Don’t forget all the incest in Sailor Moon - Ail/En, Demande/Saphir and Mamoru/Chibi-Usa too! (Though admittedly that last one is more from Naoko’s side of things than Ikuhara lol)
It’s hard to rate them exactly but I do think the Manga and PGSM generally do better with feminism than the 90’s anime does, but not for the reasons one might think.
I’ll just say that in this matter I completely agree with @MariaTenebre on the notion that fanservice and sexy women is somehow...
Usagi, because I too am a lazy ass scaredy-cat who’d like nothing more than to lounge around eating and sleeping all day while playing video games/reading manga/browsing the net lol.
This is true in all 3 major versions of Sailor Moon: The 90’s anime, manga and PGSM.
As we can see the theme of loneliness is the main problem afflicting Galaxia in both the manga and 90’s anime (In the 90’s anime she decides to shoulder the burden of Chaos alone rather than reach out for help)...
Is it still overhated? I know it used to be in the past before we got the Viz redub, but since then after how underwhelming and copystrike-right heavy Viz has been I’ve only seen lots of nostalgic love for the old dub.
I do agree it was definitely overhated in the past though, it was actually...
Mamoru’s ugly green jacket and purple pleated pants! :P
Actually this thread is worthy of being dedicated to just Mamoru, the walking fashion disaster.
Chibi-Usa and Mamoru, they’re really not that bad characters. Underwhelming and annoying in the 90’s anime yes but the way some fans talk about them you’d think they murdered their puppies or something lol.
Also SuperS as a season of course, it’s one of the weaker ones but still vastly superior...
I feel sorry for Manga Beryl basically for the same reasons Nadia said here:
Coincidentally, Manga Beryl’s character is also kinda like what happens to Mamoru in the 90’s anime and is one of the main reasons I always felt his character was wasted potential - you could do so much with this sort...
It doesn’t, the 90’s anime straight up has Fish-Eye express disgust at women, he’s full on Kinsey 6 gay. (Now Zoisite on the other hand… Apparently one of the Drama CDs actually mentions him having dated women in the past?)
And in the manga Fish is likely trans.
Well, it’s not just Haruka but also her little “thing” with Ami (which is more-so from Ami’s side rather than Mako’s but I digress), really though the only substantial evidence she does have to being bi is that Haruka episode. I’m not 100% certain if that whole “just looks up to Haruka as a role...
90’s anime no idea, but if we go by Manga canon where Saturn drops the glaive and resets history I always theorized the Silver Millennium/Golden Kingdom Age taking place even before prehistoric times.
