Do you think it was right to let Kotono Mitsuishi reprise Usagi?

Kotono Mitsuishi is my favorite VA for her Misato as my favorite anime character and Usagi.

I think she wasn't at the best age to voice her again and it would be nice to see a new face. But overall her performance was fine, especially in the 3rd arc.

You could tell her voice was rough when Crystal first started during season 1, but I think she’s definitely eased back into role at this point and she sounds perfectly fine. I’m glad they went with Kotono again; she IS Sailor Moon.
Yeah she did a great job, while I still prefer the Chinese VA Wang Xiaoyan's performance a bit more.

Her Misato has no contest, she is Misato.

I think she still sounds a little aged and forced for the role. Buuuut, her "ENDYMION!" in season 1 was excruciating. On-par with the "Crisis Make Up" from the 90s Pharaoh 90 fight, IMO. She may have a slightly older sounding voice than the rest of the cast, but she can certainly emote and act wonderfully.

I like to think her voice direction as Crystal Usagi is definitely different to 90's Usagi and that's why the voice sounded "older".

She was perfect in the 90`s and I think she is an insanely talented seiyuu.. However as has been mentioned her voice has aged a lot since the OG anime and.. I don't know, it sounds very shrill at times. I wonder if she changed her performace style in anyway in order to differenciate it to the 90's?

But for the people saying she is the only one who could play Usagi? Couldn't one make the same argument for all the other seiyuu who were replaced?

Absolutely agree. However, her super squeaky s01-2 voice sounds that like under incompetent directing, I think. They wanted her to make Sailor Moon sound "angsty" but still with her classic Sailor Moon voice - she literally sounded like an adult trying to impersonate a child. Season 3 onwards, she loosened up on this squeakiness and still sounded like Usagi.

Sure, but that can be said about every actor who voiced a character in the original anime. Just keeping Kotono is arbitrary and inconsistent. Either keep all of the voice actors of the main cast or replace all of them.
I think some of them did return, just voicing different roles.

I think the title of the thread is a little misleading to begin with. Whether or not she voiced the role isn't a matter of right or wrong, just preference.

I don't really have that much issue with her voice sounding different since the Usagi of Crysternal and the Usagi of the '90s anime are different characters...

What's more jarring is that it's clear that the others voice actors are not really contemporary to Kotono or really her peers in the same sense that the original voice actors for Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus were. It kind of exasperates the distance between Usagi and the Inners which was already a problem in the manga, but seemingly more apparent in Crysternal.

In that sense, I completley agree that they either should have kept as much of the original cast as possible or recast everyone. Or if they were going to recast everyone but Usagi, hire voice actors that are closer in age to Kotono so the age gap just doesn't feel as apparent.
