Blender Model WIPs + Sailor Moon: Another Story custom portraits (Sailor Animamates and Thetis) but mostly Naru stuff

Hey, sorry I haven't posted on the forums in like a thousand years, but I've been playing Another Story, and made this today and thought it might be neat to share: Another Story-style portraits for The Sailor Animamates (including Heavy Metal Papillon):

I also posted it on my deviantart page (which has some of my other Sailor Moon fanart, and a bunch of weird unrelated stuff).

Been socially withdrawn but still working away on my projects. I've been learning blender for the past couple of years and finally started trying to recreate the 90s anime style in cel shading. Here's some of my WIPs so far- I tried not to go too high poly (or too high res on the textures) so if you look close they can be a bit blocky, because I'm hoping they won't be too memory-consuming to run if I ever manage to make a game with them (as I hope to).

In addition to canonical details, I decided to get a little silly with something that was too small too see in the show, but I figured might fit the tone for a goof:

(The cats might need a few more poly count, they seem a bit too chunky to me. And I think the ears are too small? These are all ongoing WIPs though.)

Attempt at a location. Doesn't quite have that watercolor vibe of the anime I want to get across, but considering it's in 3D I think it's a start.

And then of course, there's my actual story plans, not just stuff directly from the anime...

Awesome looking 3D models, some of the expressions are on point, and even Umino's swirly glasses even make Naru look silly. but the gold is seeing them in the Dark Kingdom attire, it's looking pretty good.

Poor quality video showing some basic walk animations / 3D perspective. Sorry about the bad FPS / camerawork. The animations could also use some polish, but, proof of concept and all. Umino's walk cycle is crappy on purpose, I swear:

Also I definitely didn't go back and fix up Naru's walk cycle to fix her hand/skirt clip immediately after recording this, and then not rerecord it, because that would be silly.

So I know this has been done before by a lot of people (reminder that Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Earth is ongoing and is really good!), but, with my models I wanted to put a new spin on an old idea- Sailor Sun:

This is the same continuity as the Dark Princess Osakaite pictures, so that staff is actually the same staff of Osakaite's, which Beryl carries during the anime (Beryl has her own seperate staff with the pointy red thing at the tip, seen in one scene of the anime, and in the manga/other versions that don't have the crystal ball staff). Here, it's the uncorrupted version, the "Sun Stick". The colored orbs on the top of the little columns represent the planets, which are destroyed in the corrupt version of the staff (the columns get all shriveled and pointy).

Likewise, she's got black parts on the outfit because of Queen Metallia- but here it's "contained", rather than overflowing as with Dark Princess Osakaite. Her costume is inspired partly by Eternal Sailor Moon, but has little touches of Shitennou elements for good measure.

Helios is involved in unlocking this form, since he's partially a guardian of the sun, but more in the sense of Luna guarding moon powers, contrasted with Tuxedo Masks' whole earth thing being a bit more direct in this interpretation. Mostly, though, I figured the Sun made sense because of the Metallia stuff in this case.

Hopefully this all makes it into an actual game at some point, since I've been learning the Godot engine, but I guess we'll see.

Honestly if Naru was a Leo not a Capricorn I would have totally made her into Sailor Sun in my story. I did make her into Sailor Janus though!

Superb art pieces though! I especially love your 3D Renders. Honestly your renders are how I would love an ideal 3D Sailor Moon video game to be. Love the Another Story portraits too!

Bump though Thank you Mitsukara for showing that link to the Sailor Earth comic. I am glad the author is continuing it and I also love her redrawing of it. It seems really cool and I hope she will keep going with it!

it's all looking great, are you going for the entirety of Season 1's characters here in the modeling department?
(a question, if you somehow get to doing MOTDs, will there be two Morgas and Two DD Girl IIIs?)

I don't know if I'll make EVERY season 1 character- like every MOTD or every minor character- but I would like to do quite a lot of characters. I'm prioritizing ones I'm sure will be in my story like the Shitennou and the Inners and all that, and I'll probably also be making villains from other seasons first too (I want to make the Sailor Animamates and so on), but, I do in fact want to make the DD Girls and Morga eventually, and I'd certainly let you know!

Rather than more overviews of what the models look like, here's some art I've made with them by posing scenes and drawing on top. Some of these are for my main story plan, while others are for events like Rarepair Week and LGBTQ Week (or in some cases it's a bit of both).
