Does anyone else think Hotaru was legitimately rude to Kaori?

I mean, we know she's a villain, but at the point where Hotaru snaps at her she didn't and Kaori was-seemingly-trying to help. It was pretty bratty of her to yell at her, though even she admits she was losing control of her emotions and she doesn't want Kaori to take her mom's place and I swear I'd watch an entire season of the Sailor Guardian's domestic dramas.

Also, Kaori looked like she was genuinely smiling after Hotaru runs off so...she likes to see preteen girls cry? Fitting for her.

One might think that due to the way Kaori(-Nite) meddles with :hotaru:'s Life and Privacy as if she actually ever could even just think about becoming some kind of Surrogate for her late Mother the latter'd have every right to at least complain a little. But keep in mind that in Mainstream Japanese (and possibly in other Asian Countries as well?) Culture it is basically seen as really rude and unforgivable to disobey and/or yell at your Elder/Parent/Teacher/Guardian/Sensei/Sempai etc. no matter the Cirumstances... ;)

Hotaru might consider Kaori as just a subordinate - hence kinda like a "servant" - of her dad in his workplace, therefore, being the daughter of Kaori's boss/"master," Hotaru could consider herself as the "young mistress" of Kaori & the latter as a "servant" of her, too - this kind of thinking/logic isn't uncommon in traditional East Asian culture, especially if the father is socioeconomically a rich or powerful figure. :)

I think the way Kaori *was* behaving in a bit of a caretaker role could make Hotaru snap as she doesn't want anyone replacing her mom.

She could probably sense Kaori was evil or at least that there was something off about her, she is Sailor Saturn after all so she's gotta have a bit of a sixth sense.

From Hotaru's point of view, it probably looks like Kaori is manipulating her father and she's definitely spending more time with him.
She probably sees her as a wicked stepmother type who has forced her way in and trying to control the family.
On top of that, Hotaru is under a ton of stress, and even had Kaori had good intentions, it's possible she would have snapped.

So, yes, it could be seen as rude, but it could be justified or excused, depending on the situation.

Those are both quite likely. And Hotaru was under a lot of stress. Kaori's weird seductive voice routine didn't help matters.

Well, by "jealousy in competing for her dad" I didn't mean the romantic/sexual one, but simply the competition for affection & attention from her dad. :wink:

I think that's more envy, not jealousy. I doubt it's that though, I'm going with my original theory that she was able to sense that Kaori was bad all along, besides didn't she literally harass her in the 90's anime anyways?

Note that my comment about her in that post doesn't preclude what you suggests in the above quote - there can be multiple factors working simultaneously. :wink:

In that S episode where that sportsplayer Hotaru liked got targeted, it was pretty clear Hotaru saw Kaori as a subordinate. She said something in the lines of "I already told you not to enter my room without permisson." You don't say that to anyone unless you think you have some kind of authority.

Rewatching Crystal S3, I noticed she was a lot more bratty to Kaori in Naoko's original concept. Even though Kaori didn't like her, she didn't actively harass her as in the original anime and Hotaru's behaviour towards her seems less justifiable.
