I didn't like them in the 90s anime. They were unnecesarry jerks. The point of no return for me was in episode 91 when they abandoned the Inners to fight for their lives.

As a HUGE fan or Michiru, yeah they were too headstrong and refused to work with others. At the same time they actually got little info.

I prefer the anime versions.
When I was in my teens, somehow I thought manga UraNep were superior and better people, but...no.

Uranus forces a mouth kiss on Usagi just to mess with her. Then proceeds to stalk her and get in her head.
Both attack the inners for no reason during the Mimette fight.
Don't get me wrong, this was kind of interesting during those chapters because...oh my...are they allies? Enemies?

But then, in typical manga fashion, it amounts to NOTHING. Same as the Uranus is a Tuxedo Mask panel.
After these first couple of chapters full of intrigue, UraNep just become simping toadies who scream "Purincessu" every few panels. Same as the rest.

Anime UraNep do make some questionable and stupid moves, but we get to see their conversations, the motives make somewhat more sense and while yes, they can be very rude and antagonistic, they seem like actual characters. By the end of infinity they don't really stand out, whereas in the anime, they are still their own thing. Even into Stars.
Speaking of Stars, the first part of the manga makes them more relatable but then...oh well. Back to the usual. Not enough chapters for so many characters.

The manga characters only seem less 2-dimensional because we fill in the blanks with our imagination. It's okay to enjoy that, I did as a kid...but it by no means makes them written better.

Plus, as a side note, anime UraNep get this:

Crystal UraNep get whatever this is:
It's pretty... but the most generic piece of music in Crystal. It definitely doesn't suit them or that scene. It's no wonder every video you find of that scene has the music replaced with the 90s theme. What were they thinking?

Asuka was just a broken young soul, IMO.

Not really tsundere, not really bitch.
Fair enough.

Don't know about cartoon in spoiler tags
I wanted to find a good short video that showed what I mean, but they're all too long or don't show enough.

Helga G Pataki is a girl from Hey Arnold. She frequently rude, impatient or a bit of a bully towards just about everyone but especially Arnold. the thing is she has a MASSIVE crush/obsession with Arnold [writing several poems about her love for him, building many shrines of him out of whatever she can find, rudeness towards girls who he shows interest in, etc.] She hides it from everyone. She acts especially nasty towards him if he or anyone suspects/notices her crush on him to throw them off.

HE MAKES HER "GIRLHOOD TREMBLE!" HER SENSES ALL GO WACKY! :wry:

Anyways I like Uranus and Neptune in the 90s anime.

But..... were they a couple in the manga??? :wow: I mean.... we know they're a couple because of the original anime, but I must say Goddess of goddesses Naoko-Hime-sama had to claim in a 90's interview they were a couple because their relationship in the manga is confusing. Seriously, we don't have any clue of their affection in the manga beyond comments from tertiary characters saying they're lovers.

Takeuchi in the ‘90s, storming down to her dungeon to prep for an interview after finding out Toei went ahead and confirmed Haruka and Michiru are a couple:

I know the true story! :P

Haruka was just Takeuchi's wet dream of her being accosted by the hottest Takarazuka member alive!
Michiru was inspired by her real life rival whom Papa Takeuchi constantly compared her to.

"Naoko-chan, why can't you be like our next door neighbours', the Suzuki san's lovely daughter?
She's beautiful, lady-like, practices ikebana, speaks 5 languages and is soon gonna get her degree! She's sure to get a very lovely and wealthy husband! Why can't you bring honor to our family, Naoko-chan?!"

The intention was for lazy ass Usagi-Naoko insert with her pigtails in pajamas to be much more beautiful than Michiru, the perfect Japanese shoujo

We know Hime loves to recycle so she probably intended for Michiru to die, protecting Usagi and with her dying words saying,
"Oh Purincesu!!!! I never could compare to you! No matter how much I tried to comfort Haruka's pained heart, she only had eyes for you! I can die happy knowing you'll be by her side *sniff* *sniff*"

Dreams would have been lots and lots of scenes of Haruka flirting with Usagi, hugging her, kissing her, telling she's gonna eat her *miam! miam!*
Poor Usagi would have been sandwiched between Mamoru and Haruka.
So many lost pages of Usagi being frustrated that they are fighting over her!
There'd probably be mentions of 3P here and there.

Curse EVIL TROLLEI for ruining Hime's holy dream!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.

Uranep probably knew that , if they would have had helped the inners in that ep , sailor moon would have had never unlocked the cosmic transformation. All the persons need to pass through hard situations to be stronger , if we recieve help in everything , we will never be able to deal wwith problems for our own.

They seemed bad at first instance but actually they were doing a good for her , by teaching her to surprass her issues , Usagi got to show that she will never leave her friends and boyfriend alone in the battefield :usagi:::tuxspeedmask:.

Thats better than just waiting for another people to solve your problems.

Usagi – I get the feeling that they're good people.

This did not age well.

Yeah I don't like Haruka and Michiru in the 90s anime being assholes to the Inner Guardians, they don't give a [BLEEP] if anything bad happens to them even them geting hurt or them dieing, to hell with them. The manga/Sailor Moon Crystal did them better.

Also screw censorship, Sailor Moon is no stranger to bad words in the franchise. Sailor Moon is not meant for kids.
Haruka and Michiru did show concern if things happened to the Inners but were more concerned about their mission. They were even willing to sacrifice one another if it stopped the Death Busters and quite frankly with Usagi giving Mistress 9 the Grail I would argue they were right in their assumptions about the Inners.

They thought they were the only ones who knew what to do, but in truth they didn't know most of the key info and got little power.

They were arrogant, blindly follow each other and refused to listen to others. Unlike the Inners would discuss and listen. The writers didn't let the Inner Four get in, so Usagi would be tricked, to give Haruka and Michiru a stone to stand.

It also happened again in the end of STARS.

The question is what is better the manga's treatment of Stars' Haruka and Michiru or the anime treatment of Haruka and Michiru?
Manga didn't give them much characterization. While Michiru's goofy part in Cosmos was good and she was the focus.

Anime gave them interesting roles and characterization, but didn't let them further develop and admit their mistake. It's more like "they are popular and let's keep them there". And Michiru lack of independent plot, even manga did a bit better in Cosmos plot.

I do not agree.

First of all, they didn't know about the Cosmic transformation nor could they have, especially since that required Tuxedo Mask who wasn't present yet. They say 2 eps later they are starting to regain hazy memories of the past, so they never could have had this deep life knowledge of Usagi's powers that not even Luna had. Additionally, from their pov they didn't know the random blonde civilian was sailor moon at all.
