Crystal didn’t work as Crystal, what makes people think that it would work as a Hollywood drama? Moreover, Naoko is very protective of her franchise and I think her views would clash with those of Hollywood.

You say that as Crystal failed or something, it's not the 90s series for sure but it could most definitely work in today's climate of shows and as a matter of fact Naoko's views would fit right in line with hollywood

It's more likely they would based it of the 90's anime rather then crystal given that the former is a lot more popular and better received than the latter.

Well I'd rather watch a Japanese live action with a decent budget for the visual effects.

Hollywood movie? Set in the US? Man, that would be a complete rewrite of the story unless Takeuchi sensei or Fumio Osano pull a complete JKRowling strategy... And I can see that happening
Personally I have no issue with the actor' skin colour, as long they cast someone who can act. I wonder tho how you can translate a character like Rei in a north american setting. :ninja:

What do you guy think?
I always think it is marginally sad whenever I hear very loud voices decrying adaptations or suggestions thereof as not being the thing they grew up with, as if it would harm them for others to see themselves represented in a narrative, as if a subtitled release or foreign language dub by merit of translation isn't an adaptation in itself. I think I've mentioned before that I'm not sure a Western production would be my cup of tea, but I certainly wouldn't begrudge it existing and reaching a new audience. For the most part, with a lot of the tropes of stories such as Sailor Moon, I tend to view them in the same way that I would view any kind of mythology, in that they are stories that can be told in a variety of different ways regardless of the author's intent and desire to maintain control, so even if I wouldn't watch something like this, I really wouldn't mind it being a thing, it wouldn't change what I already love—there are many Sailor Moon games which I know are dear to some people that I've never played and have no interest in playing, but I don't want these things to be taken away simply because they're not the medium in which I enjoy the story.

Having an adaptation like the one mentioned here, affording children the chance for them them to see themselves represented on screen, seeing Usagi as being black, or as trans*? No, I wouldn't have a problem with that at all.
