Nope, Jadeite along with some of the Witches 5 are the few villains who remain flat in both anime and manga.

In fact I would say he’s even worse in the manga, at least the the 90’s anime gave him all those meme-worthy start-up business schemes and hinted at a history between him and Thetis at the end there (while also simultaneously revealing him to be a raging misogynist…? Okay…) Manga Jadeite has absolutely no characterization at all.

Funny because the anime Black Moon Clan are often cited as some of the best and most memorable villainous groups, and to me they were definitely the best part of the second half of R. Only Rubeus was the real weak link out of them.

Esmeraude was good, she just needed a better ending.

Well get ready for all that to be gone and for her to be be turned into some generic, Mary-Sue, Christ figure plot device. :P

She’s not evil at all, just possessed, like anime Tomoe.

It’s because they’re meant to be a parallel and the Inners version of Uranus/Neptune, which is made all the more apparent in PGSM where they replace them as a ship. :)

I’m personally fine with it because they’re consenting adults, and since they’re the same sex can’t reproduce in the first place which takes care of the problem that makes incest so bad in the first place.

That plus it was never actually

No the memory wipe was done because SM was initially planned for only one season and they weren’t sure it would be greenlit for more so they needed to find a good way to put a final cap on everything.

Looking at in a vacuum without the other seasons attached it was a brilliant writing choice, and the ending to Classic is the most memorable finale out of all 5 seasons that actually feels like a finale.

And that’s a good thing as opposed to their completely non-characters in the manga.
Man I was hoping for a better jadaite, the fact he worse in the manga means there is little to like about him. However the fashion stuff he did was neat so there is that. I liked the other four generals, I guess this one was not meant to be.

One thing I will agree on is the black moon clan while underwhelming was still good, I think rubeus hurt it and the esmeraude ending hurt it fas good as it could have. I prefer it to the breakup arc or chibiusa being into her future dad, just all that can burn in a fire. The former destroyed mamarou’s character.

I agree Esmeraude was great, I
if had a better ending it would have helped the arc. The four specter sisters were great to. I did not mind them having a happy ending. Love the petz/sapphire tragic romance that was great.

The ending to it was good, between death phantom, Demande and sapphire, really good stuff, one thing about the three arcs in the anime I have seen they have great endings. Opposite of a lot yu yu hakusho arcs with the expection of the saint beast and togorou.

Wow that is going to suck she is going from the most evil person in universe to a Mary Sue Christ type who is not as good even before she turns good. If they were going to turn her good, she should have died from restoring everyone to life. I will still watch it despite it all. Lol

Yeah they make her actually good and is only bad because she is possessed by chaos. I sounds like a bit pull to me. Lfamo Crystal will fix it I think, so we will get an animated version that does her justice.

Seeing as sapphire and demande are adults and cannot make kids then it a lot better. Also yes the worst part of it is making kids and two guys cannot do that. Still not going to ever do incest in any story I do ever. I am glad it went nowhere in the manga

If I could I would zero doubt replaced the chibiusa crush of her dad with a classmate of usagi’s having a crush on her mom or something, something controversial but not as bad. Hell chibiusa jealous of naru with umino would have been better or a crush on motoki.

Why were some changes to the 90s anime made?
There are many reasons for them to do so.

- Maybe, TV Asahi didn't want to air the typical shoujo because wanted to appeal to a broader audience, not only little girls.
Sailor Moon was to be a prime time show many adults (especially men) loved to watch after work, the same way they (a lot of them married) love to go and watch performances of idols. Yes, westerners, particularly americans, will find it creepy but it's what is known as the japanese idol culture. The senshis were like innocent and angelical figures for them to praise, something divine... sorry, but I can't find another word to express it. It's one of those cultural things of Japan.
If they just wanted to appeal to children, Sailor Moon would've had another schedule, Sunday mornings for instance.

- Other reason might be toys. If Bandai wanted profits Toei had to use the other girls to tell other stories and dramas and be fun, not only Usagi. The trio Usagi-Ami-Manga Rei would've been a drag... In the animation is essential the energy and colourful personalities.

- The adult audience needed characters to be related with as well. The villains filled that need. Many of the villains fought to keep their 'job' in the evil 'organisation' they belonged. That is an important part of the japanese society.

- Maybe, TV Asahi, Bandai and other sponsors didn't want the violence the manga had. Many of the shows TV Asahi has aired were lighthearted. I don't understand what the problem is with lighthearted shows.... a darker version of Sailor Moon wouldn't have been better. Japan has always had a high rate of suicide, so the princess stabbing the sword would've been impossible.

- We all have seen that Sailor Moon is great when is balanced, and a complete failure when it's unbalanced. SuperS or Crystal are some examples... Would it have been a success only with all the romance and drama featured in the manga?

- The language Naoko used in the manga couldn't be applied to an animated adaptation if they wanted to attract a wider audience. In Japan men avoid shoujo, in particular in the 90s. Naoko used to handle poetry in the way some characters moved or experienced events, or in some resolutions, and even the nature of the characters themselves that was overlooked by the little girls back then. Even Ikuhara couldn't get carried away with his metaphors.

There will be more reasons I'm leaving out...

