After noticing the thread title, I assumed it will be about website/software light/dark interface themes, and prepared to post my rants already. :grey:
You should have just ranted with no explanation. (I also wondered if this was what the post was about).

S seems to be an attempt to have both. lol
Yeah, I like having it all...lol. Good characters (Moon), bad characters (Death Busters) and gray characters (Uranus and Neptune.)
I like light and dark motives in a story, like old fairy tales...but even some of those were very gray and ambiguous.

PGSM also did it well, leaving plenty of gray areas. Beryl is a villain...but is she purely evil or is she doing what she has to do in order to thwart both Metalia and Serenity?
Meanwhile, Serenity might not be maliciously evil, but she's still major antagonist material. Yes, she has motives, but those motives are pretty much screw everyone besides me and Endymion, lol.

That makes it feel more reflective of the complexity in the real world, even tho many people, for w/e reasons/motives, love to depict the real world simply as binary/black-&-white. :)

Never mind, provided that there's camp and cheese. Sailor Moon = campy & cheesy.

@Rika-Chicchi I'm with you on this. It's important to know that the Characters in a story still need to eat, sleep, go to School & the Bathroom at the end of the day besides their masked (or not-so-masked in SM's case, of course) Vigilante Duties and aren't exactly inhumane, god-like icons.

Really, do people rather want to see even more of Son Goku & Friends screaming, beating the living HFIL (Spelling intentional!) out of each other and surpassing just another SSJ-Level-of-the-Day? I don't think so. Thanks, but no. DB Kai was so unnecessary and superfluous. And if I knew there was some new TV Hit series (Anime or whatever) to start which would reportedly be without any 'Breather Episodes' inbetween the Story Arcs, fat chance is nowadays that I wouldn't even consider watching it in the first place. Life's just too short and I have more than enough other issues to take care of.

That's why I also like Ojamajo Doremi, almost all of which episodes are fillers, & they aren't just for comedic purpose, but also have self-containing, meaningful themes by themselves. :)

Things some call “filler” in the 90’s anime (never really see people complain about PGSM’s filler) are the things that made characters more relatable plus had more realistic flaws to their characters. People like to complain about characters being ruined with the flaws, but it helps make the characters feel more natural/real.

Better than them feeling like they came straight from a fairytale. That’s not relatable and real at all. SM may have some fairy tale- like aspects in its storytelling, but that doesn’t mean every version of the character needs to emulate that.

Most of the 90’s “filler” (regarding the manga) didn’t feel like filler because it feels like characters are getting more human-like characterization that fits them or the situation they’re in. Some of the most memorable and iconic things of the SM franchise isn’t in the manga and would therefore be considered filler by the “not in the manga, so it’s filler” logic.

90’s is it’s own canon and own version of the story, so it wouldn’t be filler to itself. Same with PGSM. Same with Sera Myu. The narrative of it didn’t happen in the manga so it doesn’t count is pointless. Especially when some of these “filler” is mentioned in later seasons of the story.

I prefer dark, depressing, moody, messed up stories so give me that and make them all suffer!
That could easily be done if they'd just tweak the 1st season of the 90s anime a bit by either letting the Senshi die for good & not resurrecting them, or resurrecting them but letting them lose all their Senshi memories for good, i.e. no new seasons. lol (They wouldn't suffer at the end in either case, tho. XD )

Filler was never a problem till Naruto, One Piece and others like Bleach aired on TV in early 00's and their fandoms started to complain. The Sailor Moon fandom just parroted. Nowadays the new obsession is the canon.
