Anyone else did not like Uranus,and Neptune in the 90 s anime

Regardless if their betrayel was planned or not. They were up against a threat that had literally extinguished the entire galaxy save for the Earth. We’re talking about an antagonist who, after she’s bored toying with her prey, can extinguish them in literal seconds by a flick of her bracelet... Was it morally reprehensible to extinguish Pluto and Saturn’s lives? Sure. Did it make sense based on what the characters knew at the time and the seemingly unsurmountable odds they faces? I’d say yes.

Well I imagine they all would have died no matter what because they didn't have a chance against Galaxia but I guess it bought them like a few more minutes so they could have a beautiful romantic over dramatic death. Letting your friends and comrades die thinking you betrayed them was worth it? If it was that hopeless it might have been better making sure Saturn lived so she blow everyone up so they could be reborn again at least.

I liked them, they were badass. I’m guessing in current times, looking back at them they don’t look favorable but back then they kicked ass.

Their plan was that if they get Galaxia's Star Seed though they could bring back Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn and all the other Senshi whose Star Seed Sailor Galaxia. Stole I also always thought that Sailor Pluto and Sailor Saturn were in on the plan.

They still sacrifice them without their permission.

Even with permission and if Pluto & Saturn were willing to let them get themselves killed, Uranus and Neptune were still pretty nasty to Moon and the Starlights.

It's weird to me how it seems almost like the public opinion of Uranus and Neptune has changed over the years. I remember back in the 90's and early 00's, it seemed like they were two of the most popular senshi. Whereas nowadays, it seems like I encounter more people that dislike them due to their abrasive attitudes and fighting style. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions of course, but it almost makes me sad to see people hate on Haruka and Michiru because I adore them so much. Haruka and Michiru are actually my favorite thing about Sailor Moon, even though I actually love the whole series.

I also don't think of them as spoiled at all... I mean, yes, they are rich, but I like to think that they earned their money and status. Which is entirely possible when you consider that they're a world-famous race car driver and violinist. Plus, their parents are never even referred to, so we don't know if they even inherited money from them or not.

Also, I want to mention something that was referred to previously in this thread... I actually don't think I realized this watching Sailor Moon in the past, but when I re-watched Stars previously, something dawned on me... Their plan to save the world by joining forces with Galaxia and then turning the tables on her seemed noble and ingenous at first, but here's the thing... It was shown previously that anyone with the bracelets has to give up their Star Steeds, and IIRC Uranus and Neptune gave up their own Star Seeds to get the bracelets, and of course they knew Galaxia had the bracelets....... so basically what I'm getting at, Uranus and Neptune are pretty smart... what makes them think that Galaxia had a Star Seed? I really hate that I realized that, because while the episodes are still affecting, now I can never watch them again without thinking about that the whole time. >_<

ETA: One last thing I wanted to add... (sorry this post is getting long, hehe) is that I actually prefer Haruka and Michiru in the original 90's anime to their manga or Crystal counterparts. Don't get me wrong, I still like them in the manga and Crystal, but 1. I feel they were more developed in the anime and 2. I never did like how Haruka cheated on Michiru with Usagi in the manga. In the 90's anime, Haruka likes to flirt, but you get the sense that she'd never actually physically cheat on Michiru, yet she does so in the manga.

Also I agree EphermeralMelody they are one of my favorites as well and made S the amazing season it was, Also when it comes to Sailor Galaxia just because she had golden bracelets dosen't necessarily mean she didn't have a Star Seed. Her Golden Bracelets are a part of her own power and maybe the Outers thought that she still had her Star Seed but was taking others.

However back to Haruka and Michiru I love them alot I love their elegance, suaveness, strong wills and willingness to do what it takes to save the world and in many ways I was on their side in S.

Also I agree I prefer them in the 90s anime and I hate how they had that Haruka cheated on Michiru with Usagi in the manga that was pathetic and they were just used to big up Usagi and Mamoru's relationship.

You do realize that good actors can make betrayal look genuine. The biggest proof was that they didn't have any beef with Haruka and Michiru afterwards besides this is not the first time that the Senshi have tried to pull a fast one on the villains.

Also Haruka and Michiru in the manga were simply like so many of the other characters just used as accessories to boost Usagi and Mamoru's relationship. Instead of giving us say some romantic moments with the two we basically got Haruka cheating on Michiru by kissing Usagi it was pathetic.

That's was the end of the series. They also everyone look hapt at the Usagi angle scene. as for manga/crystal the kiss and flirt with Usagi/chiba wasn't a threat to their own relationship as they weren't doing it to date with either in a deep level maybe there was an attraction sure on both sides but I doubt haruka michiru would leave each other for Usagi/chiba
if anything both were playing the tease does it make it right? no but whatever nobody is perfect maybe they were testing their loyalty

I'm very glad that the Outer Senshi are there and I think it adds a powerful dynamic that the value/belief systems are so different between the Inner and Outer Senshi. In terms of how the Japanese 90's anime portrayed Haruka & Michiru it was accurate enough in spirit. I actually feel sorry for them because as they said everything they did as part of their mission to collect the talismans was an abysmal failure and ended up as a cruel joke. Ironically they were right that sacrifice must sometimes be necessary, because Sailor Saturn was forced to sacrifice herself to save the world.

However I do have a huge problem with the way the 90's censored them but I only really watch the Japanese version anyway so it doesn't get to me.

Loved Haruka and Mich, I'd ship them but they already shipped themselves.

well for me i like them with the diversity of thinking hey there is not only a one way to resolve a problem
but sometimes they acted so mean, unnecessary, well in some point they were like closed mind like the only solution is sacrificing someone, i know usagi acted dumb giving the chalice to mistress 9 but, if maybe they worked together maybe they come up with another solution not going the usagi way maybe a third way
in the manga counterpart they mature in that way, i know they were mean too at first whatever the reasons but they mature in that way and think working together was the best way
in the 90s they never believe in usagi, well some parts of the story in the 90s and the manga afected they character too

If Haruka and Michiru had succeeded, everyone would have been brought back to life. There’s no reason to be politically correct when literally everyone around you has been killed off and you have to save the world at all costs. I personally don’t think Pluto and Saturn were in on it, just to make it more believable for Galaxia.

Also, Uranus was willing to sacrifice herself to save the world. She literally shot herself once she found out she had a talisman in order yo save the world.

There are two big reasons for this change:

1. At the time, Uranus and Neptune were the cool, edgy characters who did what it took to get the job done. Back then, liking the not-so-nice guy was the thing to do.
2. Uranus and Neptune were a couple, which meant that not only were they LGBT representation which was not to be criticized, but by being lesbians, this made the series more "adult." (The series itself did the characters no favors by casting them in a "mature" light.) To older kids and college students watching this series, this gave an excuse to watch Sailor Moon and like the characters.

However, not only has the fan base grown up, there has been a cultural shift towards characters being genuinely supportive rather than being abrasive for dramatic potential, we can look at these characters as flawed and choose not to like them without being accused of homophobic or naive. With age, the halo effect has faded. Neptune and Uranus can be hated just like anyone else. That's progress.

I agree especially with regards to Haruka. As for the cheating thing, their relationship always seemed a little open to me anyway.

Yeah I don't like Haruka and Michiru in the 90s anime being assholes to the Inner Guardians, they don't give a [BLEEP] if anything bad happens to them even them geting hurt or them dieing, to hell with them. The manga/Sailor Moon Crystal did them better.

Also screw censorship, Sailor Moon is no stranger to bad words in the franchise. Sailor Moon is not meant for kids.