Junichi Sato said 90's anime turned into comedies more than manga because of 1991's anime called "Goldfish Warning! which was made by the same staff and aired just before the 90's anime. It was a comedy anime and was very popular at the time. (According to his interview).
90s Rei resembles this anime's deuteragonist called Chitose Fujinomiya. This character is a mean girl a bit but a good person, who has close relationship with protagonist.

Her love interest is a glasses man. she also had liked masked men with rose who is her ex-boyfriend left her. (Sorry for the colossal mistake)
I need to watch this anime.

.
Most of the Authors who do Shoujo outside of Romance and LGBT left and became Shonen or Seinen Authors an example of that is Yuu Watase, Fuyumi Souryou, and CLAMP.

Quick reason: It mostly due to airing standards not making it extremely inappropriate, sometimes it may comes from budget. Anime has to cut some Manga scenes off to fit the airing standards or they don't have enough resources to air it. This question is also can be answer for the question: Why Yugioh Manga and Anime looks different
Here are some differences from Yugioh Manga and Anime:
-Bakura killed Pegasus by ripping off the Millennium Eye, but in Anime Pegasus still alive
-Pegasus killed Bandit Keith by making his hand become a revolver and shoot himself, in Anime he just only been thrown to the sea and saved by Marik gang aka Ghouls
-Mai vs Marik, if a monster gets destroyed the player took real pain but in Anime they only loses one of their friends in their memory. Also when Mai is punished by Marik she has her flesh bitten by Marik bugs but in Anime if the sand fills her she dies gradually
-The whole season 0 was banned (not about card games and it also has some differences between Manga and Anime) and the Anime adapted isn't like a sequel to the season 0 Anime compared to Manga
-Bakura killed Bonz by ripping his soul with Millennium ring, but in Anime Bonz maybe alive even after being sent to darkness by losing Bakura
-Bakura standed on Atem's father death body but in Anime he just stand on the coffin.

For a quick reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/yugioh/comments/g2n9t3
I want to into further detail on another part of the forum because the yugioh manga is nuts.

All am saying is both Bandit Keith’s times manga Galaxia.

I wonder how popular Sailor Moon would be today if it 3nded at episode 46?
Good question, that would have been a kick but way to end the series. I mean that was so dang good.

However I am glad they continued it, wish they kept other sailor scouts memories erased longer though, maybe until the black moon clan. Wish they also ended with a better ending for the anime. Maybe they could have delayed stars timeline and had it happen when they were seniors and about to graduate and go their separate ways.

Demographics sometimes don't make sense. For example, K-On and Crayon Shin Chan rated seinen wtf (Check Wikipedia). One Punch Man is rated Seinen and R-15 in TV but I literally don't see a single brutal or society problems or Psychology in OPM instead it's a generic Shonen comedy. AOT is Shonen manga while TV rating is R-15 (aka Seinen) and the Manga also doesn't feel Shonen, Death Note also the same case.

Shonen/josei/seinen/shoujo are demographics not genres. “ brutal society problems or psychology” is not required to be seinen.
Also one punch man does have some mature jokes in it.The demographics in Japan demographics not ratings.
Anyway I have watch gold fish wastch.

The anime art style is similar to sailor moon.So is the comedy style .Some of the characters are short and chibi.

Anime and Manga intended for Anime fans themselves are also generally labeled as Seinen while anime intended for Fujoshi are generally labeled as Josei.

Demographics are not ratings, there just who they are gear towards.
I did not mean to say ratings, I am trying to say that the animes/manga that are geared towards the anime/manga fans, in general, are labeled as Seinen an example of those are those serialized in Newtype, and those Manga geared towards Yaoi fans are generally classified as Josei.

I think it would still be pretty popular.
I say that as someone living in Brazil, where Classic was the only season shown on broadcast television and R-Stars aired on Cartoon Network years later, in a time where only middle-class and rich brazilians had access to pay TV.
So, season one was pretty much the only season a lot of people in my country caught on TV, and still, the series has a pretty good following (not comparable to the rest of Latin America, but still).
But it probably wouldn't have the appeal among LGBTQ people it has nowadays, since HaruMichi was introduced later in the series and they made Zoisite and Kunzite, the only LGBT characters in season 1, a "straight couple" by turning Zoisite into a woman in most countries.

Well people now still call Shonen action like a genre.
Again demographics is still not make sense sometimes about some of anime i mentioned before like AOT, Death Note, Chainsaw Man, three of the Manga i mentioned has a Shonen Demographics but you know how not Shonen the three I mentioned are.

When they don't gear for new fans to come in when they have a sequel or a remake it, they classify it as Seinen/Josei as well in the case of Sailor Moon Crystal, in the case of CCS Clear Card they made it Shoujo (or Shounen) so that it would attract new fans.

Thank you. Bakura was a pychopath to, I mean what he did to the pharaoh’s dad and killed Pegasus and bones.

I did not know about marik having different cards. Also what he did mai having her eaten by bugs. Still the sand and memories thing was brutal as well. As well as suffering the damage of her monsters before hand.

Honestly I think marik without cards is deadly as hell, considering the power he has, he could take on the sailor guardians without a doubt.

In the anime when he steals a pure heart crystal he would probably kill the people he takes it from when founds out it not a talisman.
