I wish we had more insight to these characters. They are well design. But they don’t have enough backstory revealed.

I didn’t realized they guard a physical place, Desert River of Oblivion And Desert River of Memory. Did Galaxia have gave them this duty when they gave up on their home world from surrendering to Galaxia? Or it was perhaps they found their true intentions upon surrendering? Am I having it all wrong?? Lol

They’re honestly some of my fave villains Naoko has ever created. Naoko isn’t generally known for her great villains and usually makes flat ones, but characters like Lethe & Mnemosyne (along with Beryl, Galaxia & Kaitou Ace) she hit out of the damn park!

Despite having so little screentime, there was so much characterization and implied backstory packed into those scant few panels to make them memorable that few villains in the manga ever achieve.

I’m pretty sure that was their original duties all along just Galaxia forced them to use their powers for evil.

Well, it was also too easy that Lethe & Mnemosyne stood out among the rest considering the villains Naoko used to write... It it were the other way around, Lethe & Mnemosyne would be deemed as flat as a pancake.

I see it as Orpheus (Usagi) descending to the Hades to rescue the loved ones, having to cross the Lethe river to get to Hades palace (Galactica Palace). You know... greek mythology reasons.

I tend to think Lethe and Mnemosyne were created to humanize Galaxia, I think they were created once Takeuchi changed her mind regarding Galaxia's backstory.

Makes more perfect sense. I actually felt some of the panels felt like a greek mythology story.
