Been a while, so here's some new stuff!

Everyone knows Umino is a bit of a spy with his litle memo book, bt, Naru takes a lot more notes than Usagi realizes, too... and they share the notes <3

Metallic Sailor Sun (Osaka Naru)
Osaka Naru never gained this form until the 30th century, but, In her past life in the Golden Kingdom in the era of the Silver Milennium Moon Kingdom, she was "Princess Osakaite", Beryl's secret daughter. She regained that dark form in Crystal Tokyo, trying to revive the Shitennou before being drawn into battle against her estranged best friend Usagi.

She is directly linked to Queen Metallia, and never became Sailor Sun in her past life; to do so is apocalypse-adjacent, a little like the "Messiah of Silence" Sailor Saturn who has a connection with Pharaoh 90.In her past life, Osakaite willingly sealed up her powers (with the help of the Shitennou) in an attempt to prevent the destruction of SilMil and the Golden Kingdom; but she was killed by the DD Girls, and soon afterwards both kingdoms fell anyway.

The seal wasn't perfect, which is my headcanon for why she canonically glows red in episode 23 when protecting Nephrite from the moon tiara- her sealed powers are trying (and failing) to emerge...

In the 30th century she's finally able to become a Sailor Soldier for the first time with the help of Usagi and Helios (who guards a part of the sun's power in Elysion), and she acts as a counterpart with Eternal Sailor Moon!

Her costume parallels Eternal Sailor Moon's,, although the black parts represent the sealed Queen Metalia, and a balance between Cosmos and Chaos. She also has the same style of shoulder epaulets as the Golden Kingdom form of Sir Nephrite, and her collar and fuku resemble the piping of a Shitennou uniform, representing her connection between the Earth and the Moon.

However, she still looks up to Usagi, who is ultimately the main heroine of the setting- but the estranged friends are finally reunited as partners, working together to try to save the universe at the end of time.

She can use "Sun Orbital Attraction" to telekinetically pull or push things in a circle around her (turns out attracting monsters was an actual power all along ). This power may also work on the solar senshi for coordination maneuvers...?

Her staff is the same crystal ball staff Beryl used in the 90s anime (Beryl's own staff is the pointy one from the manga/crystal, and in one random scene of the anime), but in it's purified form it's revealed to be the "Sun Stick"!

With the Sun Stick she can use "Sun Healing Energization", which doesn't purify things like Sailor Moon, but can physically heal people by willingly giving them some of her own energy (which she also kinda halfway did in episode 19 by suddenly giving the surrpised "Tuxedo Nephrite" her energy).

By the way, there's also a beautiful and awesome webcomic being made by JKellicu on ComicFury about Naru becoming Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Earth. Although my approach is very different, I consider BSSE a major inspiration and I love it! If Naru-as-a-senshi stories interest you, hers is a must-read!:

I also went a liiiiiiiiiiiittle off the deep end the past few months and made a NSFW comic, for adults 18+ only, which I've posted it in it's entirety on my Archive Of Our Own page (and Newgrounds). I can't post that here, obviously, but, as it's very story-heavy and set in Crystal Tokyo era, there are some SFW pages that it's hopefully okay to share a sample of? But I'll remove this section if a staff member asks me to:

In that comic it's discussed that Naru secretly was a transgender woman all her life, but Umino and Nephrite (now living peacefully as a human, Masato Snajoin) are both understanding and supportive of her. The story is about them sharing a polyamorous relationship once they finally have a chance to settle down for a while...

I'm back and forth on it, but, if I keep the "secretly trans" backstory for my main SFW story project, then Naru might've thoguht it was impossible for her to be a "real" Sailor soldier before becoming Metallic Sailor Sun.... but Usagi is a real friend, and tells her she's just as much of a real girl as any of them ️‍⚧️ ✨

I know the trans HC stuff is a little out there and definitely not intended in Naru's case canonically (...not like the wacky Beryl connection was ever intended either though, right?...), but once I started thinking about it... well, being a transwoman myself, it speaks to me, so I might go with it?? We'll see But I'll understand if that's not a spin other people like as much.

Well in a "how does she get the powers" sense, I think part of it would be unsealing her connection with Queen Metallia, and part of it would be Helios (who also has a connection with the sun) and Usagi helping her activate it. (I also have some silly ideas about Umino's pure heart reflecting on Naru's dream mirror but we'll see if I include that part )

As far as the gender side of it, as a transgirl, that's simpler. She's a girl, so she can be a sailor senshi ✨ I'm going with the interpretation that the star seed reflects the true self of the person, whether the body does or not.

(Though there may also be a thing, kind of like the human Luna situation in the S movie / other versions of the Snow Kaguya story, where Usagi can help empower a physical transformation as well- I have some tentative ideas about Naru actually becoming a mother in the future too )

Speaking of this general concept though, I have another art piece. This would be in 1999, months before the Earth goes into Cold Sleep / all the Crystal Tokyo stuff begins to happen. (This is her starting HRT)

At first that is a concern, yeah, but, you know how the cats were able to retain human form for longer later on in the manga? (Until the animamates attacked the cats)

It's a little like that- as Usagi gets stronger, she can help maintain those forms more permanently. It's a sliding scale kind of thing of how permanent the forms are. In Naru's case this would be very late in the timeline and it can last for much longer periods of time than in the S movie.

They also have 30th century technology, and Ami (or perhaps that's Dr. Mizuno by this point in time) trying to pioneer new methods, so even though they are springboarding off an era of 1990s premarin and surgical techniques, they have a lot more options once they have some time to develop them. This is still a magic fantasy anime setting after all

Although, I don't think she'd have to be biologically changed to use her senshi form in any case. That's just her star seed being able to do that part- it'd be part of who she is, even if she's not "supposed" to be able to.

Yeah, I'd suppose 30th-century technology could allow people to change their custom-designed bodies like changing clothes. lol Moreover, she could also go the route of the Sailor Starlights' transformations in the 90s anime.

I honestly don't think it makes much sense for Naru to be "secretly trans all along" unless her mother had deep connection to forge her documents etc. I mean this is 90s Japan so I doubt that would fly. Plus Naru is shown having breasts so unless she is on HRT from season 1 onward it wouldn't make much sense.

Though admittedly I have been contemplating creating a transwoman Sailor Senshi for a while now. I am just thinking about how I would do it.

The basic idea I would have is that while they were born as a boy their true past life form was as a girl and when she awakens as a Sailor Senshi she gets a fully biological sex change in both Senshi and civilian forms. This is interesting because this in one hand is a dream come true as she becomes a fully fledged woman without the need for estrogen or surgeries but also now none of her previous family members or associates recognize her or believe she is who she was. Not that it is a loss to lose her family as they weren't supportive of her anyway and were very bigoted but now she must essentially start a new life in a new identity. I was thinking of having that the only one who would believe her in who she was in her past life would be her best friend who would be her main supporting character,

Are you able to animate them while changing expressions?
