden? They never cared about them, their international dubs of anime usually don't have them at all. What happened to Evangelion was Studio Khara's doing.

Both are voices from the R-Stars dub produced between 2000 and 2002. Rei's voice actress had originally played the role of Mama Ikuko in the 1996 dub of season 1, she already sounded old as Rei back then. Chibiusa sounded a bit tomboyish, because her voice actress has a deep voice and is usually cast as boys, like Naruto and kid Goku.

Time just made those voices more unfitting for these characters, and now both sound like old smokers. Let alone Luna and Artemis, they brought actors that are like 70 years old to voice them again. I'm really sad to say this, but I'm watching it with subtitles. Nostalgia apparently ruined this dub.

My question is a bit off-topic but what happened with the Evangelion's Netflix version ? I remember I heard they toned down Shinji / Kaworu's dialogues (and removed Fly me to the Moon ending) but what else is wrong with their translation besides that ?

Unrelated but the "Pouvoir de la planète sailor" in the french trailer is indeed a mistake. There are several sailors, there are several planets, therefore the translation should have been made to plural. A translation is supposed to mean something in the target language, not only grammatically, but also in the context of the material. There is no planet called sailor in real life, or in the story, it makes absolutely no sense for them to summon this.

Well there were a lot of really literal translations in the Eva dub. Also some stuff that were complete nonsense in English, like the third children.

A correct translation in French would have been “Pouvoir Planétaire Sailor/ Pouvoir Sailor Planétaire”. Planet here is an adjective and not a word.

So technically speaking the translation may be correct but “la planet sailor” doesn’t mean anything in French. That’s why most of other countries used planet as an adjective or put it in plural.

… another exemple

translating “Mercury star Power make up” would make no sense as Pouvoir de l’étoile de mercure (because it’s not a star) but should be translated as “Pouvoir stellaire de mercure”

In the French dub for Sailor Moon Crystal, they say "Pouvoir stellaire + planet name).
If we follow the logic of the transformations of season 1 and 2, they will say "Pouvoir planétaire + planet name".

Is the English cast pretty much the same for the Inners, Chibimoon, Tuxedo Mask, and the Outers?

Hmm maybe keep this one for discussions about all translated versions and various dubs, and the other one for the movie itself, what people thought about it, scenario screenplay music etc ?
This makes sense, but the thread title would have to be changed to reflect that more precisely - if no one objects, I'll go w/ this option & change the thread title a bit later. :)

[EDIT]
Takeuchi is acting like Mara, who's added a filter to this forum to replace every "." w/ "desu" in the past - both are :zoid:s. lol
To be precise, it was "desu.", instead of "desu". lol
