I finally finished Part 2 of Eternal after giving myself some free time one week after finishing Part. I must say Part 2 is definitely the better part because the story flows much better here (since it is the climax of the story). The Outer Senshi's henshins were great (Yay! We finally got a Saturn henshin!), World Shaking was magnificent! Dead Scream was ok but I felt like the close-up face felt a bit too derpy. I liked Neptune's attacks too.

Speaking about Neptune, is her hair consistently longer and shorter throughout the movie (not counting flashbacks)?

Overall, I do think Part 1 does the comedy parts really well (love Bunny Usagi) however the pacing isn't right for a movie while Part 2 has a story that flows more and feels more like an actual movie.

EDIT: I also enjoyed Part 2 being like an actual "manga to screen" adaptation too.
EDIT EDIT: Although the whole "PRINCE! PRINCESS!" thing did annoy me.

Nothing.

According to Helios, the Golden Crystal is supposed to be important and relevant but in the end is just an element to give Eternal Sailor Moon more power to kill Nehellenia. It's just another crystal like the Mercury's, Jupiter's, etc. Sloppy writing.

And Princess Lady Serenity is another intentional plot point with no resolution in the story like the castles, power guardians, the Sailor Quartet nature, and all those unexplained things that everyone loves because is brilliant and beautiful aesthetically.

I always like to think that Princess Lady Serenity entered in contact with Helios when Nehelenia started attacking Elysion because she remembered when she helped him in the past. Meaning that after Eternal, Helios would travel to the future to be with her. A moonie can dream :mischief:

I might bring upon myself Hotaru and Chibi Usa shippers, but manga-wise Helios and Chibi Usa are endgame.

Aesthetics is always of paramount importance in Sailor Moon & Takeuchi's mind when she was conceiving the story - create something cool 1st (names, designs, plot elements, etc.), then develop the narratives to explain it or not at all.

While SuperS was very heavily criticized, if we remove those fillers and combine the main plotline, it would be much better than this movie's plot.
Well, in SME we don't have to take up to half of the episode just to realize there are spider webs covering the city (the end of SuperS), or creepy shadow in mirrors (Stars). The way they bought time in the old anime is just... unbearable. They had to spend 10 minutes just to say something that could be explained in 30 seconds.

While I love the 90’s anime and would defend it to the end.. the Dream arc is superior. Is some of the filler in SS good? Yeah. The double date episode for Minako is one of the best fillers in the franchise! Do I like Fish Eye’s redemption episode? Yes. Other than that, though? It’s a big fat no. Literally 80% of it is useless time wasting fluff. I wouldn’t mind it if it was fluff that acted as development for the main cast but it was literally just VoTD after VoTD. And even then, with so much filler, they decide to combine Jupiter and Venus’ power up episode into one? Make it make sense.

Eternal suffers from the opposite problem where there’s too much development stuffed into a very small amount of time ..but at least it’s pretty exciting (though flawed.) I’d rather take that than hours upon hours of nothing.

I would say the Nehelenia arc of Stars was really well done, though. I think the finale of that arc was better and more emotional than Eternal’s/ the manga’s ending to that arc. With all the Senshi joining hands together to make her see the error of her ways? One of the only times in the 90’s anime that all the Senshi truly feel like a united team.

I like that as well, although I am disappointed that they scrapped the Eternal Upgrades for the rest of the Senshi in Neherenia Arc.

The remake is somewhat a blessing because we can see the Eternal upgrades that were scrapped in the 90s anime.
